Rand Paul is an asshole.
For the uninformed this is the same guy who thought segregation should be legal.
Libertarianism wants small government. Of course they're going to sound "anti-establishment".
You're not understanding the point. Any thing can be "anti-establishment". Groups who established totalitarian regimes started as anti-establishment. And by nature of being anti-establishment, you aren't necessarily being in favor of "small government", it's just simply a tactic to tap into people who, for various reasons, are not content with the different system. He is slapping "libertarianism" on his views because his constituency don't like taxes and bureaucracy, and they think that view suits them. It doesn't. A good look at both Paul's views will reveal they both have some strict social stances and play to nationalist tendencies.

Guess it's subjective.

Guess it's subjective.
Just taking a few social stances off the top of my head for Rand Paul -Opposes abortion and wants the government to stop that. -Opposes same sex marriage -Wants the government to increase border security -Shields his hawkish self-defense policies with isolationism. Wants government to have a large role in those. Like his father he is warm to marijuana legalization and does not favor intervention in the war, as well as skepticism to the PATRIOT Act. However these things alone don't constitute one as a "libertarian". He takes some token positions on the overreach of the federal government, but so do other parts of the political spectrum. He's just preaching to the choir. Really it seems to him he's just wanting to downsize government in one area but leave the rest in tact. A real libertarian should downsize overreach from any portion of the government, not just in economic matters. That's not really libertarianism, especially if parts infringing on people living the way they want to due to a government force (be it federal or local, the latter Rand doesn't mind) imposing it.

He is pro-life, but wants it to be resolved by the states.
-Opposes same sex marriage
Same, with leaving it to the states.
-Wants the government to increase border security
Yes. Because it's one of the few things the federal government is for.
-Shields his hawkish self-defense policies with isolationism. Wants government to have a large role in those.
NOT isolationism. Noninterventionism. There's a difference.
-Wants the government to increase border security
Would it be better if every day citizens took it upon themselves to secure the boarder?

Give children citizenship, make their parents get a green card. It's not like most of them won't go give birth in a hospital, so it can't be that hard to check if the parents are citizens.

Ever noticed how America's economy sucks, and how unpopulated most of it is? Might be good for some international relations, global marketing, and expansion of populations, pretty damn nice to run a decent country. This might be a newsflash, but America was built by immigrants, and it was meant as a sanctum from opression and intollerance. I can see how that backfires now. I belive a common phrase is "Freedom isn't free.", some mistake that for an excuse for underaged people getting blown up by landmines, but this is a true example of it's context, and anyone who shuts it's borders, betraying what America stands for, should be the ones to be thrown out, not the people looking to participate. Some might use crime rates and wellfare as an excuse, but if you give someone a job and a home, they have no excuse to comitt crime, and they can make money on their own, thus rendering them another proud, grateful citizen of the United States. But hey, your method seems nice too, ask Cuba for guidelines...
