The oddity that it was listed for the Law school is the real kicker.
Why, that seems like pretty usual stuff for law students
This is pretty dangerous because it's reinforcing regressive behavior that law students should at that point be leaving behind. Nobody want's a a generation of lawyers who find solace in regressing back to child state. This can only do further harm.
Give me a break. It's not "regressing back to a child state" (this is fucking insane), they are stress reducing activities. Why the hell do you think these activities are given to children in the first place? Because they are fun, meditative, and promote self-expression. Not because ~it makes them more childlike~, that's absolutely bonkers.
Firstly, you're making it seem more benign than it is to support your bias. Secondly, yes, a presidential election should not be throwing law students into frenzied panic attacks that require such emotional regression. That would be my answer.
I mean, I wasn't trying to make it more benign and I'm not being biased: I was just asking WHY. I don't really care either way. Also, whether you like it or not, people get upset and uptight about politics, and it's easy to see why people would be scared after this election, no matter who won. It's not "emotional regression", it's just relaxation. I'm perfectly sure these students will be completely and utterly responsible on the job. But they also might need a way to relax after it. Is it really on us to judge them for playing with Play Doh when there are many other, much more harmful ways that people get their kicks today? It doesn't seem all that bad considering many people get addicted to drugs due to the stress of their life - much of which is outside their control.
normally these are activities for children because children have simplistic thought patterns and find great neural response to simplistic activities. Why the fuck would you give an activity to a child to make it 'more childlike'? that doesn't even make sense. The activities are considered childish as a result of what the activities are mean't to do for a child, not because somebody arbitrarily just thinks they are childish...
But many adult people also find these activities very relaxing and yet are still normal, healthy adults. I think you're getting too hung up on the associations we have with certain activities and who usually does them.

I only have this stance because i actively see law students in my place of work behaving like children. Turns out its fucking encouraged.

The most common stuff is literally because we can often just turn our brains off like many video games and TV
A lot of adult activities are pretty simplistic too though. The most common stuff is literally because we can often just turn our brains off like many video games and TV
I suppose it comes down to the type of skill set you choose to unconsciously hone. Even when our brains are shut off, whether it's a movie, video games, our brain is still taking in complicated information. In a movie, maybe your brain is learning/relearning social skills from the actors you're watching, or video games may be honing your reflexes. But coloring, playdoh, bubbles, are skill sets that do not apply in adulthood. Which is one of the factors why these activities tend to be left behind by the majority and assumed for children.

I can back this up myself, I make music using complicated processes, it's very therapeutic for me, however if i replaced my music making with playdoh or colouring i would not nearly be getting the required therapeutic qualities that I would otherwise. This isn't a one size fits all concept.
What a bunch of babies.

It's usually a bit like this [t]http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/adult-coloring-pages-elephant.jpg[/t][t]https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/bf/20/9e/bf209e442ec34b31820981056a0fc140.jpg[/t][t]http://www.everythingetsy.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/adult-coloring-pages-deer.jpg[/t] Like I really don't think they would be handing out pictures of winnie the pooh and red and yellow crayons lol.
this was sent to us the other day, it's almost comical
this was sent to us the other day, it's almost comical
Shit, by that descriptor I could be a prime suspect.
i can imagine playing with playdoh functions much like a stress relief ball as well my campus puts out shit to do during finals, board games, that sand building stuff (sorta like playdoh but also more like sand??) and other shit and it was a nice break from all the studying and shit (even if my friends and i used it while studying lmao). seriously, the only babies here are the ones that are complaining and think its dumb or childlike.
I think that the bigger point is that students are freaking out enough about an election that they need this therapy which is more embarassing than what is in the therapy itself
I think that the bigger point is that students are freaking out enough about an election that they need this therapy which is more embarassing than what is in the therapy itself
The stress caused by this crazy election cycle and the stress of law school is enough to cause a mental breakdown lmao
People freakout every election though, it's especially compounded that this will be the first election a lot of these people voted in and a very polarizing one at that also this time of year is right about when finals are beginning so yeah, throw that on top. Stress is usually created by a lot of things at once
Ok I don't think we need to start throwing in School exams to explain why people are emotionally distressed with the elections. Might aswell throw in those appointments we were all late too.
Get like 20 people together, go get some fuckin nachos and pretzels, spend a few hours bowling. Thats what i'd call a good evening.
dont forget shots, you cant have a good time bowling until someone gets too drunk to remember which way the ball goes and tosses it backwards my department did this after finals and the senior design projects were done, it was such a fucking amazing day even if i didnt personally drink, just bowling with friends for the last time having fun was so much better than the golf they usually did
Shit, by that descriptor I could be a prime suspect.
"Bad body odor, unkempt appearance, intoxicated with slurred speech". What a winner at life.
Stress-relief activities are cool and all but... This seems... a bit much.
Nah, This is grad-level american education in a nice tidy nutshell, generally happens when politics > real world application.
"Bad body odor, unkempt appearance, intoxicated with slurred speech". What a winner at life.
I also got one foot that is bigger than the other, continual bowel movements, and three nipples if that fancys you. :v:
I also got one foot that is bigger than the other, continual bowel movements, and three nipples if that fancys you. :v:
The three nipples balance it all out tbh. You've got it good in life.
The three nipples balance it all out tbh. You've got it good in life.
Now you understand why I voted for Trump.
youve gotta be kidding me. play-dough? at least offer kinetic sand or slime or something. whats tuition even paying for anymore?
"Bad body odor, unkempt appearance, intoxicated with slurred speech". What a winner at life.
Sounds like someone who hit the bars and was walking home drunk. Could be a number of reasons for that, kind of hard to assume with such ambiguous language.
what's wrong with you guys this sounds chill as fuck
Adult coloring is picking up big time. I know adults who do things like this and nobody cares. I don't really see a problem with an event like this especially if it's optional. [editline]14th November 2016[/editline]
This is pretty dangerous because it's reinforcing regressive behavior that law students should at that point be leaving behind. Nobody want's a a generation of lawyers who find solace in regressing back to child state. This can only do further harm.
Not sure I agree. I know adults who sometimes watch children's shows, engage in adult coloring, and other seemingly childish things like that. They also see mental health professionals who say these things are totally fine in moderation. Like, if all you're doing is watching kids shows and coloring you might have a problem but something like this every now and then is completely fine because you're still engaging in adult activities, like paying taxes and working and studying and going out. Shit, I watch children's shows. I've been watching the fuck out of Dragon Ball Z lately.
I can kind of understand wanting to engage in some kinda weird nostalgic happy-place nonsense like this after having your world shook up like this election seemed to do for a lot of people, but doing it in public sounds... Incredibly embarrassing, honestly.
It's because member berries don't exist in our world like they do in South Park.
