edit: I got my eyes on you Uber.
Do it then, rise up against it and together we can rule the forums.

Well I for one will not be going to Kos this year due to the massive influx of middle-class wastes of space.
Stop spreading your moderator propaganda

Sounds to me as though we have something in common! Rise up against this dictatorship and let everyone know your true powers.
But you said "imagine being so unsympathetic" when the only ones who you were sympathising with were those on vacation, over those with no home, few clothes and no food... Who's unsympathetic?
I'm not unsympathetic to them, I just disagree that we should be giving shit to the tourists.
I once posted a decent DailyMail article and got banned for it. Why is this any different because you're a mod?
pretty much lol
if mods had to follow rules half of them would be permad five times over
Wow, I was going to post this article but I was under the impression the DM was banworthy. Surprised to see a mod posting it.
Garbage journalism at its finest
They are that by definition. The Syrians landed in Cyprus from any boat they could when trying to cross the Mediterranean.
Recession-hit Greeks are donating what they can. One elderly man handed a breastfeeding mother in a headscarf 10 euros. ‘For the baby’, he said.
Gotta love how they frame the story in the stupidest most click-baity way possible.
Yes we shouldn't use DM as a source, but let's discuss the tone of the article. What would you do if you were there as a holidaymaker?
Then why did you put a sensationalist title on top of a shitty DM article? No one is actually talking about the crisis, or how it's impacted local trade, but just completely shitting on the holidaymakers. What do you even expect them to say when asked other than the refugees make them uncomfortable?

rate it 1 star on thomas cook
idk i normally see holidays as a way to experience another place and actually seeing what the crisis means first hand rather than removed from the situation then it should make you think, or at least learn something about human experiences other than your own.
But then again, my dad's gf worked for the red cross and the UN doing disaster relief so a lot of our holidays was planned around that. Either that or my dad is a massive tight git and just loved those post tsunami deals
if your'e going on a cheapish package deal, you aren't going somewhere to experience new stuff. Hell you aren't even middle class probably, but upper or lower working.
In a sense, those have a full right to complain. The problem is, that the news is trying to pen them complaining at someone else than who they are complaining at.
They're attacking the vacation sellers wanting a refund, because their holidays were not as promised. They aren't attacking those refugees themselves. Most of those people know they're probably in a very bad and shitty situation. That doesn't mean their holidays also weren't ruined and that the travel agency might not have to ante up.
The world isn't made of absolutes.

The goal of this thread was to get a discussion started about what people's thoughts were on encountering refugees while on holiday.
Bad Uber for using DM :v:

Half the mod team has been perma'd a few times, we get unbanned because we know about garry's secret midget porn addiction and threaten to tell everyone.

Oh shit...
Let's be honest here. People pretend to care about the refugees (looking at you facepunch) and you guys would be annoyed to if this situation occurs to yourselves. It's not like anyone here would spend their Greek holiday feeding refugees when they really want to just lay in the sun, admit it.

maybe i wouldn't be happy but to get actually upset with the refugees themselves requires a very special form of twat

The word boat people imo has a bad stigma attached to it and I don't think it's politically correct to use.

"Well, the word Negro just means black in Spanish, and they are black!"

Why shouldn't it have a bad stigma? It's people breaking the law to subvert the legal system in place since they feel that the refugee camps in Turkey aren't good enough for them.
What would you suggest to call illegal immigrants shoring up to countries in Boats if a phrase describing their actions is a slur?

I'd call them, illegal immigrants? Why attach boat people to the name?
Boat people is to me a slur because if you actually were an illegal immigrant or even an immigrant that was processed properly, how fun would it be walking in the streets having xenophobes say "fucking boat people"
wouldn't be a nice feeling
naw it puts stuff in perspective, it's like the philosophic "view from above"
