isnt firefly already being brought back on the science channel or some shit?
There's no way this could actually happen. I want Firefly to be brought back more than anyone, but this is whole movement is based on one off-hand comment by Nathan Fillion. Who knows if Joss Whedon will even be on board if enough money is raised to buy the rights? As amazing as this would be, it's not happening.
Just pointing out that not only has Joss Whedon said that he would never turn down the opportunity to revive firefly, but almost the entire cast said they would return. The trouble is FOX not Joss Whedon [editline]27th February 2011[/editline]
One thing I'm curious about firefly...why did they sometimes speak chinese??

After Earth's natural resources were used up generations ago, mankind abandoned the planet (which now exists in myth and legend as "Earth-That-Was"), and moved out into the stars. But, mankind held onto the tenets of culture and civilization in the exodus, carrying with it those things both material and spiritual that make us human. Relatively little is known of the early history of the Alliance (such as the exact date of the exodus from Earth, and the reasons why China and the USA allied themselves with each other). The Alliance flag, seen in the original pilot episode, is a blending of the American and Chinese flags (two versions of this flag, one with 13 stripes and one with five stripes, appear in the series).
China and america where the only nations left, they are the only ones that really made something of themselves. The others where either assimilated or burned out.
Wow reading this thread made me really sad, people never having heard of Firefly.. I can only imagine how messed up their view of life is. Anyway, Nathan was probably kidding around, and even if he was serious. He said that he would buy it to put the TV show online. Not resurrect it by a second season. If this is going to happen, it will happen because the people behind the show, the writers and the actors, work together to raise enough funds. Not a bunch of fans that think sending a lot of blue gloves to a company will change anything. EDIT: Oh god, I just read the help nathan buy firefly site, this is on the main page
While we’re putting together the "Big Damn Plan" behind the scenes, you’re all anxious to do something that will help. What would help right now is everyone heading over to Browncoats: Redemption and picking up a copy
What a bunch of bullshit, these are just a bunch of scavengers trying to make a quick buck out of people that desperately want to have the tv show back. Telling people buying this movie is directly helping bring Firefly back on TV is so misleading.
One thing I'm curious about firefly...why did they sometimes speak chinese??
So they can curse and swear without it being bleeped out which would kill the sense of immersion
Wait. Why does he need our money? Doesn't he make a ton of money from the show "Castle"? I'm sure that in itself makes him a few hundred million.
Wait. Why does he need our money? Doesn't he make a ton of money from the show "Castle"? I'm sure that in itself makes him a few hundred million.
There are so many misconceptions about the wealth of actors, it makes sense though. I mean the ones we see the most are usually the ones that make most of the cash. But most actors aren't that wealthy, most of them can't even live of it and have jobs on the side. Now I'm sure Fillion is well compensated for Castle but to suggest he can just throw a 300 million at something is retarded. Also, from his twitter:
It's beautiful to dream of more Firefly, but PLEASE DON'T SEND ANY MONEY. Just keep being great Browncoats, which you are!
He was just saying it because it is really unrealistic that firefly will ever come back with new episodes. He was merely making that statement to show his love for the series.
what the fuck is firefly
If Firefly comes back explain to me where I'm going to get my Wash and my Book I hope it begins before serenity or have flash backs or SOMETHING DAMMT I LOVED YOU WASH :smith:

Yessss
at last there is some type of hope!

Edit: There, he said it himself, don't send money. He doesn't plan on bringing Firefly back. Not like this at least.
I joined the Facebook page. It's the least I can do.
"So far, we have $ 1,378,696.00 pledged." I don't think I believe that.
"So far, we have $ 1,378,696.00 pledged." I don't think I believe that.
You clearly underestimate Firefly fans. Plus that's just pledged money, not donated.
Way to put Fillion on the spot. They could have, like, asked him about it first, or something. Seems like they're just getting the fan-base worked up about something that's probably just going to fail.
Its not like Fillion would need to do it necessarily; maybe if a network realized the demand and potential for a revived Firefly they would pick up the rights and do it them selves. But of course no network actually cares about genuine sci-fi these days sadly.
We only have a million pledged. We need 300 million. I doubt this will ever work.
You clearly underestimate Firefly fans. Plus that's just pledged money, not donated.
That's just it. I AM a firefly fan. I loved every single second of it. Just not sure how on earth a plan like this will hold water...If broadcasters understood the wants of its consumers, we wouldn't be without the show in the first place. I later realized that I was a contributing factor to its demise, as I remember slagging it off while channel flipping.
I just recently fell in love with the series so if they start the show up again I'm all for it. As long as they do it right.
Just speculating here. Even if the 300 million donation doesn't pan out, or if Fillion doesn't want to take the money and buy the rights, maybe the massive amount of donations accumulated by fans will be incentive for some network to consider picking up the series and rolling with it. That's not completely implausible, is it?
I support this entirely and pledged some cash. We need Serenity and her crew back. We need the Hero of Canton back.
300 million will not be needed - that was just a figure taken out of thin air. It is more likely to be somewhere around 10 million. While that is still a lot of money, it is certainly reachable - 100.000 fans would have to donate $100, and Firefly has a hardcore fanbase.

I'd say if the fans can manage to reach $5 million then some network would cover the other half of the money.
$100 is a lot of money for some people.
Keep in mind that is an average as some people may only donate $1 while others might be crazy enough to donate $1,000.
I understand this. But even then will the amount of crazy people outweigh the average person? And that number was based on 100,000 fans. Can we get that many to fork up money?
Help him buy rights to a TV show you can watch on TV for free? What the christ.

You clearly underestimate Firefly fans. Plus that's just pledged money, not donated.
generally when you pledge money online you give them your credit card info like you're buying something, it just isn't deducted immediately.
