Both of you have it backwards... Mcdonalds (the giant corporation) is made up of individual stores. All the individual places they run combined= a ton of profit. Individually they (each) must make a profit or be closed. Yes on top of their individual store profits the corporation sells franchise licenses and they may have other minor sources of income. Would individual franchise locations have more money if the corporation charged less? Of course, and if it made business sense the franchised stores could change their name (and product offerings of course). Short version- if I owned one store that store has to make a profit or it closes. If I own 2k stores each one must make a profit or it closes. It doesn't matter to me if overall I still make a profit with x stores showing a loss- those stores are closing. I don't see franchise fees, royalty fees, or w/e else the corporation charges to use its name being an issue- if you bought into the franchise you knew in full what was demanded (by contract). I don't believe unions have died off so much as they became unnecessary. It is still a valid option though some states laws are more pro union then others. As for the effort of a minimum wage hike drive- yes it takes effort. One person isn't going to get it done. But it has to be a better option then what they're currently doing. As for wall mart. Meh, IMO they should be fined heavily for some of their illegal anti union tactics. Other then their illegal activities I don't see a problem with them.
You missed what we were saying, if there is such a big difference between the margins of the average franchise and the margins of the corporation itself than one solution could be that the corporation lessens what they take or helps pay for some of costs of each franchise. That would mean that minimum wage could be raised quite a lot higher. Also unions died off because of how they have been demonized in the last few decades and because of some states having a good amount of anti union laws.
Also unions died off because of how they have been demonized in the last few decades and because of some states having a good amount of anti union laws.
You mean the same way people like you try to demonize corporations and profit?
You mean the same way people like you try to demonize corporations and profit?
Unions help working people, corporations really don't. By pointing out the fact that corporations are pretty much able to act amorally? That's what this all comes down to, that corporations are allowed to have profits as their only goal. Why the fuck do you want to defend corporations? They obviously have shown they can defend themselves.

If you think they make too much money, then push for laws capping their profits, or better yet, move to a country that ALREADY does everything you want.
Unions help working people, corporations really don't.
Unions are just labour cartels.
If you're sick of being paid shit somewhere go find a new job that pays more. Your job currently does not mean its your job forever
yeah they should just jump in the job cannon and shoot themselves into job land where jobs grow on trees and they can immerse themselves in the fountain of employment
Certainly was for me. I went from making 7.50 to 8.25 then a new job at 12.05 then another new job at 13.00 and my next step will get into a position of 25-30/hr Its about having a plan.
Just because you were fortunate enough to find a way into higher employment doesn't mean those still in lower employment deserve a shitty minimum wage

Why are you defending these corporations when they clearly don't have yours, or people in general, best interest in mind?
