There are two more references to that.
ah really?, I must have missed them I'm going to see the film again next week, if I can scrape together enough money, so I will look out for those second time around.
I liked how brutal and grim it was as well, but I think you're a bit off with the Force comments. [sp]The part I liked most about the film was Donnie Yen's character and his relationship with the force. He was a bit of a 'blind monk' stereotype sure, but the way he was able to feel the Force without really being able to do anything special with it was really interesting to me. It was like he believed in the Force, this mystical thing that seems totally out of place in such a bleak world, and nobody else did, and ultimately, he was right. He wasn't a fancy Jedi who could inspire people with his actual, flashy use of the Force, he was just a guy who was a little more in tune with the world than most other people, and he keeps getting reminded by his heavy gunner bro that it's going to be the death of him, and ultimately, it was, but at the same time, he was fine with it.[/sp]
You're probably right about my force comments. [sp] Being honest I expected Donnie Yen's character to be the token force believer and was about to roll my eyes because I expected the movie to reveal him as a Jedi during the ending battle as he makes a move for the master switch but I was pleasantly surprised to see him PRAYING to survive long enough just to trigger the switch. To me it wasn't the magical flashy hokus pokus I came in expecting so I kind of developed a liking for his character. In the end I think he did prove to be a completely normal person like I mentioned before, a little more in tune with the world like you said but in the end he was still an average joe surviving in the galaxy.[/sp] I actually haven't seen The Force Awakens yet, so I guess I'm following the movies in order from new prequel to new sequel.
I think it did everything well but it still felt like it was missing something. Lightsaber fights, maybe.
Having more flashy lightsaber fights would have ruined the movie in my opinion. If we measure a Star Wars movie by how much iconic bullshit they shove in then we're going to end up with nothing but endless repeats of The Force Awakens. It's important that we observe the original Star Wars movies but it's even more important artistically that Star Wars moves on from the original movies and explores the universe in new and interesting ways. Not every Star Wars movie needs a jedi, or a lightsaber, or force powers or whatever. In fact the universe is at it's best when it keeps that shit to a bare minimum or puts it aside entirely.
For me, the best part of the film was [sp]at the end when Vader slaughters the rebels. Felt like a fucking horror film for a second there with how absolutely savage that was.[/sp]
Really grates my cheese we won't ever get to see the unedited version of that. He was just sensitive, not a jedi.

That [sp]Vader[/sp] scene was great Reposting my OC (spoilers) here to sum up how I felt
How do you know it was edited? that could easily be how they shot it.
Because children in focus group screenings don't give a shit about NDAs.
I liked the [sp]admiral's clever plan towards the end[/sp] [sp]"get my least favourite corvette captain on comms"[/sp]
TBF the Ackbars aren't known for their tactical genius or their foresight. [editline]18th December 2016[/editline]
[sp]I don't want to get too caught up on this because I could write about it all day, but basically, the line that Obi-Wan has about "becoming more powerful than you can possibly imagine" if Vader strikes him down, for me at least, was never about him ascending to some eternal state of bliss or whatever. I always thought it was a very clever jab at Vader, saying that he could never understand what it would be to sacrifice yourself, to relinquish your own life and ultimately become at peace with the universe, and one with the force. Vader could never do that because he's selfish, as are all Sith. They are more powerful warriors but they lack true happiness and peace because they devote themselves entirely to the selfish pursuit of their own power. It was a very powerful message delivered in a subtle line about martyrdom, and then decades later Lucas ruined it all by essentially negating the sacrifice entirely, because Obi-Wan *knew* he could exist on as a ghost.[/sp]
honestly i think Lucas lost sight of the force after the first movie. The whole yoda "hate leads to anger leads to evil leads to darkside" sort of shit always bugged me, like ya be at peace with everything, forgive your enemy but don't be an emotionless zombie. Every emotion according to yoda basically leads you straight into the dark side's clutches. What they did with this movie was really great like you said because its so subtle and [sp] the force is more about being in harmony with the world rather than superficially ignoring all your emotions.[/sp]
but it was setting up the whole "jedi order is too weak" thing with that them not being willing to act is what in part accelerated their demise
Honestly, this was by far the best Star Wars film that has ever been made. There are so many things that it did right, that I don't really have the time to list them all. What an experience, especially towards the end. Makes Episode 7 look like a high school film project in comparison. I absolutely recommend it.

Wasn't expecting this much brilliance from Disney, pleasantly surprised.
watched the movie last night, was a blast. It was hilarious though, the part where [sp]the imperial droid gets shot at the temple, he looks at the hole in his chest, looks up like he's hella offended before starting to tip over,[/sp] then the lights in the theater flickered and the power died. Amazing we ended up having to wait 15 minutes for the theater to reboot, and they fast forwarded to like 10 minutes prior to that point in the movie, which was a bit obnoxious but whatever. I think the wait was worth finding out [sp]that wasn't K-2SO[/sp], the crowd laughed when [sp]he walked up and said DID YOU KNOW THAT WASN'T ME?[/sp]

The characters were forgettable and the story wasn't exactly throwing any interesting punches either, from a critique standpoint it was utterly forgettable. From a casual viewer perspective it was okay I guess, but I personally wouldn't see it again in a theater. If you're looking for generic action movie #621 with Star Wars brand theme for the nostalgia or pop culture factor and you really like the new DC and Marvel movies, you'll probably like Rogue One. It's cheap thrills in a Star Wars setting.

Your experience with it was so much better.
