Sydney Siege, really? Sydney is not surrounded by a military force, it's just one man with a gun in a chocolate shop.
Why must they amplify and exaggerate so much? It's already bad, why do they need to make it sound apocalyptic?
7 says the police commissioner is going to speak soon
Yep.
ABC just briefly mentioned that the NSW Police are expected to release a statement or update (of some sort) in around 20 minutes.
I don't use mine incorrectly.
Once you watch a guy rob a convenience store, get what he wants from the 20 year old girl working the register, and instead of leaving, he points his gun to the ceiling with his arm stretched, lowers it, pointing it at her head, and then puts her brains on the razor blades on display behind her, you realize that sometimes, the word please doesn't fucking work
What the fuck? Has this ever happened?

Yeah but you're missing the point that sometimes escalating a situation isn't the best move either. Especially in a situation like this where the gunman is holding a backpack with an unknown object in it.
I don't really have a dog in this being in the uk, but I can only see concealed carrying causing a lot of confusion, especially if there is another concealed carry licensee around. What is the benefit of concealed versus open carry other than the intimidation aspect?
I prefer open carry, but not because you want people to see it. You don't want people to see it, but the reason I prefer it is if you bend over and it accidentally peaks out of your shirt, it wouldn't be a big deal because it wouldn't be illegal. If that happens in a conceal carry only state, and someone sees it and decides Oh No, I'm calling the police. Depending on the officer's discretion, you could be arrested for improper exhibition of a firearm

Where was your precious concealed carry in that situation? You obviously didn't manage to save her, But now you have nutjobs like that with easier access to guns.
What the fuck? Has this ever happened?
Yes this actually happened, in Nashville

I wasn't there
Apparently one of the hostage takers was in the 2012 sydney riots:

Also apparently the demand was made.
Looks like ABC 24 is now blurring the faces of the hostages. 3 hours after repeatedly showing their faces
I remember when a gunman came into a restaurant and shot the place up. Killed a large number of people, including the parents of a woman right in front of her eyes. But that woman had a conceal carry permit, and a gun, but she left it in her car. Now I wonder how many lives would have been saved had she had it on her. 1? 5? Maybe even none, but not having it means you're a victim, period, you don't get a choice
Okay I mean I own a gun and plan on buying more and probably wouldn't hesitate to use mine in a situation like this if I had to, but trying to turn this in to a case for more guns in Australia or something like that is about as silly as saying Sandy Hook means all guns should be restricted.
They have their culture, we have ours. No need to try and use a scary situation to say they need more guns, or something.

Pure speculation. No need for that.

They just showed them unblurred again

I wasn't trying to turn it into a case for more guns for Australia. I just chimed in that the argument for Conceal carry goes both ways, in that if this guy decided to blow up and kill everyone that someone with a conceal carry would have been nice to have. It's just one of those things that you can really only argue for in hindsight in certain situations
I wonder if shit's gonna go down if this turns out to be connected to IS.

Thanks for info... the laws around open and closed carry seem pretty counter intuitive - you'd think the gun would be a deterrent, so why would you want to conceal it? And how does concealed vs open work in places like banks and shit? It's just confusing man. I'd rather have no guns than not being able to know if the people around me are packing or not.
ABC Strap Reports:
Breaking News -
NSW Police Commissioner and NSW Premier will hold a news conference at 1:30pm AEDT

Damn, that poor woman watching her coworkers in there. The emotion in her voice.

For you.
[sp]btw has any progress been made so far[/sp]
Can we please stop mentioning gun control, honestly it's not needed.

It's a pain in the ass, in all honesty. But in a place where 9/10 the houses have firearms, it's too late to go the gunless way, so might as well stay on a level playing field, as I see it
Also, the coverage of this is so alien to me. FOX news wants to tell you what they think and what you should think, CNN will pull Fred the local Homeless guy and ask him to speculate on the situation, and you only get 10 seconds of facts after a commercial break before they go back into News-Creation. Here it's just been mostly facts and actual fucking info

And religion
This isn't a gun control debate. Stick to the news story please.

I mock my media, I know it's a joke. Anchorman 2, while being a stupid movie, parodied it perfectly
