Any publicity is good for them, so it's best to give them none at all.
The media is giving them more than enough all over the world. Saying that looking and sharing the videos is giving them even more publicity is just hypocritical. The only logical reason I see for not sharing them is to avoid panic, since it mentiones 3 bombs in Sydney but that is all.
Sharing that video can be done after this event passes. This terrorist is doing all this because he wants the attention, he wants to spread some kind of message. And I think by sharing the videos, we're helping him get some of the attention. I won't really ban anyone from posting the vids, I'm going to snip it until it all is over. I hope people can agree that it's a sensible thing to do here at this moment.
The whole world is already watching the event unfold. He has our attention. If anything we should delete the thread and go about our day if you really want to avoid giving him attention.
video was removed off YouTube
The channel has now been removed. Im glad that Youtube was on top of it.
reporting the videos on facebook
I missed past 2 hours of updates. Anything big happened? chanel 7 livestream went off now I think. Also side questions: So is it one guy or what? 1) Do those armed units really stood there for like what? 10 hours and keep standing there all in gear and with shield just waiting? or do they change shifts or something? I imagine they get paid quite a bit for this? 2) I see people in Ireland all day posting: "lol stupid why not take sniper and snipe the guy?" - but could they really not do it? 3) Does he really have explosives or is that unconfirmed? 4) I constantly see people saying he's ISIS or something but some say hes just lunatic, which is right?
Welp it's already on liveleak :/
3) Does he really have explosives or is that unconfirmed? 4) I constantly see people saying he's ISIS or something but some say hes just lunatic, which is right?
Both of these are still unconfirmed
The whole world is already watching the event unfold. He has our attention. Those haven't been broadcasted in the news I assume?
channel 7 going back to live coverage, ABC24 and 9 still going 1) probably shifts, you don't see them moving around too much 2) he could with authorisation but far too dangerous right now, esp considering the lights are off 3) no idea 4) no idea again
right in my neck of the woods, my sister had lunch at that place yesterday. whew
I'm more talking about his specific requests that he's making the hostages say. Those haven't been broadcasted in the news I assume?
nope, Australian media refuses to play the video clips
I'm more talking about his specific requests that he's making the hostages say. Those haven't been broadcasted in the news I assume?
Haven't seen them on the ABC live stream, I'd say not
pretty sure the police asked them to not show the clips and they all agreed

As well as this, he has been using human shields, and getting hostages against the windows. Trying to snipe him puts the hostages at risk. 3) Unconfirmed, but the possibility of it is enough to be a concern for the police. 4) It's not clear. He is claiming that he is with Islamic State, but anyone can make that claim. The other thing is, if he makes that claim, he might as well be with them, even if he is just a lunatic. He is acting in their name.

The only logical reason I see for not sharing them is to avoid panic, since it mentiones 3 bombs in Sydney but that is all.
So it's best to just do nothing and let them have the full attention they want? Yes, sharing those videos is indeed giving them even more publicity, that's the whole point of sharing something.

I find it surprising that facepunch of all places is trying to get rid of a video off the internet. What's going to happen if he gets the attention he wants? It's already been established that he is a fucked up crazy, the video isn't going to put a positive spin on the situation in any way. At the same time I agree, it can't hurt keeping down at-least until all the facts are out and the situation is resolved, but there's not really anything your'e gaining aside from clear conscience.
right in my neck of the woods, my sister had lunch at that place yesterday. whew
Is the place any good? We have a few really nice chocolate cafes here in Adelaide.

Why are you guys running around reporting the videos regarding their demands?
Why are you guys running around reporting the videos regarding their demands?
Makes them feel like they helped somehow
Why are you guys running around reporting the videos regarding their demands?
Because the New South Wales and Federal Police don't want them spread as they spread the word of the terrorists.
Because the New South Wales and Federal Police don't want them spread as they spread the word of the terrorists.
I don't think its going to make someone convert to islam or anything but rather the contrary.
Why are you guys running around reporting the videos regarding their demands?
Apparently the Australian Police recommended it. And frankly I'd rather listen to them than anyone else regarding that matter.
I don't think its going to make someone convert to islam or anything but rather the contrary.
It's not about that, it's simply about making them/him not able to spread his/their word so not giving him//them publicity
I don't think its going to make someone convert to islam or anything but rather the contrary.
People can be really stupid. Just like the time when teenage girls leave their comfortable western life to join a terrorist organization to marry a terrorist. You'd think no one would be that stupid.
I don't think its going to make someone convert to islam or anything but rather the contrary.
Plus honestly its distressing to watch, those poor people.
I don't think its going to make someone convert to islam or anything but rather the contrary.
its to give him less coverage and make this siege useless to him if nobody is watching or listening to his demands
Is it possible that eventually guy just falls asleep?
Plus honestly its distressing to watch, those poor people.
Imagine there's a video of you on youtube and in the media, where you are forced by a terrorist to say all that. You'd want that shit gone as fast as possible.
