--- sorry automerge
So this is what I wake up to see. Anyway is anyone dead?
9 just released information about the hostage taker saying he's a 49 Iranian (?) refugee
Xenophobes are about to have a field day

Urrgh, I can already imagine what my right wing abbott loving muslim hating family is going to say about that.
Was charged for harassing families of dead Australian Defence Force soldiers
PS: So apparently there were 4 bombs placed?
Is there any more news on that?
i watched the videos somewhere
fuck man poor people
they're saying it's an attack by islamic state on australia (i know you don't want the videos posted but i hope this is ok)
Is the place any good? We have a few really nice chocolate cafes here in Adelaide.
erm dunno, I've not been in there, but chocolate cafes are pretty popular here
my sister's really picky so I assume it's good yeah
PS: So apparently there were 4 bombs placed?

Still unconfirmed. I doubt it though
PS: So apparently there were 4 bombs placed?

police aren't confirming it, but in those videos they only said 3, news outlets were reportedly saying 4
1 in store (originally 2 in store) and 2 around Sydney (suburbs were told in the video but I don't recall)
if it was an organised attack the dude wouldnt have brought the wrong flag
lone nut acting on his own
if the demands are met the explosives won't be ignited
He's in a cafe, I'm sure he's got all the coffee he needs
It's just a matter of time before he's exhausted.
Yes, he has a lot of coffee available, but AFAIK drinking a lot of coffee is increasing his need to urinate, which may or may not leave him in a vulnerable state.
He's playing against time and no amount of coffee or adrenaline will help him. The bomb threats could very well be a hoax to buy him more time, but we don't know that yet.
There's 2 endings for him, he's either leaving the building in handcuffs or in a bodybag.
if the demands are met the explosives won't be ignited
If he had explosives that he could detonate around Sydney, he would have detonated one by now, otherwise he wouldn't have sat for 14 hours while his demands have still not been met. If he did and said he has more, he'll probably get some of what he wants in an instant. But he hasn't, because he's probably full of shit
if the demands are met the explosives won't be ignited
So probably he's not operating alone: or the bombs are not far away. Doubt that he has remote ignition for up to 150 meters max, except if its with cellphones but that would be clumsy.
I really hope this will be over soon, this is absolutely horrible.
Tony Abbot poked the bee's nest a few months ago with comments about not tolerating IS and IS retaliating with a video of Australian teens announcing that IS has basically declared war on Australia, as much as I hate to introduce politics to this, Tony has put his foot on the ground with international policies pissing off several foreign countries and groups, including IS. I mean, provoke extremists and get an extreme reaction especially from a group that has international relations.
I just hope this doesn't spark a post 9/11 reaction with even more anti-terrorism policies sinking away tax money. Sad to think that innocent people might be hurt just because someone is pissed off at Tony and our government.
It's just one guy with a gun is it? Why haven't they splattered his brain all over the walls yet? Or is he hiding so police snipers cant get a shot?
Any word?
I'm really surprised this isn't over yet. I really hope no one gets hurt
Im not sure if I should post this and I would like a mod to remove it if I shouldnt, but it seems from what Channel 9 has said, this guy is the terrorist:
SNIPPED UNTIL FURTHER CONFIRMATION
Edit: Im going to assume its okay since according to reddit, news channels are starting to release his name. I wouldn't know since I only watch ABC 24.

What, there's no ramping over the police operation on a sweet bike?
nobody knows how they're operated, or if he's a lone wolf, what the media have been saying is mostly speculation
It's just one guy with a gun is it? Why haven't they splattered his brain all over the walls yet? Or is he hiding so police snipers cant get a shot?
There's a risk that one or more hostages could be injured in the process, and they are not gonna take that risk.
also didn't they jam cell signals? That way he couldn't do a cell ignite
It's just one guy with a gun is it? Why haven't they splattered his brain all over the walls yet? Or is he hiding so police snipers cant get a shot?
it's not that easy
this isn't a fucking video game

yes because he definitely wouldn't have thought about needing to piss and he also definitely expected to walk away scott free from taking a load of hostages in the cbd
"buy more time" lmao
if he's lying about bombs it's to publicise his message
I'm actually surprised that the 15 or so people didn't attempt to tackle him or something. NOT saying they are cowards or anything, but you would think it would be hard to keep 15 people under control at once
Idk why the dumbs, just saying it must be dificult to contain 15 people at once, unless there are 2 of them. Definitely not trying to say the hostages are doing anything wrong or unexpected
