Wait, not the SASR? Odd.
Not that odd.
here in Aus Special Forces comprises of two sides of the same coin if you will: we have SASR, and since about 2000 we've had 2 Commando.
For counter-terrorism capability, both units provide a dedicated cycle of men assigned to that duty, SASR provides TAG-west, and 2CDO provides TAG-east. As the name implies TAG-West is responsible for the western coast of Australia and off-shore incident response, TAG-East is responsible for the eastern side of Australia.
But the BBC is wrong, those were police officers storming the cafe. see:

The media always likes saying the military is involved.
Has the media always been this retarded?
Whenever something big happens they trip all over themselves with speculation and nothing is credible until days after the event.

Anchorman should be a mandatory watch.
Apparently guy demanded ISIL flag to be brought to him. Is this confirmed?
Still going on?? Has any more than the 5 got out?
Still going on?? Has any more than the 5 got out?
Oh no. That's a shit thing to hear waking up.
Sounds like the hostage taker is dead after all?
Sounds like the hostage taker is dead after all?
No confirmation yet. Waiting for an official statement.
I'm glad this over with last thing we needed is for this to turn into a complete storm, I think i may of missed the press conference.
Apparently the police have confirmed the gunman is dead
[editline]15th December 2014[/editline]
That's from ABC
It's odd really i didn't expect anything like this to happen here, I know that certain factions have become aggressive in other country but you would think something like this to happen in the US Or UK as we hear a lot more about violence from those respected country's.
I guess its safe to say that your never safe even at home.

3 dead, 1 being gunman.
Fuck, 3 dead. This is a sad day today.

I wonder how they died. Could the hostage taker have started executing them, and that's why the cops stormed in? Or was it crossfire or something?

Looks like he started executing them and the police rushed in, as said above.
Still, awesome work by the police making sure no other people were killed
Sickening that these people got up yesterday morning expecting another standard day at work, and some of them didn't get a chance to even leave work alive.
It's so disturbing to see the hatred towards muslim emerge from these kind of events. Literally on every piece of news there is someone posting absolute anti-muslim speeches.

Is it even confirmed this was done by a Muslim extremist?
Is it even confirmed this was done by a Muslim extremist?
People seem some weird flag and hear of terrorism, they immediately jump to conclusion and condemn everyone. That is a pretty natural reaction although it always stirs up quite some trouble.
I think the most disturbing thing here is the fact that 2 (or was it 3) hostages have been killed. Way above everything else.
My thoughts go to the family of those poor people.
Is it even confirmed this was done by a Muslim extremist?
Well the reported shooter was of Iranian decent, has a a history of offenses against Australian Soldiers and was accused to be an accomplice in his ex-wife's murder who was beaten then burned alive and was a former Ayatollah, who in an ironic twist had to leave his country cause his interpretation of Islam was "too Liberal".
So yeah, I don't support jumping to conclusions, especially for something like this, but it's easy to see that people have ground to stand on.
That said, it's pretty obvious the guy was a lone wolf with no proper "training" and so wasn't formally aligned with ISIS and the like.
