It's so disturbing to see the hatred towards muslim emerge from these kind of events. Literally on every piece of news there is someone posting absolute anti-muslim speeches.
My mum was spilling that crap on Facebook.
One of the many reasons why I want to get out of this house.
I just woke up to this. Terrible news...
I've updated the OP with the final report. I'll also change the title.

Wow the responses to that video are overtly racist.
Is it even confirmed this was done by a Muslim extremist?
When he's forcing his hostages to hold up a flag saying "there is no god but allah, and mohammed is his prophet" written white on black and also demanding an ISIS flag to be delivered in exhange for a hostage
I'm just wiiiidly spectulaing, but it might just be a muslim extremist.
People seem some weird flag and hear of terrorism, they immediately jump to conclusion and condemn everyone. That is a pretty natural reaction although it always stirs up quite some trouble.
considering the shahada flag, it's more than reasonable to assume it's an Islamic extremist
considering the shahada flag, it's more than reasonable to assume it's an Islamic extremist
Of course, but people tend to generalize and blame an entire population that believes in islam. Which causes further conflicts and tension between religious groups.

Switzerland seems to have a lot of hate towards Muslims, Islamists, Africans, and Eastern Europeans.
Every time you read something like A guy breaking in homes, people stealing stuff, etc... it's immediately assumed that the person is Black/Muslim/Islamist or Eastern European.
The sad part is that it seems to be true for a lot of cases.
I am so tired of seeing apologists for islams behavior in the world. This is a endless spiral of acts against humanity that will never cease to end as long as the barbaric cult exists so will the extremist element.
You can put a tiger in a zoo and pretend it's safe but it's still a wild and dangerous animal. The same applies to islam. Those extremists are just following the original teachings of muhammad who used Abrahamic religions as a basis for his own a gender of slaughtering thousands of people and conquering the middle east.

i hope you realize that islam throughout history has been significantly less violent than Catholicism and the likes. the suicide bomb kill-everyone shit is a relatively recent development.
like, muslims back in the day let women own property and business shit. iirc they also had strict orders to not destroy crops and water sources during the crusades, while Christians just fucked everything up.
[editline]15th December 2014[/editline]
and it's really lame how the entire muslim community has to go forward and say they aren't like the crazy jihad types, but christans never have to do that when the KKK or westboro baptist church do something stupid.

what many don't realize is that christian/right-wing terrorism doesn't propagate as often in western countries specifically because of the fact that their voices are at least marginally represented in government and any violent activities are often uncovered and met with an effective police response.
the often-impoverished and often-authoritarian nations of the middle east do not have those luxuries.

What many don't realize is there is christian extremisim alive and kicking, but it is contained to africa mostly where no one ever cares
Also muslims get massacred by buddhists in Burma but no one cares again
Either people are so selective they are hypocritical, or they just accept news stories as the only truth and never ever think of the "not-newsworthy" parts of the world
The media is drumming Muslim hate into the ears of every western and even European viewer on a daily basis.
It's no wonder why a majority of the western world is reacting hatefully.
Also lets not forget that it's been "us against them" mentality since 9/11 in not just america, but any coalition force that helped invade Iraq and Afghanistan.
This shit isn't new. Terrorism is real, and the most broadcasted terror events happen to be the ones in the middle east.
So Lets think for a second how a nation that has been at war for hundreds of years and has adapted to using "below the belt" tactics has spread to different countries around the world attacking "infidels" and the resulting reaction that the bystanders of the world are going to see.
I'm not stirring up any hate here. I'm especially not saying fuck all muslims because of a group of wackjob extremists, because nearly every denomination of religion and country in the world has them. What I'm pointing out here is that there is no wider broadcasted and well documented form of extremism on the planet right now.
I think we only have the media to blame for the state of mind that so many people have been put in.
tbh, I hope the people that did escape before he killed the two innocent people feel certain guilt and responsibility for those people dying.

tbh, you're the kind of person I'm disgusted to share this country with.
It's a troll/gimmick, don't give him the benefit.
I fell asleep at midnight and woke up and it was over
what a terrible situation. 2 deaths and 3 injuries is still just terrible. Its a shame but it seems that nothing could be done.
[editline]16th December 2014[/editline]
The two victims were identified - the manager of the store and a lawyer, ages 34 and 38 respectively.
The woman had 3 kids under 10 too :(
Well damn. I can only hope cooler heads prevail in the aftermath of this.
The woman had 3 kids under 10 too :(
Wow, that's terrible.
I hope those kids have still got relatives to look after them.

While radical Islam didn't exist before the 20th century, to say that they were less violent than Catholicism is absurd, given that the many numerous caliphs and sultans of history have tended to be as brutal as their european contemporaries.
like, muslims back in the day let women own property and business shit. iirc they also had strict orders to not destroy crops and water sources during the crusades, while Christians just fucked everything up.
During the Arab expansion they did actually have a tendency to burn down a lot of towns and cities, burn books, kill heretics, etc. Civil wars were pretty frequent too.
Also source for women owning property? Even if they did, this is a moot point considering that over 90% of the population didn't even own land or run businesses anyways.

watching this unfold live on tv was the worse, you had no idea what was going on at first and it sounded and looked so violent you knew there had to be some casualties
It seems that the manager, Tori Johnson, was shot when he attempted to wrestle the gun off of the perpetrator while he was dozing off. The other victim, Katrina Dawson, apparently died of a heart attack on the way to the hospital. Not sure if she was shot prior or what exactly happened there. Imagine if extremist Christian groups were suicide bombing arabs in the East. Being the minority the normal ones would apologize to try to disassociate with the nut jobs.
So, what happened? I was asleep when they stormed it. Did the police say that's it, enough's enough and storm it or did the gunman start shooting and force their hand to storm it?
Gunman died for real? He pretty much got what he wanted all along.
So, what happened? I was asleep when they stormed it. Did the police say that's it, enough's enough and storm it or did the gunman start shooting and force their hand to storm it?
allegedly through reports, the manager wrestled the hostage taker trying to grab his sawn off shotgun as he was dozing off and 7 escaped during it
he must of lost and the gunman shot him fatally which caused the police to raid the building because as soon as someone gets hurt, lethal force is immediately authorised
So, what happened? I was asleep when they stormed it. Did the police say that's it, enough's enough and storm it or did the gunman start shooting and force their hand to storm it?
The store manager apparently noticed the hostage taker start to doze off, so he attempted to wrestle the gun off of him. He was shot and killed in that struggle I believe, and as soon as police heard the shot they made the choice to move on in. Some of the other hostages may have been injured in the crossfire, and a second hostage died of a heart attack on the way to hospital apparently.
Respect goes out to that manager. He died giving everyone else a chance to get out.
If it had of went on much longer the gunman would have been getting extremely tired and restless which probably could have caused a much worse outcome.
one of the hosts on the sunrise show broke down crying when she learns that she knew the brother of the woman killed

so sad
I am not trying to come off as mean or anything and while I prefer if no one died except the terrorist, I am glad only two died and no more.
So did the terrorist shoot a hostage or...?
