ps3 was exactly the same and that didnt really overheat
A few of the first ones has a tendency, but it's nowhere near as bad as the xbox 360. After all, a efficient switchmode power supply is well beyond 90% efficient.
no it has this
Or in other words... [T]http://www.kenable.co.uk/images/fig_8_plug_uk_3_pin.jpg[/T]
Feels nicer? More secure? Placebo effect?
because you somehow like to have a extra clumsy brick laying around?
no it has this
finally, a use for the LEGO Generator set in my closet.
The PS4 is a feat of engineering. They manage to house the PSU internally, have much better hardware and still manage to keep it smaller than the Xbox One, whilst $100 cheaper.
jesus christ I actually thought that was a 360
because you somehow like to have a extra clumsy brick laying around?
In case the power supply died I guess it's a con in the PS4's case because you'd have to send the console all the way back to Sony instead of just getting a replacement power brick from MS like you would if it died. Other than that, there's not really any benefits to having an external power brick. (If not for better cooling)
edit: ok turbonerds you can stop rating me dumb because i'm not a super computer geek and know about every last bit of technology
We're rating you dumb because of this, not because you didn't know what a powerbrick was. Though I do find it kinda funny you didn't since it's not even a technical term!
It would've been cool if it came with a power brick and the console was even smaller!
...nah. The size is fine and power bricks are annoying at times.

(If not for better cooling)
Switchmode power supplies are pretty damn resilient, as long as they didn't cheap out on the capacitors. Which is the cause of flickering and eventual "death" of many flatscreen TV's and computer monitors. Even though replacing those capacitors is often enough to restore them to working condition again. And AFAIK it's quite easy to replace the power supply module of a slim PS3, even though you'd have to remove the top cover.
Oh thank fucking god, and hopefully it has this as its power cord [t]http://www.globalspec.com/ImageRepository/LearnMore/20121/A_plug29bd395128064dd68a5e4fff24f37d9b.png[/t]
Where's the grounding on that damn thing?
Why would you prefer one?
Generally you don't have as much heat being built up in the console's chassis with the built in PSU. Ergo, less chance of thermal damage.
Where's the grounding on that damn thing?
Doesn't need grounding because 'merica
Where's the grounding on that damn thing?
why would it need to be grounded? the 360's chassis and power brick casing are made of plastic (serious question, i don't have a very good understanding of electricity)
I hope they don't place the vents right where the goddamn HDMI/AV ports are like on the PS3. One of my AV cables got messed up by the heat from the vents.
why would it need to be grounded? the 360's chassis and power brick casing are made of plastic (serious question, i don't have a very good understanding of electricity)
If there's a build up of charge in the 360 and it doesn't have a ground, touching it could kill you?
why would it need to be grounded? the 360's chassis and power brick casing are made of plastic (serious question, i don't have a very good understanding of electricity)
Any power cord for a unit would need grounding because electrical surges happen all the time.
If there's a build up of charge in the 360 and it doesn't have a ground, touching it could kill you?
Something tells me this has never happened

It isn't? It looks exactly like the 360 (the rounded shape to the left, etc)?
If there's a build up of charge in the 360 and it doesn't have a ground, touching it could kill you?
It wouldn't fry you, just the system.
wait, what? It isn't? It looks exactly like the 360 (the rounded shape to the left, etc)?
its the HD DVD drive
its the HD DVD drive
wow ok. that image was certainly confusing.
If there's a build up of charge in the 360 and it doesn't have a ground, touching it could kill you?
Standoffs or the equivalent. They are the reason why your computer does not immediately fry when you touch it. When it does fry, it feels and looks like a big static shock. You also feel surprise and shortly the five stages of grief of your now dead computer unless you have a warranty. No death. What could actually kill you is the power supply.
why would it need to be grounded? the 360's chassis and power brick casing are made of plastic (serious question, i don't have a very good understanding of electricity)
You don't necessarily need grounding on all electrical items, grounding can also cause a few issues in specific cases.
I'm totally ignorant about these things, but if I were to use it in Japan and the UK, I wouldn't need a transformer? Edit: Or any other country with a different voltage and frequency for that matter.
You would, the power brick brings 110/240 AC it down to 12 and 5 volts DC in the 360, same with the PS3s PSU.
to be fair the kinect is a pretty crazy piece of hardware and certainly drives the price up
A crazy piece that shouldn't be forced on customers so they can get a cheap product. Y'know like the PS Eye.
You don't necessarily need grounding on all electrical items, grounding can also cause a few issues in specific cases.
actually yes you do it's just that some stuff like your iphone and car are gounded on a big piece of metal (and obviously the negative on your battery). usually just the metal frame of whatever it is.. basically the metal is much more appealing in case there is a short than your body is so the electricity doesn't shock you. every cord has a ground but the 3 prong ones just have a second dedicated ground
A crazy piece that shouldn't be forced on customers so they can get a cheap product. Y'know like the PS Eye.
They want to make the kinect a core part of the xbox. This has been really obvious since when the original came out for the 360. If that's not what you're interested then whatever, but it's really silly of you to criticize them just because their hardware choices don't suit you. This is the same thing as complaining that the wii u gamepad is "forced on customers". Cool dont get one.
The thing about the kinect is that in order for it to be utilized correctly, developers need to be confident that everybody can take advantage of the stuff they're doing with it. With the old kinect, only a small fraction of people actually had it so devs didn't bother.
the grounding on my ps3 sure didn't work because it shocked me every time i touched the power button.
It's a feature, just to confirm you actually touched it.
the grounding on my ps3 sure didn't work because it shocked me every time i touched the power button.
Shocked... like emotionally? of how 3p1c the console is?
