It's like the spree of shootings the media was covering late last year.
Except the media instigates more shootings.
Fertilizer is very explosive so it was probably just an accident.
Why the fuck are you all talking about shootings? This is a big deal. I have a few friends that live in Waco and the surrounding area and it's not exactly "oh the media's just latching on to explosions after Boston!" People are hurt and there's stuff burning. Stop being so fucking cynical and realize that this explosion is a serious one that most likely will end with lives lost. For fuck's sake, guys.

shit
here's a map of the tank that exploded. The fact that this explosion crossed a street and caught a school on fire is testament to how massive it was. The school's quite the distance away, the entire tank just blew up.
Nearby nursing home collapsed. People are trapped inside.
Reuters just said the nursing home has collapsed.... I hope everyone's okay there. Trying to find a source, since I heard it through CNN, but Anderson Cooper, who was relaying the information said the info came from Reuters. [editline]sdfs[/editline] Found it. 911buff saying all buildings within a half mile are "blown away" No source so take it with a grain of salt

Video of the blast: http://www.kwkt.com/news/caught-camera-fertilizer-plant-explosion-near-waco This is so disturbing.
The pepcon plant that blew years back had 9,000,000lbs of explosive material detonate all at once and this makes it look like a firecracker. That thing probably had the power of a small nuke.
Nah, the pepcon one was much larger
also who the fuck let a fertilizer plant be built next to a nursing home and school anyways?
also who the fuck let a fertilizer plant be built next to a nursing home and school anyways?
The school and nursing homes were probably built around the plant.
http://www.kwkt.com/news/caught-camera-fertilizer-plant-explosion-near-waco Video
There is apparently a second tank that has not exploded, which is, of course, a MAJOR concern right now.
Video of the blast: http://www.kwkt.com/news/caught-camera-fertilizer-plant-explosion-near-waco This is so disturbing.
I jumped out of my skin when that happened. Christ that was too fast.
Holy fuck, that video is insane. Are the people who filmed it okay?
Holy fuck, that video is insane. Are the people who filmed it okay?
When I saw it the little girl in the back of the truck kept yelling 'Daddy I can't hear' many seconds after the explosion. The guy dropped the camera inside the car. Maybe they cut it because it was too disturbing, I don't know. I'm guessing the guy who filmed it escaped just fine.
Video of the blast: http://www.kwkt.com/news/caught-camera-fertilizer-plant-explosion-near-waco This is so disturbing.
That is one fucking huge amount of energy.
also who the fuck let a fertilizer plant be built next to a nursing home and school anyways?
Why a fertilizer plant was built even remotely near a city is beyond me.
I'm sure WPD and WFD are evacuating an even further radius.
http://goo.gl/maps/c1zRg Here is where it's located. That whole area must be a disaster right now.
That is one fucking huge amount of energy.
Ran a little guesstimate based on the Google Maps pictures of the tank, and its apparent proportions in the video. Less than nine thousand cubic meters. The truck in the Oklahoma city bombing was, how big? Maybe 4x2x3, at most, which is 24 cubic meters. 375. Three hundred and seventy five Oklahoma City truck bombs. Thankfully it was a more or less isolated area, if there had been any tall buildings or other factories in the area they would've have been absolutely, completely flattened, no question about it.
What type of chemicals are these again? I'm bad at reading, I know they moved Triage upwind of the plant because they didn't want fertilizers
What type of chemicals are these again? I'm bad at reading, I know they moved Triage upwind of the plant because they didn't want fertilizers
Ammonium nitrate. Nasty stuff. Timothy McVeigh and I believe Anders Breivik used it in their bombs.
also who the fuck let a fertilizer plant be built next to a nursing home and school anyways?
Where do you think tbey were getting the 'fertilizer' from?
also who the fuck let a fertilizer plant be built next to a nursing home and school anyways?
School cafeteria food.
