Team of evolutionary psychologists find that perception of race is not automatic

My two cents:
I'm fully white. Growing up in a diverse area, and being raised a hardcore leftist by my feminist mother, I never really saw people as being different because of who they looked like or what race or sex they were. Having grown up, and also due to being raised in a diverse area, I can now strongly say that where you're from says a lot more than what you look like.
Racism itself is retarded.

Racism implies I blindly hate a group. I do not. I tolerate them, which doesn't mean I have to like them.
Can you claim to like every group, do you like the bronies, the fedora idiots, the religious zealots? Or do you just tolerate them?

Not really, being racist doesn't necessarily mean that you hate them.
Being racist means that you hold the belief that one race is inherently better at something than another race based only on the notion of the race.

Bronies and religious zealots choose to be so, it's not genetic
Race is genetic and has no bearing on personality
Bronies and religious zealots choose to be so, it's not genetic

Race isn't genetic, its a social construct.
(edit for clairty)
It would be ridiculous to say, for example, that all white people have a common genetics with each other.
Race isn't genetic, its a social construct.
Unless you are saying that all white/asian/black people share the same genetic lines within their race based only on their race.
Yes but what race someone is considered is based on the appearance their genes produce
ethnicity =/= race =/= culture

"hey i mean i dont blindly hate them they did somethin to deserve it so its okay.. aint like im hurtin em, i still put up with those FUCKS.."
yeah son youre racist
Yes but what race someone is considered is based on the appearance their genes produce
Appearance is only one factor in race, there are other things that determine race such as geographic location and ethnicity.
Saying that race is genetic is wrong.
Appearance is only one factor in race, there are other things that determine race such as geographic location and ethnicity.
Saying that race is genetic is wrong.
He didn't.
He didn't.
???
Bronies and religious zealots choose to be so, it's not genetic
Appearance is only one factor in race, there are other things that determine race such as geographic location and ethnicity.

Then I have no idea what race is, regardless my point stands; it has nothing to do with personality and isn't a choice
Race isn't genetic, its a social construct.
Unless you are saying that all white/asian/black people share the same genetic lines within their race based only on their race.
So you are saying that race isn't genetic, but it is?
???
Yeah, he's referring to the social concept of race based on skin color as a result of genetic make up, which he pointed out. Read better. Not an actual genetic race or species on par with those of other animals
Then I have no idea what race is, regardless my point stands; it has nothing to do with personality and isn't a choice
Race is a way to classify populations of people.
You are right on the second part.
Could someone exactly define race? It seems very arbitrary.
I've always thought it was grouping based on genetic traits
At the risk of sounding like I associate with /stormfront/ and the like, I think "biotruths" sounds like a really short way of saying, "I refuse to believe that humans are not blank slates affected by 100% nurture and 0% nature and cannot tell the difference between explaining why something came be and explaining why something should be, so I 'm just going to dismiss any explanation of human behavior that isn't 'social constructs' as a thinly veiled attempt to justify why women should stay in the kitchen"
So you are saying that race isn't genetic, but it is?
I probably misworded what I meant to say.
I was trying to point out the ridiculousness of saying all white (or asian or black) people have the same genetic line.
Could someone exactly define race? It seems very arbitrary.

2
a : a family, tribe, people, or nation belonging to the same stock
b : a class or kind of people unified by shared interests, habits, or characteristics
3
a : an actually or potentially interbreeding group within a species; also : a taxonomic category (as a subspecies) representing such a group
b : breed
c : a category of humankind that shares certain distinctive physical traits
I'm on an iPad and didn't feel like typing extra so I ended up being rather vague.
Could someone exactly define race? It seems very arbitrary.
because it is very arbitrary
It isn't important if people do group people together based on physical traits such as skin color as long as they are not discriminated against because of it.
t's just very easy to dislike a group when you spend half your life hearing about the stupid shit they do.
Have you seen the stupid shit white people do? Why don't you hate them for it?
Have you seen the stupid shit white people do? Why don't you hate them for it?
Because he is trying to rationalize dumb racism
So what this basically says is people aren't from the ground up racist, but can get racist because of events?
because it is very arbitrary
eh not really
Thus, analysis of the 993-locus dataset corroborates our earlier results: if enough markers are used with a sufficiently large worldwide sample, individuals can be partitioned into genetic clusters that match major geographic subdivisions of the globe, with some individuals from intermediate geographic locations having mixed membership in the clusters that correspond to neighboring regions.
[editline]30th April 2013[/editline]
we found that individuals could be partitioned into six main genetic clusters, five of which corresponded to Africa, Europe and the part of Asia south and west of the Himalayas, East Asia, Oceania, and the Americas

So what this basically says is people aren't from the ground up racist, but can get racist because of events?
Other way around - we're ground-up racist but you can fiddle with the framing of a situation to remove the effect.
Have you seen the stupid shit white people do? Why don't you hate them for it?
Because they didn't knock down my fence last month, they didn't leave cigarette butts on my lawn, they didn't knock over my rubbish bin on collection night.
You live in a small rural town, and you deal with the same groups as lot more than you would in the city. And in my experience, I've had a lot more bad experience with aboriginals than any other racial group.
"hey i mean i dont blindly hate them they did somethin to deserve it so its okay.. aint like im hurtin em, i still put up with those FUCKS.."

Yeah son, you're intolerant. It's easy to justify your own views by putting someone on a lower level, as ironic as it sounds. Still, little point arguing any more, no ones opinions are going to change, I'm not going to love aboriginals by the end, so I'm going to be an ass and just leave the thread.

You know its so weird, i feel incredibly uncomfortable around black people. I dont know why, i dont dislike them, i just get nervous. I guess it probably because i've never really had any black friends? I have Asain friends and whatnot but never any black friends. That, along with me already being pretty socially inept. It feels stupid though.
I always kind of thought classifying somone by race went more along with appearance; when i meet someone i usually remember their race, based on how they look, simply because its a part of their appearance. I might be wrong about their actual race, but i just identify them as such. Pretty interesting article.
When I turned 16, I went to the DMV to get my license and whatnot, and while I was there, there were these two families that were waiting in the same room with me.
One family was a hickish, white trash bunch of hillbillies.
The other was a pack of ghetto, hoodrat thugs.
Both families had a very young child with them, the whites had a baby boy, the blacks had a baby girl.
And the babies were playing with each other without a care in the world, laughing, playing, cooing and all that. and this really dawned on me that racial intolerance and hatred isn't born, it's learned.
Oh and I got my license too.
for real there are mad racists on page 1 of this thread
