Also how is this the next 06? I think this game looks more complete than 06.
I'm looking forward to this game, but remember when Sonic 06 looked complete too? Remember how some features, assets and animations actually dissapeared from the final version for no reason?
afaik it's the same voiceactor as from sonic generations, which is great though if amy's voiceactor is the same i might kill myself in disgust
And he has been Eggman's VA since 06.
My headcanon is that Eggman is just a nickname he likes and Robotnik is his real name.
If I remember right, in the first Sonic Adventure Robotnik got pissed as all hell when Sonic called him Eggman, as a stab at his weight/body shape. I doubt he suddenly likes being called that, he probably either grudgingly accepts it while being mildly annoyed, or actively disputes it when it's used like back in SA1.
I wasn't expecting this today. Much less the sheer amount of backlash and hilarity that ensued.
robotnik is by far the best redesign out of all of them. His voice is pretty good too.
Tails came out of it alright, I like that they're at least somewhat alluding to his being a pilot and mechanic as well since lately he's been portrayed mostly just book smart. Everything apart from Eggman and Tails in this redesign looks pretty ass, though. They should not have gone back to a Sonic Adventure 2-style centered mouth for Sonic. I hope this "franchise reboot" doesn't last too long, and if it does, that SEGA doesn't force Archie to follow suit with the comics.
Oh and what is with the bandages?
Last time I saw bandages used in a design like that it was to suggest a downtrodden, oppressed look. For a post apocalypse thing, of course. No idea what they're for there based on the trailers.
My headcanon is that Eggman is just a nickname he likes and Robotnik is his real name.
iirc Eggman is a name that he was bullied with in youth and he took it and turned it around and used it for his empire (I think this is just comic canon though). Robotnik being his real name was never removed from the canon, as evidenced by Gerald Robotnik not being renamed Gerald Eggman.
I hope this "franchise reboot" doesn't last too long, and if it does, that SEGA doesn't force Archie to follow suit with the comics.
It's its own separate continuity from both the games and the comics, not to mention the series' episode concepts known so far (Knuckles going for mayor, Eggman pretending to get injured to sue Sonic, Sonic firing Tails as his sidekick to protect him and Eggman applying) probably wouldn't work in the story of the comics beyond loose references.
(Knuckles going for mayor, Eggman pretending to get injured to sue Sonic, Sonic firing Tails as his sidekick to protect him and Eggman applying)
Alright, now this is just too batshit for me to not give it a fair chance.

what
SEGA has also now confirmed that Sonic Boom is the third title to be released as part of the three game exclusive deal with Nintendo. The the game is developed using CryEngine (not the latest version), runs in 1080p (according to the trailer)
http://nintendoenthusiast.net/news/sega-announces-new-sonic-sub-franchise-sonic-boom/
Sonic sounds really off in the tv-show trailer.
The game is developed using CryEngine
Sonic Bloom?
Adding "Bangarang" to the trailer unironically was the ultimate mistake. Nothing spells out "Ultra wannabe hip&cool gangsta" more than that fucking song. And modern Sonic already has a bad reputation for trying too hard at looking ~cool~ and ~edgy~. It's like they haven't learned anything in the past 8 years.
Sonic sounds really off in the tv-show trailer.
He sounds exactly like he does ever since Sonic Colors
Some details about the show:
- the show and games will be accompanied by new toys by Tomy - the games will integrate with the show in some way - Wii U game includes an energy bungee cord power - game will center on an adventure in an ancient land - lots of exploration and melee combat - also includes high-speed traversal - 3DS game will feature a different story and level architecture but happens in the same world - one episode of the show has Sonic firing Tails from his sidekick position - Eggman applies for the position - Eggman tries to get into Modern Lair Magazine and, after losing again to Sonic, he fakes an injury and takes Sonic to court - co-op mechanics will also factor into the toys - the new take on Sonic won't replace modern Sonic - both games are being developed in collaboration with Sonic Team - series is expected to air in North America on Cartoon Network during the 2014-2015 season - will feature 52 11-minute episodes - game overall is similar in structure to Sonic Adventure, in that it'll feature a main hub and missions branching off that - no release date given yet
Looks like they at taking the zany route for the show.
It'd be funny if when New Sonic grinds a rail his bandages come off and his shoes fall apart

Wouldn't Wario be the muscular one?
Part of me believes those character models are placeholders.
- Will take “the franchise to another level”

(Knuckles going for mayor, Eggman pretending to get injured to sue Sonic, Sonic firing Tails as his sidekick to protect him and Eggman applying).
The weirdest level.
Wouldn't Wario be the muscular one?
Wario's also a fatass so no. Holy shit can you imagine what Waluigi would look like in this style? He wouldn't even fit on the page.
Wario's also a fatass so no.
But he's the strong one of plumbers.
Some of the plot threads in the cartoon sound like stories from Batman comics. An obvious villain trying to abuse the legal system (such as the time The Joker dumped toxin into the river making all of the fish smile, and then tried to copyright them) and a villain applying to become the protagonist's sidekick (there was a Batman story where Harley Quinn tried to become the new Robin and totally kicked The Joker's ass)
'Fingers the Echidna'
Am I the only one who likes their new look? I mean, okay: the in-game models look off, but the designs themselves look fairly solid from the art and CG trailer. I kinda like the bandage thing, and it's cool how they're giving them more distinct silhouettes. Gives it more of an Americanized look. MINUTES LATER: Well, this certainly explains that, then. Sonic Team is completely hands-off with this one; it's all Big Red Button.
Oh god it's true. [t]http://www.gamereactor.de/media/82/segakundigtsonic_1058204b.jpg[/t]
