Why is this necessary.. Our officials need to get their heads out of their asses.
Fuck no I WILL NOT USE THIS THE INTERNET SHOULD BE FREE FROM CONTROL, FREEDOM OF THE INTERNET, I SHOULD BE A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT NOWDAYS
you should be a basic human right? what
Why is this necessary.. Our officials need to get their heads out of their asses.
Attention, 50-75% the government does is unnecessary, and everyone knows it.
you should be a basic human right? what
No one on this earth should be denied their god given right of ineedateam1!
Poor American trolls, this will make there job harder :( .
It should be a basic human skill to read, but you're clearly incapable of that.
Well, it's pretty damn hard to learn how to read, when someone can barely spell.
Yes, a thing that is still in planning stages and is designed to be an optional convenience takes away many freedoms
It won't take away much "freedom", privacy might go down, but when it comes to how people post their entire lives on social networks, privacy becomes a foreign term by choice.
Change... The youth of our generation needs to get their act together. [editline]10th January 2011[/editline] What do you think the current administration's agenda is?
The current administration's agenda is not Socialist.
ITT: Angsty teens who don't know what OpenID is.
One step closer for Americans to become a number rather than a person.
You already are a number. You always have been. I don't understand why people think the government cares for their personal well-being or individuality specifically. They deal with millions of people, you're just number 1,245,846 as long as you stay out of the spotlight - and that's the way you want it. You know you're in shit when the government knows you by name (either that or you're extremely wealthy and famous). That's right. Fuck your individuality, no one cares except those who know you personally, and that's the honest truth. It's not sad or depressing, it's simply how it is. You can't remember the name of that cashier lady at Rite-Aid, she's completely irrelevant to you, so imagine the government keeping track of all hundred-million names in the US alone, and not even just European names, there's the Tyquandas and Jaykwons and Nik'Klaks or whateverthefucks; and that's just names. They can't meet every fucking person and know people personally, it's hard enough to get accurate polling results too. You are part of a machine, it's not a negative philosophy, it's not a horrifying dystopia future, it's how governments work. Just deal with it.
This is fucked up. Thankfully I live in Canada, but when it comes, hopefully we'll have good ID hiding software because that scares the shit out of me. Cybersecurity can go fuck itself, that's just a term used so that the government can make restrictions on things without people noticing. "It's for your own safety" - Worldwide Government.

We've figured out the government doesn't care.
Why is this necessary.. Our officials need to get their heads out of their asses.
It isn't necessary but it could make certain aspects of e-commerce easier. Which is why the commerce department is doing it.
I did, and to be blunt, I think it's bullshit. The US government doesn't do things for the good and convenience of the people. They don't come forward randomly and announce shit like this just because they want to be nice. All you have to do is read between the lines and you can see how they can use this to monitor activity - something they're pretty good at doing already. And also the fact this plan is riddled with potential security flaws which the system it's supposed to replace does not have.
Well it is optional you know.
Sounds like a good idea on the surface. However if someone were to circumvent the security then they'd get a lot more than say, a password to some random site.
Lack of privacy, nbd farewell laissez faire
What the hell does this have to with laissez faire economics
E commerce is easy and effective enough with people doing it themselves. E Capitalism is brilliant these days. Look at how it has taken off, all privately as well. Why does the government need to extend it's 'kindness' to the people in order to make 'e-commerce' easier. I think its unnecessary, and there's definetly a hidden motive for them to create it. Just wait until babies leave hospitals with a necessary RFID chip in their fucking brain
And also, since when did keeping a leash on password memorizing become a big deal? We are being dumbed down by technology. It's pathetic.
Its the mark of the beast! Run for the hills!
For now.
Well until then, I see no cause for concern.
ITT a compelling argument for the return of Bad Reading It's a good idea, if you ask me. Especially since people don't have to worry about remembering passwords anymore. They can just put random ass gibberish down and make this card do the password memory for them. Equals less successful phishing attempts ("I don't know my password, I use that Internet card thing")

good luck with that goverment
It's probably not to far off in the US.
How so?

I work with an administration so most of the people I deal with are just files in a cabinet.
Well it is optional you know.
Thank god.
For now.
:tinfoil: :ohdear:
Considering the US government is showing an interesting in removing human rights one-by-one, it's probably not far off.
What human rights have the US government removed recently? As of right now, this law does not remove any.
What human rights have the US government removed recently? As of right now, this law does not remove any.
The birth of 'national security' As Benjamin Franklin said, "Any society that will give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and will lose both". And by the way, all these 'level-headed' status quo sucking knobs can take a little bit of angst and radical opinions we're in a political debate here. You're going to see people saying 'fuck the governmet,' And I believe there's a reason why they're saying it.
