Islamic Caliphates in the middle east running all the way up to the fall of the Ottoman Empire were far more tolerant of multiculturalism than Europe ever was up until that point. There's a reason there have been thousands of small christian communities of various flavors in the middle east but primarily Roman Catholicism and Greek Orthodox in Europe for the last dozen centuries. We owe a massive portion of our identity to the near east. Maybe the west shouldn't have completely destabilized the region through colonialism.
