PTSD can really fuck with you, but it doesn't make you a psychotic killer in any terms. I have/have experienced PTSD before because of a car accident when I was driving and to this day I've never been able to step into a vehicle without reliving it and being afraid. Obviously it's not much compared to things like being in Afghanistan, but I know that while it may severely beat you down it doesn't make you a liability to anyone but yourself for the majority of cases

Obviously not but it's probably one of those things that should be looked into.
Seems like quite the liability to me. Doesn't take a whole lot to set someone off with serious PTSD.
Ill chalk this up to ignorance. The news reports you see about people with PTSD going "crazy" are represenative of so few people its hard to call it a minority, hundreds of thousands of people suffer from PTSD and its kind of insulting to say there a hair away from losing their shit.
The fact that it was 10:00 PM seems like an important detail
Day and night would make a pretty big difference in how suspicious a dude crossing the border with three guns would be, I'd think

really? sounds like it was looked into enough for him to get the gun
What does this have to do with anything any ways other than to try and insult people with PTSD? No excuses please.

Note: Said person was a marine. US military tend to have health insurance covered by the US government even after retiring from the military. One of the things it covers is things such as PTSD. Why are you assuming it hadn't been looked into?
Reminds me of this anecdote:

The US doesn't exactly have a great record with mental health and firearms. Can you have a mental health problem and handle owning a gun? Yes. Can everyone? No. That's all I'm saying. This has been an issue for a long time. Some states are diligent with it and some aren't.

Last I heard, that kind of care was in an appalling state. Isn't the suicide rate for returning soldiers at like an all time high right now?

The military provides great mental health care, how do I know? Because it's my job. All suicides are not preventable and Mental health treatment is not mandatory. We do what we can, but in the end we don't have control over the actions someone will take.

What you hear and what we get are two different things. My experience with the Military's Mental Healthcare has been nothing but positive, and has significantly helped me cope with coming home and integrating back into normal society. The problem is you can't force people into getting help unless they do go off and do something stupid, and when your whole mentality is not to show a sign of weakness going to seek mental health care can be seen as such. The Care and Treatment is there and available, it's the stigma that is stopping most people.
