22 Arabic Al Jazeera staff resign over bias coverage of Egypt
Cairo: The news channel Al Jazeera Mubasher Misr saw 22 members of staff resign on Monday in Egypt over what they alleged was coverage that was out of sync with real events in Egypt.
Anchor Karem Mahmoud announced that the staff had resigned in protest against what he called “biased coverage” of the events in Egypt by the Qatari broadcaster.
Mahmoud said that the resignations had been brought about by a perceived lack of commitment and Al Jazeera professionalism in media coverage, adding that “the management in Doha provokes sedition among the Egyptian people and has an agenda against Egypt and other Arab countries.”
Mahmoud added that the management used to instruct each staff member to favour the Muslim Brotherhood.
He said that “there are instructions to us to telecast certain news”.
Haggag Salama, a correspondent of the network in Luxor, had resigned on Sunday accusing it of “airing lies and misleading viewers”. He announced his resignation in a phone-in interview with Dream 2 channel.
Well its Al Jazeera....
I'm glad to see reporters and news workers standing up for journalism though. Nobody from large media giants does that.
Al Jazeera is one of the least biased new companies, even better than the BBC. I'm glad that they've done this; they have a reputation to live up to.
I looked on Al-Jazeera's site and they aren't reporting this for some reason.

Better than the BBC?
This is why I stick to Fox News. Best coverage and least bias.
no.
Who would have guessed?

Fox News is my favorite satirical news site. I really enjoy the borderline insanity of alot of their hosts.
Left leaning news sources are said to be less bias but they aren't any better than Fox at this point.

Don't forget about Russia Today, they're also totally transparent and not funded by the Russian government!

Because MSNBC has always been the pinnacle of unbaised news sources, right. Not saying Fox isn't biased either, but watch both and come up with your own damn opinions based upon the opinion of all sides.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what he just said.
Saw this one coming.
There are no unbiased mainstream media news sources.
If you're looking for unbiased news the internet citizen media is probably the best place to look, but even that's biased.

That isn't coming up with your own opinion, that's committing a fallacy.

Or just watch neither.

that isn't necessarily what he described, he said watch the two positions and make your own opinion based on the two opinions you analyzed. Basing your opinion also includes dismissing points of view from either side, perhaps dismissing one side altogether.
It's p funny watching people who are wholly ignorant on news media and politics compare MSNBC to Fox News as if they are anywhere near the same league.
This is about the Arabic station which I've heard has virtually become a Qatari propaganda network. Al Jazeera English is run very differently and by-and-large doesn't have these problems, but hey never trust any outlet 100%
Al Jazeera America is launching next month btw
Eric Nisbet, a communications professor at Ohio State University who has studied Arab media and anti-Americanism, says it's important to distinguish between the English and Arabic channels of Al Jazeera. The English channel has a very cosmopolitan perspective and is staffed largely by former corespondents from the BBC and U.S. networks, he says.
The Arabic channel, not surprisingly, is aimed squarely at an Arab audience and prides itself on giving voice to a wide range of perspectives from throughout the region. The result? At times it airs the views of extremists, "sometimes without challenging them as much as they should," Nisbet says. "There are definitely some biases in that they are an Arabic channel for Arab audiences."
And yes, there is anti-Semitism, Nisbet adds. "Unfortunately in Arabic political discourse there is a great deal of anti-Semitism. The conversation there about Israel and American foreign policy is very different from our discourse in the U.S."

But al-Hadj said he expects al-Jazeera America to take a more moderate tone, just as al-Jazeera English has moderated some of the political passions of the Arabic network. “I don’t think they’ll do the same thing” on the American network, he said. “It’s a different audience, and they need a different perspective. They’re not going to make fools of themselves by saying things that are misleading” or strongly partisan.
Philip Seib, author of “The Al Jazeera Effect,” a 2008 book about the network’s influence in the Arab world, concurs. Although the Arabic network “is perceived as strongly pro-Brotherhood,” the American version won’t be, he said.
“I don’t think you’ll see al-Jazeera America touting the Muslim Brotherhood,” Seib said. “It will be more like CNN. They want [the American channel] to be successful, and they know it can’t be a mirror image” of its Arabic and English-language forebears. All three are ”operating in their own political environments.”
Why do Americans even watch the news in their country?
I dont think there is any truly neutral journalistic organization out there (there are a few good journalists out there like Glenn Greenwald).

It's VERY hard to find Internet citizen media that doesn't have an agenda they're trying to push.

Goddamnit News isn't supposed to have a "target audience." Al Jeezera is just as bad as the rest of them.
Associated Press is the only slightly veritable source of news. IMO

Fair enough if you're just misspeaking but then understand you are misspeaking and the thing described is fallacious.
