looks so beautiful in the mid-morning smog
nothing like getting black lung on your way to the beach
something about this seems almost dystopian. Outside the building you have an impoverished majority living in smog and urban congestion, meanwhile there's this artificial ocean paradise filled with those who can afford its niceties.
Still pretty impressive though
Well this little piece of architecture looks just awesome, do chinese finally start to be creative?

I know right it almost feels like the US
Makes me laugh how in the second pic it looks all modern and shit then it has palm trees which look totally out of place.
This seems important enough that they would use it. Its the biggest building in the world after all.
The worlds tallest building currently sits at around 50% occupancy.
"Why in the world would they build this? Don't they already have the worlds largest shopping mall? Which is like 95% abandoned? Not to mention the swaths of ghost towns littering the Chinese landscape... Don't get me wrong, the building is incredible but what is the purpose, especially if it ends up abandoned and underutilized?"

So fucking sick of popsci not working in Australia, fucking ridiculous.

Is there another source for this? Popsci doesn't like Australians.
This is the script I've been using, it should make all images and what not work too. (I've only tested on chrome)
China continues to impress me, I hope they keep this sort of stuff up. Better than hearing about ripped off drones or other military vehicles or about their attempted dick waving
source is down
Hmmm, even though this looks like a fancy building, surely they should be focusing on the welfare of their citizens? Isn't there a situation of relative poverty in China right about now? I've heard of those "cage" apartments and those pod hotels, even if the latter is a bit better than the former.
This will probably bring lots of tourism.

This is worse. At least the drones are actually useful for the military, this will become another dead building. Just another piece of China's ghost penis
I like how the article mentions it could fit twenty Sydney Opera Houses inside of it (at least according to the snippet in the OP), yet the site won't let Australian visitors load the article.

I hate it. It's flashy and idiotic and meanwhile China has 200 Million (!) wandering workers and people live in 3rd-world-like conditions.
Shit like this is not impressive. maybe as technology, but not in relation to the society building it.
When I went there, all people could say is how great it looked.. Noone bothered to think about the struggle of the people and the relentlessness of the government. I went down one road... literally went past 10 construction projects and that's the same in probably all the fast developing cities.
Still... it is a fantastic place. There really is nothing like it.

This building is built in Chengdu, not in the middle of nowhere. But where in the city I don't know.
china huh?
I give it a month.
Considering pretty much everything you use in your day to day life is probably manufactured in China, you should be more trusting.
Not long now.
this will probably get used quite a bit
i mean, china might have issues, but they aren't north korea. people can actually use the things they build
They do actually have issues with lots of unused stuff that gets build.
Wouldn't a building this size end up having its own indoor weather?

Hell, ever leave your county?
I'd not be surprised if you hadn't.
I don't get what he means.. like it'll fall apart because it's made by the Chinese? err..?
I don't know country-based stereotypes that well, forgive me.
Solaire would be proud of this sun

Can't have artificial suns without artificial beaches.
The most incredible thing is it only took one year to build, apparently. Cheap labour helps, I guess.
Why won't popsci work for Australians?
Why won't popsci work for Australians?
Australians only do underground science.
Science they are down under.
Oh yes.

I don't think he ever leaves his room.
My dad's partner comes from Chengdu, I'm sure she'll be interested to hear about this being built in her own home town. Pretty cool feat of engineering I say.
