The volt has a gas generator on board for when you need it.
Problem is, how can I charge up without using gas? There's simply no place to do so.
I like the Volt. First electric car I'd actually want to drive.
You could at the very least say why it's a piece of shit.
You wouldn't want to drive a Tesla?

Go back to chemistry class.

if you dont own a home with a wall outlet you have bigger priorities than a chevy volt

He parks in a parking garage. It says right in the post you quoted.
how to drive a volt in 5 easy steps:
1. start engine
2. get hit by another car
3. fuel for gas generator catches fire
4. firemen arrive
5. firemen cant put out fire because water+lithium ion = bomb
[sp]i wasn't the one who made this up, is this true?[/sp]

oh and the battery dies in 10 years if you use a normal house outlet, 5 if you use a GE(or other brand) quick charger
A fine example of a person that has no knowledge of engineering principles.
i just want an electric car that sounds like a muscle car
seriously the sound is like half the fun
i just want an electric car that sounds like a muscle car

I don't think that would be possible since electric cars have no combustion or exhaust at least from what I heard.

BMW 5 series now pumps in engine audio through the car's sound system.
I'm reading review for the volt and everyone is acting like there will be mass riots or something when gas hits $7.00 a gallon in the U.S.
lol what morons
Unless wages increase to compensate, having to spend approximately twice as much on gasoline per month as they do now is going to screw over a lot of people. I can see where the concern is.
there will be mass riots or something when gas hits $7.00 a gallon in the U.S.
uh you realize that the economy relies on cheap fuel right?

well its just that Europe seems to run just fine on gas that costs double what we pay in america
well its just that Europe seems to run just fine on gas that costs double what we pay in america
You can't really compare the two; Folks in America have to drive a lot further (and possibly more often) than in Europe. We're a very "spread out" country, and having a car is a necessity unless you both live and work in a large city. Hell, I have to travel 13 miles just to get to my job, and I'm getting paid barely above minimum wage. Add on the ~25 miles to get to school and I'm having to spend $50 on gas every week or so. The thought of that cost doubling without my wage increasing to compensate? Fuck that. I don't make enough to survive to begin with!
well its just that Europe seems to run just fine on gas that costs double what we pay in america
Because they have something called High Speed Rail and Public Transit, something that most US cities lack on the same scale as their European rivals.
Also it helps that most Euro style cities are built in a way that promotes walking over say driving everywhere.
The Volt has nothing on Tesla Motors
The Volt has nothing on Tesla Motors
Not like it's meant to.
well its just that Europe seems to run just fine on gas that costs double what we pay in america
and there's 0% difference between europe and america
brilliant why do we even need economists we've got meppers
I don't like the argument people throw out when it comes to public transport, while I agree, we need more buses, the sheer distance it takes to make a long range train viable is way to expensive both upfront and building.
BMW 5 series now pumps in engine audio through the car's sound system.
Only on the M5, and I think it's a bad idea
Maybe if it amplifies the engine note then yeah, but what it currently does is play some fake noises that go with the actual engine.
I don't like the argument people throw out when it comes to public transport, while I agree, we need more buses, the sheer distance it takes to make a long range train viable is way to expensive both upfront and building.
And building a new highway is somehow free with 0 consequences?
Also you should be asking yourself why that train my not be viable in the first place. Why, because urban sprawl! A fantastic combination of cheap housing, the forgotten White flight, and the pursuit of the "american Dream" enabled by the highways along with crazy cheap gas is basically why we are in is pickle.
However, there is a semi easy fix and that is to start building up rather then building out. These new structures would be constructed around bus/rail facilities encouraging transit use and cut down on the need for cars. I say semi because most of the time the rail line needs to go in first before the development can start (2 examples being UTA's Red Line and MUNI's T Third) meaning we need to start looking at the bigger picture and stop pretending that continuing our sprawl is a good thing.

You could probably add some sort of speaker to it like this thing.

I'd imagine there could be a market for this kind of thing on electric cars.
I'll probably stick with my '74 dodge dart for a long time before I decide to get a new car, let alone an electric one which there is a good chance I'll never get, but that's because I've put that together myself, so I'm a bit attached to it along with the fact that cars are more for me than just a way to get around. From what I've seen the volt is quite expensive compared to most similar cars, and a bitch to get parts for if you want to work on it yourself or if you want to get it worked on at a dealership where it would be hugely expensive. I guess if you're super worried about your carbon footprint it's a good idea, but it's definitely not for me.
Hahaha, that picture is all massive, expensive homes and rich white people. AKA the only people that will be driving electric cars for a long time.
Hahaha, that picture is all massive, expensive homes and rich white people. AKA the only people that will be driving electric cars for a long time.
Those houses probably aren't that expensive. Contrary to the rest of the nation, the housing market in Texas isn't shit. Those houses are probably 200 grand, 300 grand tops. Thet'll get you a bedroom and a bathroom in California.
Volt is complete shit if you're going on a roadtrip.
"Oh we ran out of electric! Guess we'll have to haggle with some small business to let us charge up"

I guess you missed the part where it's equipped with a gas generator?
I've been there plenty of times. That neighborhood is freaking Ritzy. My fairy god parents live there. They are all really nice people.
Cant wait this turns out exactly like the EV1, GM's first attempt at a Electric Vehicle.
