i think there have already been 5 examples of that just this week omg white person gets called cracker racism is a 2 way street!
Uh, I think it was like one thread about some people who got beaten by a mob.
For the same reason anyone would pay hundreds of dollars for a watch when the $20 at Wal-Mart works just as well.
..because they think Swag actually exists. :v: [editline]23rd October 2013[/editline]
Uh, I think it was like one thread about some people who got beaten by a mob.
Are you suggesting that racism actually IS a 2 way street? That's racist. -sincerely 1/4 of Facepunch. /sarcasm
..because they think Swag actually exists. :v:
It does. Australians sleep in it.
Are you suggesting that racism actually IS a 2 way street? That's racist. -sincerely 1/4 of Facepunch.
Racism is a two way street. Ability to act on it beyond ultimately picayune ways like beating some random person in the street... is rare to the point of being a class man of bites dog problem. Also, good job confirming what Crazyguns said.
Looks fine
It doesn't look $350 fine.
Straight up stereotyping.
I hate #ju$tice4traytray just as much as the next person but this is clearly racism
So if I say over and over will racists stop using the word? It won't, that much, but making them stop instead will.
I too believe in limiting freedom of speech.
what's the update to the story.?
I too believe in limiting freedom of speech.
that's not at all what I meant but ok I meant downright shunning the word, you can use it indirectly, but it's not really going to change much.
WELL, devils advocate here, he is in fact quite young. The clerk is sheltered and lame for doing such a thing, and the cop was overzealous, but there is a point to this. A $350 belt and a shoestring do the same thing, so for a college student to pay so much is suspicious but not CRIMINALLY suspicious like the cop and the clerk seemed to think. The idea is that they thought the kid was a drug dealer or thief or something. You shouldn't act like this to a mere consideration, but they did and that's the only thing that's stupid about this.
If he was white they probably would not have cared at all.
Sure. No really. Depending on the cop, sure. But you don't kill racism by booting a few cops.
Sure. No really. Depending on the cop, sure. But you don't kill racism by booting a few cops.
the point isn't to kill racism, the point is to get rid of shitlords. police officers who racially profile are bad police officers and absolutely should not be given the power to enforce law.
Ehh, not that it bothers me that much, but could you please just write "a nigger" instead "an N"? I mean, you should never refer to anyone as "nigger", but you're talking about a hypothetical offensive situation where the usage of the word would be the whole point - I don't think anyone is going to take offense from you actually writing the word in that specific context. I won't bash anyone for being respectful, but this is basically the answer to Harry Potter's "You-know-who"-substitute. Be Harry Potter or Dumbledore next time, not some muggler-loving Ron Weasley or Hermione Granger.
Seriously, the only black guy here that could get offended is mzathemind and he's a piece of shit so it's OK [editline]23rd October 2013[/editline]
What the fuck?
It's progress. Normally they'd tell his black ass to get on the ground and shut the fuck up while they search him and grab his balls. And if there's a black cop with a white cop, the black cop will beat on him extra hard to look good
honestly. I mean do people who hate on all of FP for SH even go to other sections? Like maybe the TF2 or Dota 2 sections, or the programming section? All those parts of FP are pretty damn different from each other or SH. SH, fast threads, and videos get too much attention because your eyes drift to that area of the homepage first or someone got bored of the section they registered on FP for, then check out SH, get addicted, and never go back to any other part of FP except for maybe videos.
i stay in sh mostly but like to lurk tf2, general games, and videos.
“how a young black man such as himself could afford to purchase such an expensive belt,” why do I get the feeling no one would care if he was white
I thought that was a quote of a quote. Regardless, perhaps he lives in a mostly black part of town in which most people are poor? [editline]23rd October 2013[/editline] I'm sorry I don't want to justify either the clerk or the cop's reactions, but it's not as ridiculous as some people think this is.

Plainclothes detectives hauled Christian off Fifth Avenue and into the local precinct. There, Christian produced his identification, his debit card from Chase and the receipt with his name on it, the suit states. “In spite of producing such documentation, Christian was told that his identification was false and that he could not afford to make such an expensive purchase.”
they put a kid in handcuffs and interrogated him at a police precinct for no other reason besides the fact that he was black and bought an expensive belt. it absolutely is ridiculous. if you don't want to justify racial profiling then stop trying to.

If I saw a 19 year old-looking kid buying that belt I'd think "that's weird" but nah, in no way does that justify high enough suspicion to actually interrogate him, ignoring the racial profiling
This sounds like the beginning of a bad racist joke. "Hey Jerry, you hear the one about the black kid going to Barney's?" Only the punch line is sad and pathetic...
My favorite part was when he showed them the card he bought it with AND the receipt. Like that's not enough evidence that he bought it or something.
they thought he was a chimney sweeper & they dont make much money at all so thats why they arrested him
$350 for that piece of shit? I think I see an actual crime here
okay sir im sorry sir youre very right sir [editline]23rd October 2013[/editline] it WAS a quote of a quote.
Still, even if it was, kind of makes you think? I've heard stories of people who were black and nice cars get questioned, but it happens to them like, 10 times more than anyone they know that is white :v:
Looks fine
Looks fine but not $350 fine, at least to me.
I was being sarcastic.
Poe's law strikes again, I suppose. Sorry dude.
Someone gets racially profiled and arrested in an absolutely inane and blatantly systematically racist way and everyone is talking about the belt and giving dumbs to the first person to make a relevant and clearly true comment. Good work Facepunch.
No one rated that post dumb, though. This one, however-
