It would be a one-way trip, and the company hopes to build a community of settlers on the planet.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-22146456
Where do I sign up?
I don't know if I'd go. It's a huge decision to make, you'd be permanently cutting yourself off from the people on Earth. No internet, no radio, no TV, no music, no phone calls to loved ones, you'd be reading the same books, and you wouldn't be able to wander far from your lander or risk running out of breathable air. Very little human contact - Aside from the two or three people that'd go with you, you'd never meet a new person again. For every last remaining day of your life.
i keep thinking of that movie pandorum where they leave and it turns out everyone on earth died afterwards
Where do I sign up?
you don't have the gonads
Isn't this a reality TV thing and the company doing it has at no point laid out how they plan on actually making the trip happen
Don't forget the shit-covered walls.
My brother who is an astrophysicist said he would want to do this. Why the hell would you want to leave earth at this point? I can see if it was like 300 years from now and there's a huge city, but never going back to earth would be extremely depressing.
I can see if it was like 300 years from now and there's a huge city, but never going back to earth would be extremely depressing.
They say that people born on Mars (Martians) would never be able to visit Earth because of the differing gravity altering their bone structure.
makes clones
Someone has to put up the first blocks for that major city in 300 years.
Yes, but it shouldn't be a one-way trip. We're pack animals.
Yes, but it shouldn't be a one-way trip. We're pack animals.
I doubt it's going to be a one man mission
Hmm...I wonder if there will be any demons there! [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d7/Doom3Marine.jpg[/t]
i feel that it'd be a lot more realistic if we were to colonize the moon first
i feel that it'd be a lot more realistic if we were to colonize the moon first
This would be me the entire time.
I'd go for it. It's still a chance to do something for the sake of exploration, which I like. If it was possible to view the whole scheme as achievable, we'd receive 4 people every 2 years. Combine that with the research of each individual, and there's a big possibility to exponentially expand research and design plans for a full-on mars colony.
i feel that it'd be a lot more realistic if we were to colonize the moon first
Even if we colonized the moon first, it's still a giant leap toward Mars regardless.
Someone has to put up the first blocks for that major city in 300 years.
Yeah but we can wait until we have reliable transport back and forth from Mars before we start construction Going to Mars isn't going to make our rockets any better so let's develop those first
I wouldn't sign up based on the simple fact they're not taking a nuclear reactor for power. Solar power will fail eventually and I honestly don't think I'd like to be without an energy source for extended periods of time. Even if batteries fail, you can still use nuclear power 24/7. And oddly enough, energy is required to run life-support systems.
They say that people born on Mars (Martians) would never be able to visit Earth because of the differing gravity altering their bone structure.
if we have the technology to reliably live on mars, and then travel back and forth, then no doubt we would have cybernetic limb enhancements for martians who want to go to earth.
I doubt it's going to be a one man mission
It won't be, but I'd get sick to shit of even the same two hundred or three hundred people until the day I die. And more likely it'll be no more than ten.
I'd still go, even though I have no field of study worth taking on for such a trip.
I wouldn't want to go, I have too many videos to edit, too many events to attend, too many short films to make and too much movies to watch.
If I were to go it'd be right before I die. Cause if I'm not coming back, I might as well see it all for like a year or something and then die.

What's it matter if it's in a few months or a few years or a few decades in the bigger perspective?
