Oh god please yes
They should get Rom Di Prisco (who worked on UT3's music) to actually make some of the music he used to make too, cos he'd be a nice addition if he made some old style UT music instead of the new boring orchestrated
now we just need Tero Kostermaa, Kai-Eerik Kompaa, and the rest of the old crew, and it will be FUCKING GLORIOUS

Hi!
My name is Michiel van den Bos and one of the two main composers for the original Unreal and Unreal Tournament. It's been a while and my memory's a bit foggy, but my music has been featured in classic maps like Curse][, Codex, Facing Worlds, Tempest and many others. I've been composing for games ever since, including the universally praised soundtrack for Age of Wonders 3.
I'm writing here because I was getting messages and e-mails telling me I should, due to the announcement of the new UT.
I was wondering if there is any interest in me getting involved and I'm sure I can get Alex to join in too.
If so, I'd be happy to continue a discussion here or off-forum at mikebossmusic[at]gmail.com.
Thank you for your attention and best regards,
Michiel van den Bos
OH YEAH!
Holy shit yes. I mostly prefer Kevin Riepl's work, but Michiel is freaking good, too.

Hope hoverboards come back hoverboard racing mods yay
Plus, you know, they may require everyone else to have the mod as well to play on the server.
I'd wager it'll be a setup where player models would download to all players in a server, but the server itself has to be running any gamechangers like weapon, gamemode, physics stuff, etc. Why would anybody assume it'd just be a sandbox free-for-all where you spawn all your own weapons and crap
homer skins everywhere
just like ut99
Let me get this straight:
Before we would buy a game, then moders would use free tools to mod it, and make free mods.
Now we will get a free game, moders will have to pay a subscription fee to mod it(UE4) and then they would sell those mods via some market place.
Basically the thing many people praise as the best part of PC gaming "free mods" is where the originals devs plan to get all the money from ?
Michiel,
Of course we would be thrilled to have you and Alex involved in this project! The music you guys made always invokes tremendous nostalgia for me - I'm always instantly transported back to playing UT. How are you interested in participating?

It is confirmed for happening.

if you buy 1 month and cancel after that you keep UE4 indefinitely, sans updates, marketplace, and support. $20 and you're set, and that's barring the fact it's open source and there were probably pirated releases out a week after release
EPIC isn't making any gain in money off of unreal. It's not a microtransaction machine, they're providing a space for modders to upload data to an official market, and sell if they so choose. We've already seen the market system with UE4, which contains free objects and foreshadows a pre-made weapon set to use in your games for a price.

Where EPIC will benefit from this is that it gives gamers a huge, HUGE reason to dabble with their engine technology. When talking of markets like this, there's going to be competition. What sets you above your competition is a very simple factor- People already know your software and would prefer to use it than learn something new from scratch.
this is why Adobe has always been super lax about piracy of photoshop and such- it puts their product in the hands of a lot of people, who then get to know it. When you end up in a job later that requires editing software, knowing the product is a huge bonus to employers when it's a necessary skill. What's more is that it's a necessary skill because it's now an industry standard
the new unreal tournament is a great move for them as a business. They're providing a great service to gamers, modders, aspiring devs, and the future of the small studio game industry, which ensures more games will be created and put out using their publishing terms, returning them money when the content is successful.
I Sincerely hope they have the bulky UT99 enforcer back, along with the awesome looking minigun and shock rifle
If not I at least hope they have the UT99 weaps as some sort of mod
Are they actually setting this up to be the best UT game yet?
Having all the badass composers, Game being absolutely free(more players) and moddable. Now our only worry is the gameplay itself.
but what about mah hats!
the way tf2 does freemium is so good, except for the "you must buy 1 thing" rule
still this'll give everybody's favorite hat-simulator a run for its money, i just hope its availible through steam
Yes fucking brilliant.
The way to put King.com and all these shitty exploitative companies out of business is to basically just make really good, fully free versions of their games, with no Paywalls, DLC, ads, etc.
It'd be an initially costly sacrifice to whoever does it, but it would be worth it to put those shit companies out of business and restore things to how they were prior to this bullshit that happened.
You'd be forever known as the saviour of the games industry, get tons of media attention (to promote your other paid titles?), and shit tons of people (including all of the top developers of the last two decades) would love you for it.
Man I hope there is a Morpheus remake. That was my favourite map of all time. I don't know why just something about it I loved. Fuck I want to play some UT99 right now
