Just how bad is the situation in Northern Ireland? I read up on The Troubles but is this that out of hand?
At the moment, it's nothing like the troubles. With the Queens visit there would obviously be trouble. Most of it is caused by people who just want to cause riots etc but have no understanding of what is really going on. As for the "real IRA" they're a bunch of twats!
Seriously? You're gonna blow up a little old lady over "war crimes"? She's a fucking logo for the country, not the one making orders
Not just the war crimes, England has been screwing over Ireland for the past 8 hundred years, only really stopping within the last 40/50 years. The IRA nowadays has split into a few different groups, the RIRA, the CIRA, I can't really remember them, they're not much of a threat, but still recognisable. The Queen's route went past my estate, all the public bins got removed along the route, all the drains tarred shut, guards all around the place. To be honest I'm against the visit, costs us like 30 million or something just so some little old lady can risk getting blown up, and the possibility of better trade relations with Britain in future.
There are 2 branches, the "real" IRA who are slightly more passive and made up of conservative IRA members and the "Provisional" IRA which accounted for many of the attacks during The Troubles. Arguably though the real IRA have more experience and are thus more dangerous than their provisional counterparts.
There are more than 2 factions.
Heard about that one today. Saw helicopters above Dublin whole day. They say they stopped whole tram on red line because of those bomb things.
Well if she didn't listen when irish asked her, then they have to bomb her.
You are from Latvia, do not speak for us.
It was a fucking pain getting out of town because off all this, and my cousin was on Dorset Street during the riots, and he said it was pretty mental. I admit I was nervous about something serious happening, but the riots are a joke. Scumbags making an excuse to set some bins on fire.
What I don't get is why they didn't think this through. If they had succeeded, sure, they'd kill the Queen, but in the long-run they would have brought a shit storm upon themselves.
It may be that they are sending a message.
Sending a message only for them to get pummeled afterward. Then I suppose they'd bitch about that too.

We got school cancelled today, they say they blocked off whole Dublin 8 area allowing no cars, and some say that people from flats have to have pass to get in our out. A bit mad.
