I really don't care. No one wants to talk to me unless I'm in school. Edit: Off Topic: Why do you guys say maths? HOW do you even say maths?
We say "Maths" because Mathematics is plural and when shortened the "s" should stay there. Also, you say it the way it's spelt. Looks like you could spend some more time in school.
Obama is doing everything in his power to not get re-elected..
This isn't the solution. Obama and everyone in the U.S. government need to realize that making the school days longer isn't going to fix anything. The U.S. needs quality education, not more of the same shit. I mean, let's say that education is like food. The food at the moment is about to be (or already is) expired; it's moldy, unhealthy, sickly, and has an overall bad quality to it. Now, the best thing to do is to obtain better quality food, but what the Obama Administration is doing (metaphorically) is getting more of this terrible-quality food and forcing the U.S. youth to feed on it. Honestly, in my opinion, they need to reform the education system. There's so many things wrong with it.
No, it implies that they don't want to go even more than they already do.
Which still implies they want to go even the slightest bit.
I'm all for this. Hell, we should just get rid of summer break entirely!
I hope this passes so now everyone won't forget everything they learned and then have to re-learn it the first months in school
Don't be a pussy. Throw a book at him.
Ironic that you say that, because if he gets really pissed at one of us, he throws a marker at that person.
I agree with EMA :D
I might do too if the government was giving me 90 quid a month to spend on crap unrelated to college work. Edit: No personal jibes there by the way... Edit: Just been informed it can be up to 120 quid a month.
I agree with EMA :D
I agree with it I just think the income bracket it applies to needs to be increased
Obama is doing everything in his power to not get re-elected..
At least he's doing what he thinks is right.
Which still implies they want to go even the slightest bit.
No, not really. Their dislike in going to school gets even worse.
At least he's doing what he thinks is right.
How is what he's doing right? He's forcing kids to go to a shitty, broken school system for even longer, rather than fixing it like he should be instead.
Not a bad idea actually. The longer kids are out of school, the more they forget from that year.
How long is the US summer holiday anyways?
School is good for you, if you don't want a good job when you are older, just leave now.
How long is the US summer holiday anyways?
About 3 months.
There really is more of a problem with the education system than there is with those in it, though both have their problems. I'm a senior right now and my school barely has enough money to even be open. Admittedly, there are a lot of people at my school that simply don't care but that's because none of the teachers care. The teachers here don't care because it's basically impossible to get fired once you've been teaching for 2 years because, although this used to be the best place for a teacher to work, teachers (and firefighters) didn't have a contract until they borderline went on strike (legally, city workers can't strike but the union was getting really bad) last year. Say what you will, but extending school days and shortening summer vacations will increase debt more than it will the amount kids learn (especially in my school district).
I already only have an average of 4 hours free time any day during the week. While I agree we need more schooling, if you're going to do it, don't add more to the length of the school day, just lengthen the year, or even better, dot he year-round program with 1-2 week breaks more frequently, replacing summer and shortening the time off by a few weeks. The reason I like summer is because I need a break from school, life's hectic and school is challenging. If I get a job,t hat's another thing to add to my list. Breaks are necessary for me to continue to work productively. It doesn't need to be 3 or 4 months, though, nor all at once. I'd happily sacrifice a few weeks of summer break to replace it with more frequent shorter breaks.
4 hours is a ton of free time youre not going to get a job during the summer even if you say you are youre probably 12 and life isnt hectic for you compared to lots of people
How long is the US summer holiday anyways?
50 weeks. 2 weeks in school.
How long is the US summer holiday anyways?
About 2 and a half months depending on the state.
Obama is doing everything in his power to not get re-elected..
Kids can't vote.
How long is the US summer holiday anyways?
Depends on state laws and varies from school to school but usually from early June until early September.
I might do too if the government was giving me 90 quid a month to spend on crap unrelated to college work. Edit: No personal jibes there by the way...
I'm using that 90 quid to pay for your dedicated server you foon :P
I like the of keeping the school up till 7 though ONLY if the extra hours are not manditory. Just for kids who want to stay. The issue is that drop out rates in the US are already high enough. Removing a chunk of Summer break will just make people not come on the days of summer vacation that were removed or overall just make people drop out even more.
Let's not forget the teachers. I know a lot of teachers around here spend hours after (and sometimes before) school preparing lesson plans and attending meetings on top of all the shit they catch from kids who don't care and parents who are completely batshit insane. There are bad teachers, but skill varies in any profession from person to person.
To be honest, I'm sort of for it so that we can get more smarter and that kind of thing, but I'm against it because I don't like school. I guess the benifets outweigh the downturns.
I'm using that 90 quid to pay for your dedicated server you foon :P
Which is why I said no personal jibes :D
My School is a Privately Owned School, we have to pay for loads of shit like Uniform, books, etc... and we learn properly. Answer to America's problem = Pay money to school.
This just in; Youth popularity for Obama has just dropped by 80%, more on this later.
Which is why I said no personal jibes :D
I think it's already personal...
Or they could have good teachers like my teachers? My History Teacher is barking mad and we enjoy lessons with him. My Maths Teacher is Irish so we just bully her. My English Teacher goes on for the whole lesson, we don't mind that, she's a good teacher. My Science Teacher keeps us Entertained.
Our chemistry teacher was nuts and always wanted to blow something up every lesson. How she got the job I don't know, but we all passed chemistry with flying colours :P
