• Obama May Cut Summer Vacations Short

You can't fix something just by throwing time at it, you have to actually improve it. We need better teachers and equipment, not more time with morons who don't know what they're talking about and crap that doesn't work. To start, math classes need to be completely overhauled to actually become mathematics education.
Don't get your fancy Latin on me Lankist!
If I could pass spanish for latin I would definitely say something witty.
i wonder if obama knows that alot of the kids who he is cutting summer for are going to be voting in the next election
Maybe for once someone can act in the will of the nation instead of his own reelection interests?
Quality losses can be attributed to having to shove more lectures into less class time.
Hour long classes are bullshit.
My family is white bro. I was adopted.
But your still mexican. You will never be white, bro.
Doesn't matter since you have to be 18 to vote anyway, not like voting numbers will be down. If anything they will be up since most parents will agree with it.
Yeah, good luck with that. No American public school teacher gives a shit.
You really, really need to stop making sweeping generalizations, using them makes your arguments fall flat and in turn make you look foolish. I had nothing but good experiences with my school teachers, and every single one of my high school teachers cared. Some of them even came in at the ridiculously early hours, just to work with a pupil who needed help - I know, I did it a few times for my math and chemistry classes. My calculus teacher actually stopped his lesson plans for a few days because the majority of the class wasn't understanding a certain concept, and focused on that one concept with extensive examples and even one-on-one help during regular class time. Entire class passed that chapter test with at least a B. That being said, there are a lot of public school teachers out there that obviously do not need to be in the positions they occupy, but certainly not every single teacher falls under not giving a shit.

Nobody wins.
i wonder if obama knows that alot of the kids who he is cutting summer for are going to be voting in the next election
yes heaven forbid we do something to anger the children. simmer down kid. you're young enough to spank.
If I could pass spanish for latin I would definitely say something witty.
I think "Me tire a tu madre" is a good insult.
Hour long classes are bullshit.
What are you talking about? The standard short class is 50 minutes, some schools do longer.
I honestly wouldn't mind having the school year being longer, but they have to improve quality in schools as well or else it is pretty much just wasted time. It's like food. If you have bad-quality food (expired, moldy, etc), you get better-quality food, you don't get more bad-quality food to fill your stomach.
I've got two years, and like I've said, I wouldn't mind a shortened summer. I wouldn't like a lengthened school day much, and would actually prefer eliminating summer and just adding a few week long breaks every now and then instead (still shortening the break time by like 4 weeks). We need more education. It's sad when you're the kid with a basic general knowledge of politics, history, and math, most of which you were taught in school, but everyone acts like you're the smartest person alive.
I agree with this. The problem with long summers is it's too too long a time without any teaching at all, so by the time they go back they've often forgotten everything. Longer school days I don't agree with because kids can't really concentrate for all that long.
But your still mexican. You will never be white, bro.
S'kinda true, I was like the only minority in my grade level. Not that anybody really took note because I fit in with white people given how I still listen to Styx and Rush. I am a poor excuse for a mexican.
your We're both generalizing. Nobody wins.
its that public education i aint got fancy book learnin like you
ha well its a good thing this is my last year of school and in fact i am probably not going to vote for him in 2012
What are you talking about? The standard short class is 50 minutes, some schools do longer.
Hour long, 50 minutes long, same thing. We need shorter classes, not longer.
not because of this, but because i think he's a horrible president
My family is on about £6k per year, but the government said i cant have EMA because of some bullshit technicality they pulled on me.
My family is over the boundary for EMA, yet of course my parents can't afford to give me 30 quid a week and I wouldn't want them to. Should get a job.
Hour long, 50 minutes long, same thing.
No, it's not. An hour is 60 minutes, so, thus, it is not the same thing.
My classes are about 45 minutes. :v: But then again, we need the 5 extra minutes to get to our next class, as my school is laid out like a college campus.
I left because I got into a fight with a kid like four years younger than me. I mean fuck that's how we did it at every other school I'd been to, some little shit calls you a pussy and you hit them on the mouth. This kid went crying to daddy and I got a week suspension. Bullshit. And the kids were DUMB too. They would spend all day fucking around in class and the teachers couldn't do SHIT because the kids' parents were filthy rich and paying for half of the school's shit. Meanwhile I, from the family barely scraping by on payments, got the blame for fucking everything. I got a better education from public school than I did in private. Nobody took anybody's shit there, that's what we need.
You could have just spoken with the principal or someone and put a stop to it, you know. You shouldn't have been suspended, it could have been avoided. [sp]Somehow I predict I'm going to regret posting this...[/sp]
No, it's not. An hour is 60 minutes, so, thus, it is not the same thing.
55 minutes of class time, 5 minutes to get to the next class.
Who here is a child psychologist raise your hands.
I find it funny how fast people are posting. It seems Facepunch really is a bunch of 15 year olds complaining about school. The countries that are doing so well like India and China do so because of the intense amount of studying their students do. America has a superiority complex right now, we seem to think that since we are "the best nation in the world" we don't need to study as much, since we are already on top. Shits going to hit the fan in a few years America.

[sp]Somehow I predict I'm going to regret posting this...[/sp]
But, you have to remember that that was a private school. The principal is being paid from those "filthy rich" people, too.
My classes are about 45 minutes. :v: But then again, we need the 5 extra minutes to get to our next class, as my school is laid out like a college campus.
you're lucky, my classes are an hour and a half long
You could have just spoken with the principal or someone and put a stop to it, you know. You shouldn't have been suspended, it could have been avoided. [sp]Somehow I predict I'm going to regret posting this...[/sp]
Public schooling is awesome. Everyone shouts out nigger left and right and everyone's practically in a gang. Every other day there's some sort of minor fight, typically verbal. But every now and then we get lucky: someone actually starts a fistfight. Shit's the bomb, man. Oh wait that's just Memphis.
How about instead of quantity, why not increase the quality?
oh shut up, you kids have it alot easier these days. There's noting fucking wrong with the quality of teaching or the education, it's the fucking students. . How do I know this? When I come to a school for a job fair, teaching kids about construction, and periodically go to classrooms to see how it is, do I see kids trying their best to pass school? Working hard? Or even paying attention? No. They're too busy sleeping, day-dreaming, lost in thought, not paying attention, talking to friends about irrevelant things, and etc. Go ahead, rate me dumb, but you know this is true. Seriously, kids fucking piss me off. OH DURF HURF, SCHOOL IS SO HARD, NOW IT'S LONGER, BITCH BITCH. Do you kids realize you have an oppurtinity to get something some kids would die for? Kids in Africa, Somalia, Middle Eastern countries, and etc would do anything to get education, yet you guys are taking this education for granted. Grow the fuck up and stop bitching.
