Knowing the day before the month just doesn't make sense.

its the 14th
only 11 days till christmas!
no it's july
oh you should've said that first
Firstly, if someone is confused about what day it is, I'm pretty sure they'd know that Christmas is five months off unless they've just awoken from a coma
cooking =/= baking
I learned basically the inverse when it comes to baking from my mother, and from my girlfriend(who is a trained pastry chef) that baking is about measurement and being pretty exact with things. There's some fudging room but it's largely a delicate matter. The other thing I learned is that going by the texture and appearance of the mixed ingredients would really help you find the balance you're talking about there if your measurements were off in the first place.
I just imagine baking being cakes, bread and stuff as opposed to making spaghetti, pasta, etc hence what you see in a bakery.
The people complaining about dates need to have their head checked.
ITS FUCKING DATES.
I'm pretty sure the whole dates thing is less of an opinion and more of "i was raised using this way so it makes more sense" so i'm not even sure what there is to argue about
not to mention liquid measurement

this blows my fucking mind
Two things:
1.) That chart has laid out the measurements in the most silly way you possibly could
2.) Those measurements are for cooking, and were created based on ease of application to food, not by factor of ten. Their relationships make them easier to eyeball when you have measurement utensils as well.

That chart is actually really well laid out.
The lines go from unit to unit based on how it converts to it.

It makes sense if you completely ignore the graphics and just pay attention to the numbers. Which sort of defeats the point of a chart, no?
Celsius makes more sense to me in daily life, but that just might be because I was raised with it.
Fahrenheit in comparison seems kind of arbitrary. Sure, low values = really cold, but by what standard? Celsius' zero degrees "water starts freezing" is a great benchmark. The upper limit makes less sense, considering the boiling point of water at sea level really isn't something people deal with on a day by day basis, but in the Netherlands we have a standard called "tropical", which is 30°C. A day where the max. temperature reaches 30 degrees Celsius (at the main measuring site) is considered Tropical by the national weather institute.
On the lower end, a minimum temperature of -10°C is considered "severe frost", and -15°C is "very severe frost".
So really, Zero Degrees is more like the center of the scale, rather than the bottom end of it. Arguably "room temperature" is the center of the scale, but at that point you just start going into arbitrary values again, and the system really is no better for day to day life than Fahrenheit. What people consider a comfortable living temperature differs from person to person and from geographical area to geographical area. Take the Brits for instance, and how they start dying when temperatures reach tropical values. People around the Mediterranean laugh their asses off. But then when the temperatures start dropping, they curl up next to the radiator with a warm drink, while Brits are going for a walk in shorts and a t-shirt. There's nothing more subjective than the weather.
That's actually a good thing.
I do everything in metric, but imperial is good for poetics, flowing speech, and guesstimates. If someone asked me how far away something is I'd use kilometres if I knew the exact figure but say miles if I'm using a fluff word like "about" or "a couple". Just try singing 500 Miles but say kilometres instead :v:
why are muricans still using imperial anyway? it's a retarded system
The people that use the system the most. (Scientist and Engineers) already almost exclusively use metric in the USA. The only thing that is still Imperial in these fields are rifle bore's and chain pitches. As they sadly have become a standard in the metric world as well.
12 inches = 1 foot. I mean that is literally the best part of imperial.
12 inches = 1 foot. I mean that is literally the best part of imperial.
If all the units were split into twelves, that would be fucking amazing.
When things are split into ten, you can easily divide it into halves, quarters and fifths. If they're split into twelves, you can split them in halves, quarters, sixths and thirds. Who the fuck ever uses a fifth of a meter or really a fifth of anything? A third of something is really useful though. I want a base twelve metric system.

Nowmally we just use shit like "20cm" for 1/5 metres, and "~33cm" for 1/3 metres.
I remember a beautiful story of how a million-dollar international project was bunked because some parts were made in Europe and others in the US. Needless to say, the parts didn't fit, and when the project was launched, it all fell apart, costing millions of dollars.
I just find the Metric system to make more logical sense.
Y/M/D for life
fit's perfectly with H/M/S
In speech is a different story though, yeah. But in speech you don't have to worry about confusing ass dates like 07/07/07
12 inches = 1 foot. I mean that is literally the best part of imperial.
Oh cool, whose foot? I know of girls with a shoe size of 35 (US 4; 8 3⁄16"), but I have a 45 (US 11.5; 11 1⁄8"). And in your post you say it's 12 inches, which here would be a size 50, something I've never heard anyone wear (and definitely not a standard or average size).
Another problem of a subjective measuring system.

How is that a confusing date? It's the same no matter which system you're using, lol.

Except an imperial foot is a unit of measurement, a specific length and not in any interpretation ever subjective?
You do know what a unit of measurement means, right?
Metric > Imperial
DD/MM/YYYY > MM/DD/YYYY
24:00 > 12:00 AM/PM
The systems are just more logical. I really wish everyone would switch to them.

nothing wrong with any choice of timestamping
I know people who struggle with 12hr from Europe
but understanding both was a part of my education

The benefit of using base 10 is you don't have to use fucking fractions to be precise. No one would say "a fifth of a metre" they'd say 20cm.
"Aw fuck, 5 Km? What is that in miles?"
"...Oh. That's not bad at all."
Some ppl in this thread are very smug and like to throw their opinions around like facts. Its hilarious watching them try to convince people they are actually smart
People whether exposed to imperial or metric have a unique understanding of that very system they were exposed to. Im a fucking stupid american, which means i have a better time visualizing a persons height in feet, and a dumbells weight as lbs, or a bag of weed as oz. Compared to the non american who was exposed to metric. MM/DD/YY is much easier for me to interpret cause i was more exposed to it. You saying DD/MM/YY is better "because it makes sense" is like me saying the the same thing with the other dating formats. Yes its a fact that metric is more standardized and easier to divide and multiply, but some people will still hate on it cause they hate facts.
as a potsmoker, I can do coversions from grams to ounces in my head, but I still don't like it

As a notsmoker anything that's not kg<->lbs I actually can't really do. Then again I'm terrible with ounces to begin with too, lol.

I am now convinced that there is a ghost going around and possessing every single non-american internet pedant into typing this inane fucking phrase in every discussion even REMOTELY related to the Imperial system. Yes, we get it. Imperial sucks, the conversions are dumb. Almost every American knows this already. Do you think Hillary fucking Clinton is going to read your post on Facepunch dot com and realize "oh shit, I never realized!" And then run out of the oval office screaming about how we're behind the curve and enact an executive order to immediately change our systems?

"the Imperial system is stupid" is an opinion (arguably a fact!). "why dun chang yet?" is not an opinion
Maybe I'm late but I use month/day/year because that's how you say it in conversation: July 16, 2016.

Whoever laid out the chart for Imperial did it specifically to be like "LOOK HOW CONFUSING IT IS OMG"
3 teaspoons to a tablespoon
2 cups to a pint, 2 pints to a quart, 4 quarts to a gallon.
Isn't that easy?
And why are the fractional sizes of cups even on the chart? Why is it a surprise that there are fractions of a cup? Why not have a bunch of asinine multiples of milliliters in the other column?
