This thread reminds me of the British thread on GD during brexit. Good times.
Your answer is perfectly valid, that's fine. It just bothers me when they just instantly choose Canada over Mexico when they say "omg omg Trump is winning, better pack my shit and move over to Canada". It gets pretty old and I'd like more insight about it, that's all. [editline]2nd November 2016[/editline] Ok, absolutely no interest in learning another language. Lazy as hell, but fair enough. Unless you're ready to learn some French if you move over to Canada, yes?
Canada just makes more sense than Mexico for the average American. Compared to Mexico, Canada is more economically stable, has a higher quality of life, excellent social systems, better (universal) healthcare, very low crime rates, little/no language barrier, and a more familiar culture. As long as you're an Average Joe American fleeing the country, Canada certainly seems to be the more attractive choice on paper.
Forget about national polls, they mean nothing. Take this electoral map from RCP, which is far more conservative than 538, and add New Hampshire, Colorado and Nevada into the list. Boom Clinton wins the election.
"Leans" is important. imo Trump is probably going to get at least one of those Great Lake States (except definitely not New York purely because of NYC).
Yeah québécois French is spoken in 1 province in the nation. English is spoken every where else and no where are you mandated to learn both Grasp harder [editline]1st November 2016[/editline] Why would people move to the country most adversely affected by a Trump presidency? You're being so disingenuous preta
As someone who was born and raised in the USA but currently lives in Montreal, you can get by just fine with only being able to speak english. Suburbs and outlying cities are more solidly francophone but that's not where the jobs tend to be anyway. also it's pretty misleading to say QC is the only province that speaks french. The whole country runs a spectrum between the two languages, with alberta and BC being the most anglophone in my experience.
Like a Pence presidency would be any more preferable to a Trump one.
Yeah I don't know if everyone will agree; but if it came down to it, I'd rather have Trump.
Actually having lived in Texas, I can tell you it is pretty Purple. It's more of the district lines on why it votes the way it does.
If Texas is anything like New Mexico, it'll be more liberal in the larger cities (Houston, Austin, etc.) and more conservative out in Bumshart, Nowhere. (Muleshoe, Sudan, Lubbock)
Why Canada and not Mexico? Is there anything wrong with Mexico?
I like my head between my shoulders.
Reposting
His strong stance on illegal immigration. The amount of illegals that come in to this country is atrocious. It cost the federal and state governments $110 BILLION a year in services to "take care" of these people who shouldn't even be here in the first place. And no, they do not pay in taxes more than they take out. Also his strong stance on trade. Free trade has done nothing but hurt American workers because of countries like China, Vietnam, Mexico, and other countries that have significantly less regulations and workers rights than the US does that make the cost of labor so cheap we can't even compete. I'm a conservative as well so stuff like his stance on guns, abortion, and all that I like.
what the fuck are you arguing about like seriously the cultural differences between canada and the us are tiny, the cultural differences between the us and mexico are a lot larger
Ok, absolutely no interest in learning another language. Lazy as hell, but fair enough. Unless you're ready to learn some French if you move over to Canada, yes?
why are you being a condescending cunt about people preferring to be able to fluently communicate with the vast majority of the population instead of spending years with a language barrier that makes it very hard to communicate with the vast majority of the population
I like my head between my shoulders.
I too like to have a noggin to shitpost and strawman all day. Not all of Mexico is a cartel haven, stop with the retarded stereotypes.
All this article really proves is how important November 8 is going to be. Please, when the day comes, go out and vote. Regardless of the outcome, you're going to feel stupid if you do nothing.
Doesnt Quebec have language laws to keep the region french?
Yeah the primary language is french but most people I've encountered speak both.
All this article really proves is how important November 8 is going to be. Please, when the day comes, go out and vote. Regardless of the outcome, you're going to feel stupid if you do nothing.
I already voted. Im not happy with the candidate I choose.
Can a Clinton supporter please outline to me what positives they see in a Clinton presidency without mentioning Trump?
Socially regressive nitwits are kept farther from having any sovereignty over the basic human rights of the American populous, for one.
Doesnt Quebec have language laws to keep the region french?
Bill 101 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charter_of_the_French_Language
The fundamental French language rights in Quebec are: The right to have the civil administration, the health services and social services, the public utility enterprises, the professional corporations, the associations of employees and all enterprises doing business in Quebec communicate with the public in French. (article 2) The right to speak French in deliberative assemblies. (article 3) The right of workers to carry on their activities in French. (article 4) The right of consumers to be informed and served in French. (article 5) The right of persons eligible for instruction in Quebec to receive that instruction in French. (article 6)
In case people think this is patriotic, yes it is. In case people think that this is extreme and racist, no it isn't. "The right to" doesn't mean that everything must be in french. It just means that french is a forced option.

People still die from sandstorms and get excited about going to their first Target over there. The only major city in Texas that is a odd ball is probably Houston. Austin is liberal but also houses some of the craziest conservatives because it is the capital, and Dallas is pretty much moderate with the mid-cities representing different extremities.

It has a 57% higher suicide rate than the state average. It's a horrible place with about as much tourism value as salt flats. Genuinely the worst city I've ever had the displeasure of visiting. But Austin is full of degenerates, of course. Knowing you, I'll just assume you're talking about the gay population and the liberals protesting outside of the capitol and leave it at that. Won't it be fun when the dirty spics turn Texas blue in 2020?
Damn! I won't even bother voting, I guess it's over. I'm going to go learn French so I can get into Canada easier. it was fun guys, don't worry about me. [editline]1st November 2016[/editline] My chances of getting beheaded on a livestream then thrown onto a highway or school playground are significantly higher in Mexico than in Canada. S'all im sayin bruh.
Another Texas Tech student here, sounds like you couldn't hang. Lubbock is absolutely fine. No idea where you got the idea it was backwards. Sure as hell beats the degeneracy that is downtown Austin.
I actually have a huge respect for the faculty there (not so much the student body), and understand why people like it, but man it sucks if you have lived in the DFW area with alot to do to be stuck out in Lubbock. Especially back when I didn't drink alcohol. There is simply nothing to do there. Also I literally had classes where I got free grades from a TA cause I wasn't drunk/hungover for a lab. Even had one guy get kicked out of a English Rhetoric class for turning all his papers under the name Obama, and he wouldn't stop it despite the professor telling him he can't pass a Rhetoric class without actually being able to write his name on a paper. But yeah common complaints of Lubbock/TTU: - Shit floods after only 15 minutes of rain cause there is no proper drainage and it is flat as fuck out there. - McDermott dorms were literally the shittiest place to live in if you actually cared about school. Fun to get random police raids and people banging your door at 4am to get in a drunk fist fight with you, but they actually were looking for the dorm next to me. Friend had his dorm flooded for 2 days before anyone finally came to fix it. - Don't drink the local water, the calcium build up will give you kidney stones. - People talk about how if you want good shopping you gotta drive 3-5 hours for Dallas or Santa Fe. Cause they even know it sucks there. - Boring food. - Speeding tickets/warning out the ass if you even go remotely 7+ mph on the highways out of the city. Even had a officer pull me for like my 5th warning, and have my Chinese friend get all his papers out to make sure he wasn't an "illegal." I made friends and could hang, but it wasn't anything special at all compared to where I have traveled to or my home city. The biggest positive was that Texas Tech has the best Humans vs Zombies event I ever seen. But then the city has one of the worst STD rates in the country soooooo... I don't know why some people are thinking of fleeing to Montreal in case the election goes wrong. Go somewhere else. Montreal is run by an incompetent mayor and Quebec is run by a bunch of corrupted right-wing hooligans.
I would flee to New Zealand if Clinton is elected. Great if you don't want a nuke to land near you. Learned it from Kim Dotcom.

We're also flat as fuck (Eastern New Mexico/West Texas region on the high-plains), windy as hell, sandier than Trump's asshole, and completely devoid of anything interesting unless you like archaeology, then there's Black Water Draw + the related museum. (BWD is also where Clovis Man was found)
I would flee to New Zealand if Clinton is elected. Great if you don't want a nuke to land near you. Learned it from Kim Dotcom.
I get that you are joking but the "Clinton is going to start WW3" meme is pretty dumb.
Jfc i just realized the DMV gave me the wrong voter card when I renewed my Driver's license. It says SR instead of JR. Most of my problems have come from sharing my dad's name, but now I'm not sure if I can fix this in time.
"Degeneracy" in what sense?
Austin is the epitome of change for the sake of change and protest "culture" getting riled up over nothing and yelling in public thinking they are actually changing anything, full of people who think "progressive" but are ultimately regressive. It being the "live music capitol of the world" invites low quality indie garbage starbucks tier music that does more noise pollution than an airport ever could. It being the campus of UT at Austin just adds the amount of young people who feel the reason to complain about things and fills the city with what some circles might call nu-males. The recent Cocks not Glocks "protest" is what still sticks out in my mind currently. I would complain about the drunkenness and hooliganism that occurs on 6th street, but it's a street with nothing but bars so what can I expect, I see the potential for fun there, but maybe it's just not my thing.
Are you joking? I had to spend a week in Lubbock and it was one of the most unbelievably boring weeks of my life. It has a 57% higher suicide rate than the state average. Lubbock is a quaint place, I wouldn't ever recommend it as a tourist destination and don't think that determines its merit. Lubbock is very much a fun place if you find fun people, sorry you're boring.
I've never once heard that bit about the drinking water, not saying you may be wrong, just never heard it in my years there. Rest of your complaints are pretty spot on, the flooding is the worst but I found it novel, but certainly a hassle. Can't defend the shopping. I never really found the food boring, Josie's burning down was a tragedy though.
The fact that Donald Trump has gotten this far tells us that something is very wrong with the mental state of many people in the US. This has gone from a dumb joke to a very real and threatening problem. We are very concerned. Regards, The Rest Of The World.
