It's important to note that it's difficult to make a distinction between those that really think this and those that act that way out of fear. If they all genuinely believed in this, there would be no defectors.
well obviously, but it's completely incorrect to say north koreans wouldn't resist at all while many have defected, it's a good bet that a majority actually believe the propaganda
I can't tell from the article if they're telling the people to be calm or if they're telling NK to be calm. Either way it almost seems like a façade. To compare, it's a bit like a bully saying he'll beat you up and everyone tells you "don't worry about him, he's just looking for a reaction" and before you know it the guy's throwing punches.
Problem is, he's that fat dude who sits in his basement all day in his run-down house and is punching Olympic wrestlers. And one of those wrestlers gets off on beating the snot out of other smaller brown wrestlers. Not going to go well for NK if they ever try anything.
I guess it's time to suit up.

[editline]8th March 2013[/editline]
Last question - how many of those defectors are run-of-the-mill North Korean citizens? I'm not sure what social class most of the NK defectors came from. A little explanation to me would be greatly appreciated, since I'm not too sure.
Some are lower-class soldiers near the borders, some are citizens who smuggle their way out through China and then make their way to Japan or South Korea. It's a pretty broad mix from what I've heard, but I'm hardly an expert.
