You guys are no fun holy crap. It's not like little pony or one of those other anime shows, it's DBZ, it's not the worst thing in the world
Namek is a bomb name for a planet anyway, fuck the naysayers.
Better than Kepler 22-B. Like seriously, I get it mixed up with Kepler 26-C and Kepler 49-Q all the time.
Isn't there a molecule/chemical/component/whatever that's called after Sonic and Eggman
naming something after a pop culture reference has a hell of a lot more meaning than calling it some made up name that has no relation to anything
Isn't there a molecule/chemical/component/whatever that's called after Sonic and Eggman
Correct
Correct

The gene has already been linked to a condition known as holoprosencephaly, which can result in severe brain, skull and facial defects; motivation for some clinicians and scientists to criticize the name on grounds of it sounding too frivolous. They point to a less humorous situation where patients or parents of patients with a serious disorder are told that they or their child "have a mutation in [their] sonic hedgehog".[9][64][65]
:v:
Also a protein named after Pikachu.
This was the first thing that came to mind Unless Kepler-22B has ultra mega superbeing anime fights that can carve the landscape with a punch, it should remain Keppler-22B
what show is that,.?
We should ask it what grnder it indentifies as
DBZ is all american, fuck the naysayers calling it weaboo shit fantastic name, it better have dragon balls on it
naming something after a pop culture reference has a hell of a lot more meaning than calling it some made up name that has no relation to anything
Bit awkward if we find intelligent life on it though.
pshhh, what a ridiculous idea it should be known as ryuko matoi instead
Bit awkward if we find intelligent life on it though.
naming it anything would have the same effect. we'd either find out what they call it or go "fuck you we're calling it what we want." whether named after anime or greek gods, neither would be more or less respectful to them
DragonballZ is what i'd call a respectable anime, plus i love it so i'm actually in agreement with this.
Meanwhile, in the future...
NASA released more information regarding the missing expedition to the exoplanet Namek. When asked if whether rescue operations were successful or still ongoing, NASA representatives had only this to say: "Yes, they're still on Namek. Stop asking."

Imagine colonising a planet that was named according to some centuries' old in-joke or meme.
like mars
I vote we call it LV-426 instead.
DragonballZ is what i'd call a respectable anime, plus i love it so i'm actually in agreement with this.
Not sure what makes it respectable, between a terrible generic plot, constant shortcuts due to poor animation, and nonsense filler so long it can last for episodes, it's honestly pretty disastrous. I mean "Namek" isn't the worst name in the world and it could be worse if god forbid they wanted to name the planet "Naruto" or something but I can't really see a good reason for it
what show is that,.?
I'd guess Futurama
Oh, please, "Namek" is a stupid name. Why don't they just go with "John", or "Mark", or even... "Daniel".
Oh, please, "Namek" is a stupid name. Why don't they just go with "John", or "Mark", or even... "Daniel".
because thats fucking boring.
Oh, please, "Namek" is a stupid name. Why don't they just go with "John", or "Mark", or even... "Daniel".
Ah yes, we founded our first exoplanet colony on "Planet Steve"
because thats fucking boring.
I think that was sarcasm.
naming something after a pop culture reference has a hell of a lot more meaning than calling it some made up name that has no relation to anything

because Kepler is the name of the space telescope and Kepler-22 is just one of many stars discovered by Kepler and Kepler-22b is a planet among other planets orbiting Kepler-22
