People were happy after TPM premiere as well.
I don't think anyone ever said that Little Anakin stole that movie.

Let's hope Rian Johnson will make Episode VIII a game-changer.

I just watched it 10am first public screening in Stockholm (but not the only theater playing it at this time)
Its fucking good. Its really fucking good.
Going to watch it in a few hours. All these verdicts so far have me excited.
Its so worth the hype imo, its everything the prequels werent.

Did you watch it at a regular cinema or at an IMAX? I wanted to get the IMAX tickets in Solna, Stockholm but they ran out, fast. :v:

Normal 3D. Looking to watch it IMAX around 21-25th.
Going to see this Saturday in IMAX so can't fucking wait!!
So far from general critic responses the standing order of best to worst goes like this
#1 Empire Strikes back
#2 The Force Awakens
#3 A New Hope
#4 Return of the Jedi
#5 Revenge of the Sith
#6 The Phantom Menace
#7 The Clone Wars
Well I am happy to say that there is now four Star Wars movies.
The Force Awakens has gained $100 million in pre-sale ticket record.
And that's just in North America.
Am I the only one who loved all the Star Wars movies, prequel trilogy included?
I guess I am a terrible person.

its not that they're bad its just they could have been so much more and so much better, but in comparison to the old trilogy they're an utter eyesore.
The Phantom Menace was too much focused on merchandise it seems. Before the film was even released you had a serious fuckload of merchandise with Darth Maul on it and in the end that guy had a little rol in TPM and of course he died as well just as fast, including Qui Gon Jinn.
And then they brought him back for Clone Wars despite the fact that he got cut in half and fell down a conveniently placed bottomless pit.
That was a masterpiece.. this will topple $1B easily.
The whole fucking movie is fantastic; it felt real.
It feels too safe and [sp]more or less a 1:1 of A new hope[/sp] but damn it's so fun.
Is it possible for SW to ever escape it's trope of rehashed dialogue, plots and themes?
very well-cast and talented actor who had to pull out the finest salvage job of his career just to give the vague pretense of a character
the one person in the prequels who was allowed to be an actual actor for three whole movies
both fine
decent sequence bogged down by being situated in the most boring part of the movie
who plays a vapid nothing character indistinguishable from any other emotionless jedi jobber
conceptually cool but criminally underused character who had surprisingly little to do and should have bailed into a far better story
To be fair Boba was even worse underused

At least it is not getting The Phantom Menace type reviews.
Half of these things 'bad' about the prequels, as a child growing up with Star Wars I loved.
1) The cheesy dialogue - as a child, I prefered this. It blended well with my innocent mind. Complicated dialogue as a child would of flown right over my head. It still had the right level of mystique to inspire me.
2) The CGI - I grew up in a world of crazy action films and arguing with my friends about who was the coolest hero in Star Wars (I always leaned towards the Fetts). So to me, the CGI was a plus since it enhanced that.
Honestly they might not appeal to you, but perhaps you were never the intended audience anyway.
People love to hate on George Lucas. It's a popular thing to do.
And yes, the prequels were made for merch. But I don't care - I enjoyed them.
ALTHOUGH
I loved the TPM as a kid, I even had a fucking Jar Jar Binks toy.
But today I can very much agree that film is garbage.
I bet you loved the politics discussions like I did. I mean. I went into a fucking coma, but yeah.
I liked some parts of the films when I was young but when I was much much younger I could understand and enjoy the originals much more.
Retards calling it New Hope remade and i'd rather they have made a good safe film to start the new trilogy off with rather than being risky and fucking it up badly.

now, it's easy to call people you disagree with retards but from what i hear the complaints seem pretty valid
Saw it at 15:00 here in Sweden. It was great! JJ did an excellent job.

Well tbh you could tell JJ was going for the tone of A new hope from the trailer, its not a bad thing though that's the problem i have with it is that people are seeing it as a bad thing yet A new hope let to us getting the original trilogy so how can people be bashing it if its starting off with aiming at something of the same quality?

If it ain't broke, dont fix it.
It was good. Not anything incredible or amazing, it was good. There were some stupid points and ideas that kept it from being truly great.
Major fucking spoilers:
[sp]And it was A New Hope remade, with some new ideas thrown in (though most of the new stuff introduced were good ideas). The plot is almost point-for-point Episode IV, (Good guys being massacred by bad guys in the beginning, introduction of a masked villain who captures an important character, person on desert planet with a boring life and without parents being taken on the adventure and eventually learning to be a jedi, han & chewie helping the protagonist get to the rebels/resistance, planets being blown up by Death Star/Star Killer, X Wings attacking DS/SK, Lightsaber duel, and death of an important character to further motivate the protagonists to fight the evil force.[/sp]
JJ played it a bit too safe for my taste, but it's complete understandable. A Star Wars movie is extremely difficult to make, you can't go too far with new ideas, you can't be too safe and just re-do the old films, you have to have fan-service for the bloody fanboys who'll shit themselves if they don't see R2D2 go "doot doot" at least once, but you have to introduce new characters and locations
All in all, I'm glad it was a good film and not a disaster like the prequels, although it didn't deserve 9.2/10 on IMDB, didn't deserve 100% on RT. Though I do have high expectations for the next episode, as it'll be written and directed by Rian Johnson, who's a good screenwriter, and director IMO

people aren't complaining about it having a similar tone as a new hope, that's a good thing, people are complaining about [sp]it having almost the exact same story as a new hope[/sp]
there's a pretty big difference
