they're not completely retarded, baring a woman from a subject like this is government level discrimination that will hurt their public image by basically coming out with "we don't want women having a say over their bodies". The second Obama altered the decision they continued to hammer him, the GOP made a terrible mistake. They forgot to examine how many states already passed similar legislation as well as how many Republicans helped design that legislation.
It's symptomatic of the lack of real leadership in the GOP, really. They have no idea what to do.
I have a really hard time wrapping my head around Republicans. When you suggest universal healthcare they will say "OMG SOCIALISM" or "BIG BROTHER GOVERNMENT IS MAKING DECISIONS FOR US".
Then you open up options that give the people more options and control over their lives, and suddenly the Republicans are all for having government restrict people's choices and freedom? I thought they wanted less government oversight?
The big thing to keep in mind is that they're not a very diverse group. But what they lack in diversity, they make up for in erratic, hypocritical behavior and statements.
When they say "We are against big government, we want smaller government", they're really saying "We want to shrink the government so a smaller group of elite people and private organizations will have more power in governing".
When they say "People should have more rights and freedoms", they're referring only to those people and private organizations who think like they do.
The occasional oddball of the group will pop up and accomplish something great, but they are few and far in between these days.
Local groomer had this sign up, my brother and I saw it so I thought I'd record it

What I don't get is how interfering with other people's private lives counts as a "religious liberty".
best part was them saying that they won't support anyone who has something contraceptive related in their health care plan... and then getting the response "like mitt romney?"
Also notice what their kid is, he is not a shithead like their parents.
In theory, that was their message, but in practice the message was rich white planter elite wanting to keep bumming off of the money their slaves made...hm, that sounds familiar to today's corporations...Either way, this is getting off-topic I think.
Apparently most slaves were treated "well". Still, no exceptions; no exceptions at all.

This is like having a bunch of white people who have never seen a black person in their life testify at a civil rights committee
