John Boyega Hesitant On How Fans Will React to Star Wars: The Force Awakens
i'd like to think in a world where truly adult and complex stories like game of thrones exist, that star wars in its entirety (yes even the OT) would finally be seen as the juvenile fucking dogshit it is and be laughed out of society.
but nope.
Personally, I find Game of Thrones to be needlessly over-complicated, overly-saturated with characters whose sole purpose is to rile up the fan-base and often has a tendency to shuffle through characters and plot points completely at random with little structure in an effort to come off as complex and original. It tries to act like it doesn't follow common tropes when in reality it just does the exact opposite of them. The show and the books begin to get very predictable once you realize the creator's idea of being original is just doing the exact opposite of what most readers/viewers would expect. "Oh you think Likable Character A is going to save the day against Highly Unlikable And Otherwise Pointless Character B and save Fan Favorite C from certain death? Well it certainly looks like i- OHHH LOOKS LIKE HIGHLY UNLIKABLE CHARACTER B JUST MIRACULOUSLY MANAGED TO EXPLODE THE OTHER GUY'S HEAD AT THE LAST MINUTE! HAHA BET YOU DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING? Looks like Fan Favorite C is fucked! OR IS HE?!" That was fresh and interesting for a couple seasons but by the end of Season 4 it just started to get old and predictable. I haven't read far into the books but it seems to be more or less the same.
Also, a story does not need to be soft-core pornography in order to be considered "adult". At times Game of Thrones is very hard for me to take seriously because it relies so heavily on pointlessly pornographic scenes in order to seem "adult". Even one of the strongest and most important characters in the entire story so far spent an entire season being nothing but masturbation material with very little character development. If memory serves me right, the actress even refused to do any more nude scenes because of this. At times it even seems to be catering to specific fetishes and sexual orientations. You have gay porn, lesbian porn, lots and lots of straight porn, bisexual porn, pregnant porn, supernatural porn, torture porn, sado-masochism, rape fantasies and a shitload of incest porn to top it all off. It's needlessly over the top and only plays into the context of the story in a few key places.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Game of Thrones even though I find it highly overrated, but to say that it's truly adult and complex compared to fucking Star Wars, an entirely incomparable work of fiction aimed at a completely different audience that shares no similarities what-so-ever in narrative, themes, character development or plot structure with Game of Thrones, is kind of silly.
Well that was needlessly wordy, like George Rrrrrr Martin's descriptions of sexual organs (ooohh!), so back on topic: Considering the last three films in the series were complete trash, I can understand any reservations the creators might have on how the fan base will react. However I have faith in JJ Abrams and the people creating this film to do the series far more justice than anyone besides the creators of the OT.

game of thrones is trashy fantasy just like star wars (this is not a criticism of either of them)

WOW this is fucking edgy lol
sorry the retard masses arent intelligent enough to only enjoy the higher forms of culture such as game of thrones
I don't really envy Abrams the task in front of him. Sure, the prequels are 'infamously disliked' by the people who were around for and grew up on the original trilogy... but they're also enjoyed by younger folks who grew up with the prequels first. I work with kids, and hearing a teenage girl call Hayden Christensen's Anakin 'dreamy' and her favorite character was a rather surreal experience, but I guess that's a non-negligible demographic now.
And they're ALL interested in more Star Wars. It's gonna be a hell of a balancing act if he pulls it off.

Holy fucking shit lol
I bet you think Breaking Bad is the best crime drama ever
and that you haven't even seen The Wire
Trekkies hated Star Trek Into Darkness tho
Even I as a not really Star Trek fan hated Into Darkness. Too much references to Wrath of Khan and a lot of script issues. JJ recently admitted mistakes were made. Thanks Lindelof.

amazing
It should be said, most shit nerds (people like us) like, such as Stars Wars, Harry Potter, Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, GOT and such are what Stephen King would the Mc Donalds of stories.
Now, does that mean all of these are shit that can't have complex characters or stories? No. But at the end of the day they are all junk food that are mainly enjoyed by mostly young audiences.
I'm surprised Boyega is so hesitant because in other interviews he seemed pretty excited to be in TFA. I'm sure it's better not to overhype things.
As for me I'm sligthly optimistic about the movie. The first Star Trek from JJ was a great Star Wars movie, from the interviews they seem to put a lot of effort into it and the new cast have either great roles behind them or just appear like kind, charismatic people.
Plus last Star Wars movies we got were the Prequels and although Lucas created this universe I think JJ is a better director.

What?????
What?????
Mc Donalds when compared to stuff like Sopranos, the Wire, the God father and so on. The shit I bring up is meant to be mainly entertaining out of this world stuff or filled with dramatic "holy shit!" scenes, filled with characters who can take on impossible odds and emerge victorious, none of it is meant to be seriously thought provoking or grounded in reality. None of them try to tell a serious story.
I'm pretty shit at trying to explain but what I'm trying to say but compare how Breaking Bad portrays the drug world compared to how the Wire does it. Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones are both awesome as fuck, but they are leagues below truly complex, adult stories like the Wire or Sopranos.
It's pretty stupid when people like 9millmeeter act like those 2 shows are above Star Wars simply because they are gritty and really violent.
I really couldn't give a shit about star wars anymore.
Everyone is suddenly a star wars geek and every conversation leads to star wars and shit. People will fucking die for this brand I swear to god.
To me it's just a product designed to make as much money as possible now, I just want to ignore it all or else I am just gonna get depressed about movies again.

Those two aren't mutually exclusive though, sounds like he's excited to be in it, but wondering what sort of reception it will recieve.
