I do hope they refugee's don't all end up in the UK. As harsh as that sounds we've got enough problems as it is.
It seems they are heading to Italy at the moment. They were requesting help from Frontex a few days/weeks ago.
There's nothing good about military action (besides evacuating civilians) in Libya. Any U.S.-backed or -installed regime in the Middle East has fallen. We have to let the people decide their future.
[editline]28th February 2011[/editline]
If this is executed well it could be beneficial, but otherwise it could end up causing more problems. I also hope it is a multi-lateral joint UN commission handling this, not just the US.
I hope the US stays out of it entirely, leave it to the UN or the EU.

If there's any international involvement in the Libya situation, it can't be unilateral - I'd like to see an organization such as the UN or NATO be the one sending troops.

To your second statement, I agree entirely. Besides, I don't think the U.S. military has the manpower or the resources to station any sort of functional occupation force in Libya at the moment.
Why do people keep referring specificity to the US? They are not the only people who could deal with this, and it seems like they are not the people who are going to lead anything that sorts this out. Although saying that, they seem to be the only people actually moving stuff around already.
Few other nations sport the navy necessary to carry out a rapid response with any real amount of force. This isn't to say that they are incapable of helping, just that their response time is likely to be a little slower.
I hope the US stays out of it entirely, leave it to the UN or the EU.
world doesn't revolve around europe.
world doesn't revolve around europe.
But Libya is more important to Europe than it is to the US (It provides most of the oil to Europe and its pretty close to us)
Obama is a warmonger!! No blood for oil!!

it has begun
The main point of military action would be support for the rebels where they'd otherwise be vastly overpowered, primarily air support. If no military support is given chances are the situation will either end up with a lot of people dead due to chemical attacks or a years long conflict due to a stand still. Which is pretty much bad for everybody. The EU and US want Libya to return to stability and keep pumping out oil, if military action is necessary then so be it. Intervention doesn't always mean occupation.

I am guessing that any country that goes to help the rebels will not want to be stuck in another Afghanistan/Iraq style situation. I guess they would assist and stick around long enough for the country to stabilize and sort it self out and then get the fuck out of there.
The UK seems to have made the first move by not hinting and saying that plans are being worked on.
Yeah we've alread sent in the Royal Marines, the SAS and SBS to extract oil workers and are planning on moving deeper into the cities to get the rest outta dodge, and camerons talking with NATO to co-ordinate air superiority to stop bombing runs on the libyans, it won't be a far cry from that point to when we have infantry on the ground helping out the civilians.
China sent this ship to protect its people that are being evacuated from Libya. One can wonder if it really is needed.
