Looks interesting, i've never seen bladerunner but I like how this film looks.
I'd rather have a sequel to expand an amazing universe, rather than a reboot that erases the whole timeline and just tries to cash in on the name.
Even if it's not good, everything is better than a reboot.
..my poor Stargate.
Really hoping it's gonna be good and hoping they'll nail the atmosphere. I'm just glad it is going to be a sequel and not a reboot, because that would suck.
I wonder how the setting will change with an extra 30 years. They already had flying cars, androids, and space colonies.
Nothing changed! They stagnated :v:

I reckon since the original was based off societal concerns in the 1980s, this one will end up based off current societal issues. Such as climate change. And incorporate new technologies that we have now and technological predictions we have for the future.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Villeneuve briefly discussed the film, revealing it's set a few decades after the original. It'll take place in Los Angeles again, and the earth's atmosphere will be different. "The climate has gone berserk — the ocean, the rain, the snow is all toxic".
It really wasn't about societal concerns of the 80s though. The book and the film both explore in superb detail a crisis of identity, the definition of 'human' as well as the primary elements of cyberpunk overall.
Baring in mind the book came out in '68 as well.
Certain things took a backdrop to the main themes in the film such as corporate greed overriding politics and morality but that's what cyberpunk is. It's a genre steeped in narrative exploring humanity in dark scenarios through the view of "in the future but not too far"
Harrison ford looks pretty healthy for 74 in that OP pic
Thinking about how someone could followup the atmosphere set by Vangelis with the original I looked up who is doing it for 2049. This guy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jóhann_Jóhannsson
He did the music for Sicario:

I'll be happy if he actually tries to use old synths and stuff, I don't expect it to sound exactly Vangelis.
Uhhh now I'm going to take this moment to plug my cover of the original main theme:
