New Intel chip that thwarts piracy a coup for Hollywood

Will the 2011 chip have this drm crap too? I'd imagine not since it's aimed more at amateur workstations, but still.

I'm 95% sure this DRM will be a flop

Sure it will be.
Though I do not understand how it will detect pirated material and what it will do next...?

It doesn't detect pirated stuff, it stops you from copying it. Although I don't see why you couldn't use a screen capture tool.

If it is on your screen, it can be duplicated, and there isn't anything I can imagine that would stop pirates from doing so.

I'm not sure, either. Because from what I'm reading, it seems like it's supposed to just to prevent you from ripping movies off DVDs/Blu-Rays, not preventing actual torrenting or viewing of pirated movies
~ninja~

Using screen capture tool to cap anything like a movie is a terrible idea.

If it only prevents you from ripping, it will be cracked in no time since the release groups are rather smart when it comes to ripping and releasing stuff.

Anyways I'm pretty sure within the first week there will be a workaround
[editline]wef[/editline]
wait ninja again??
i give it a month.
why would you waste time cracking this when you can still rip blu-ray's
What really happened is they are going to have a streaming website, like netfix, but intel chips will have a special program to stop people from pirating movies from their site at the heart of the computer, at the deepest level, so not controlled by the OS.
If this was ever the time, crackers everywhere will overcome whatever Intel put out.

And why exactly would anyone want to pirate from their website?

to piss them off.
otherwise it's completely pointless since most pirated movies are first cam rips which there is no way in hell you can combat once they get uploaded you'd have to stop the person with the camera in the theater which they have yet to make a significant impact with that problem. then eventually DVD, Blu-ray rips that you can protect but people have got around everything they've tried anyway.
someone will find a way to bypass it you watch
and if you can't (HIGHLY unlikely) we could...you know...not buy them.
I wasn't planning on it any way since they don't seem to justify the stupidly high price that they're likely to have.
not buying a CPU because you will not be able to pirate things is a terrible excuse
and it's not overpriced what are you on
you don't think a quad core clocked at 4.4 GHz is worth $220?
not buying a CPU because you will not be able to pirate things is a terrible excuse
A terrible excuse yes, but at the end of the day that's one less chip sold and less profits for intel.
I'm loving how everybody is flipping their shit over something that is equivalent to HDCP, not an evil program embedded in the CPU to report you to the cops.
This means this service will be available only to sandy owners. That's a narrow userbase there.
Can't we just use a screen recording program?
that would be spying :downs:
Can't we just use a screen recording program?
Sure you can, but only if you want to share it with your family. No one else will take you seriously.
If someone were to screen record it and then optimize it, it would roughly have a little bit more compression.
