Considering the big social obsession with virginity I think this is very interesting
That's the thing though, I don't see sex as a taboo; in fact, I'm completely open to sex and the discussion of sex. I just think that this is more or less a way to "shock" people because it's homosexual sex. He's purposely stirring controversy when it's completely unnecessary.
Sex and sexual relations don't need awareness raised; this isn't comparable to the Buddhist Monks Self-Immolating in protest.
Saying "I personally feel that people should keep their sexual acts to themselves and their own private places. It doesn't matter if it's heterosexual or homosexual fornication, it should remain personal." means that you have a personal taboo in regards to sex. Saying that sex doesn't need to be discussed and shouldn't be and shutting out all discussion is ridiculous? Why shouldn't we talk about sex or what is the problem with having it displayed in a public event like this? Why does it make you uncomfortable?
You honestly cannot say this with certainty. You have no idea what could have been involved with the preparation of it. How many institutions or privately-funded facilities do you think allow people to have sex in a public setting within them? Do you think its as easy as asking a museum "hey, yeah can we fuck here? is that cool?"
You'd be surprised at what performing arts academies will let you do. I'm sure it did get hung up with concerns from the school's administrative people and maybe even the local government; but in all reality he wasn't toiling over perfecting the performance.
It's not like he worked day and night for years perfecting a symphony or creating a masterful painting. This guy is literally going to be put on his knees and fucked in the ass for a short while. Not exactly worth saying it took three years of hard work, blood, sweat, and tears. Well, unless you want to count the blood/sweat/tears portion being saved for the popping of his ass cherry.

You're saying this with some sort of certainty that you actually do not have. You do not know what it took to get this performance going so please stop talking as if you do.
You're legitimately sounding like an idiot.

Like I said in my previous post, I am open to the subject of sex; in fact, I'm extremely non-chalant in regards to the whole act of sex. I don't see it as some sacred thing as a lot of people do. I suppose my main concern is that he's using this as an excuse to gain international attention when him having sex and losing his virginity in reality is not a big deal at all like he's advertising it to be.
I suppose this is why I personally feel sex should be a private activity; it's something that is entirely unassuming and unimportant so why try and create controversy out of it?

And you're saying with some sort of certainty that it took a huge amount of hard work to get this performance going.
So please, accept that fact that you too are sounding quite idiotic as well.

That's his whole point! You just don't think anything needs to be said about it, but not everyone realizes that sex, virginity, and the act of losing your virginity is no big deal at fucking all! You practically agree with him and the message of the act, but you're mistaken if you think that everyone shares the same beliefs.

No, actually I'm not. I'm saying that neither of us know anything about what it took him finally get this piece going so it's stupid to make assumptions on either side.
people are seriously freaking out over this?

Sure, I agree with his point I just don't agree with how he's going about proving it, mostly because it won't accomplish much other than give him temporary fame and further push those unprogressive ignorant people deeper into their jaded beliefs. I mean, honestly, what type of people do you expect to view this performance? Most likely people who are already open and progressive. I doubt we're going to see Church heads and your bible beating extremists showing up to be "Educated" on the unassuming unimportance of sex.
Hell, with the three years he spent on this project he could have done something progressive like lobbying or making sex less of a taboo by actually reaching out to those who do think so.

Oh I think you're right. This message isn't going anywhere it isn't already heard. But the intent behind the piece is interesting. Maybe someone with greater reach will see this and do something with it.
What the fuck is this.

Congratulations, you just posted about art, the SH way.
Why are people so weirded out by sex?

I agree, the subject matter itself is fantastic and I agree that people should become more open to sex regardless of one's sexuality. Like I had said, this performance is really only to spark controversy, and not the "Change things for the better" type of controversy. It a very unprogressive way to fight for progress. Plus, it's going to enrich that stigma against homosexuality which is just awful in my opinion.
If he is a bottom and he has never had anything in his ass I might want to go simply because it would be funny as hell to watch.

Lame, been done on the internet a thousand times.
If people want to watch two guys boning they can just go on all three million porn sites on the Internet
But in all seriousness, this isn't the weirdest avant-garde art can go. Anyone else seen Interior Semiotics?

Porn is now considered art?

This is the type where critics go catch-22 on you, right?
You think it's bad because you don't understand what it is and when you ask what it means, they'll say it's too complex for you to understand?
Porn is now considered art?
That's like saying X-art is porn.
Oh wait
As long as he tells us where its happening so those who don't like can avoid it, its fine.
Just keep the noise down!
I'm curious whether the audience will still be a proper crew of art show regulars or just a greasy bunch of people who heard about live sex and couldn't care less about the context
If something is created with the intention of being art, it's art
[editline]25th October 2013[/editline]
It's the reason why a natural monument isn't art or the pie and chips I cooked earlier isn't either
Alot of people think that I don't think this is art. Maybe its because I have no idea what art really is. So can someone explain what art is? People say that art is something that is meant to make you wonder and think, but what isn't art? Alot of issues make you think but they aren't considered art.
So take me as a idiot and explain to me. Thanks.

While that's true, this can still be stupid, contrived artwork that nobody likes.

This for instance, is better art than the OP content; since it's a great form of social criticism. Being fucked in the ass in live show seems more like a spectacle created purposely for drawing attention, it's pretty shallow.
Art is a diverse range of human activities and the products of those activities; this article focuses primarily on the visual arts, which includes the creation of images or objects in fields including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and other visual media. Architecture is often included as one of the visual arts; however, like the decorative arts, it involves the creation of objects where the practical considerations of use are essential—in a way that they are usually not for a painting, for example. Music, theatre, film, dance, and other performing arts, as well as literature, and other media such as interactive media are included in a broader definition of art or the arts.[1] Until the 17th century, art referred to any skill or mastery and was not differentiated from crafts or sciences, but in modern usage the fine arts, where aesthetic considerations are paramount, are distinguished from acquired skills in general, and the decorative or applied arts.
Art has been characterized in terms of mimesis, expression, communication of emotion, or other values. During the Romantic period, art came to be seen as "a special faculty of the human mind to be classified with religion and science".[2] Though the definition of what constitutes art is disputed[3][4][5] and has changed over time, general descriptions mention an idea of human agency[6] and creation through imaginative or technical skill.[7]
The nature of art, and related concepts such as creativity and interpretation, are explored in a branch of philosophy known as aesthetics.[8]
This is really gay.
