not having a visceral or emotional reaction to this 'piece' just displaying facts in a logic manner and in a descriptive manner.
art should be appraised with emotion, not "logic"
Has anyone seen the video of a girl stuffing spaghettio's into her vagina in front of an art class? [editline]25th October 2013[/editline] It was pretty artistic
you're not speaking about anything in a logical manner. you're telling us this isn't art based on a couple of text book definitions that you are interpreting to mean a certain set of traits. is anything that marcel duchamp did art? is anything done by jackson pollcock art?
wow posted on the last page nevermind :(
Some peoples on Facepunch would call a video of a person shooting themself in the head as long as it was labeled "art"
not having a visceral or emotional reaction to this 'piece' just displaying facts in a logic manner and in a descriptive manner. AK's, you can take any two words out of my post and change the context and meaning of them to support your argument. However if you read the whole sentence like a big boy, it says something different.
I do enjoy how you're taking this apparent high-horse stance whilst also having such an inane and childish opinion.
What you seem to be forgetting is that JUST BECAUSE SOMETHING IS CONSIDERED ART DOESN'T MEAN IT'S GOOD ART. This is like the fourth time this has been said in the thread.
Some peoples on Facepunch would call a video of a person shooting themself in the head as long as it was labeled "art"
make generalizations, go for it, it clearly makes your argument better
Yes, My "high-horse" stance is to defend real works of art and not accept pretentious acts such as this to be lumped together with them. Regardless of whos right or wrong, the show will go on right? At least i shared an opinion defending the traditional depiction of what real art is. Whether you think it is inane or childish or not.
make generalizations, go for it, it clearly makes your argument better
It's actually not a generalization. Its an example of how some mistake being 'open minded' for being completely pacifistic in their own conclusions of what they choose to believe.

Because I expect the latter. what's a "traditional" depiction of art? Is picasso? Van gogh? pollock? warhol?
Why do you think that by defining this as art, you're lumping it with appreciable works...? Anything can be considered art. Rather than arguing what is and isn't art, you do something more productive; like, argue why it's good or bad. Art doesn't have inherent value.

Whether you think it is inane or childish or not.
Well, it is. Art is such a huge and complicated topic that you can't just take what you call 'real works of art' and say that everything else isn't. Why exactly do you think this is pretentious? If you'd read the OP you'd have actually seen the thoughts and intentions of the guy doing this. The brutal fact of the matter is that this piece of art has more thought and emotion in it than any of your 'real art'. Though I will make one thing clear. I do enjoy aesthetically pleasing art as well, however I'm not childish enough to start whining about archaic ideals. [editline]25th October 2013[/editline]
what's a "traditional" depiction of art? Is picasso? Van gogh? pollock? warhol?
I can already predict that his 'true' and 'traditional' art is pure realism.
At least i shared an opinion defending the traditional depiction of what real art is.
cool, thanks.
He actually raises some good points on how virginity is some arbitrary thing to measure one's worth, and differs by what gender you are
are you a serious lover of art, or do you just want to appear in this thread to tell everyone what is, and isn't? Because I expect the latter. what's a "traditional" depiction of art? Is picasso? Van gogh? pollock? warhol?
Rather than dropping big artist names that everybody can spew out at any arguement. I like to call art things that make me go "Wow!, how did that person do this?" Something that stimulates my creative energy to bring my own skill to the next level. Leon, I don't think i can argue why this is good or bad art because i do not consider it to be art. I do indeed love art with a passion, thats why i feel the need to defend what is important to the culture of what has been and what is to come. I really wish there was some sort of chat function. It would be much easier to debate rather than posting over and over.
cool, thanks.
You're very welcome.
i feel the need to defend what is important to the culture of what has been and what is to come.
you're not defending free expression at all, and if you moan about it you're only showing how blind you are to today's culture.
How, eh? How did that 19 year old student work up the courage to have gay sex in public? Irrespective of what you think, art isn't simply handicraft and glue.
you're not defending free expression at all, and if you moan about it you're only showing how blind you are to today's culture.
Prefect! you hit the nail on the head. This is free expression. And there is NOTHING wrong with free expression.. Still doesn't make it art, in the most basic definition.
2art noun \ˈärt\ : something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings : works created by artists : paintings, sculptures, etc., that are created to be beautiful or to express important ideas or feelings : the methods and skills used for painting, sculpting, drawing, etc.

He reckons his 'performance art project' will earn him rave reviews for challenging the idea of sexuality. Clayton, who has been planning the event for three years, said: "The key thing about performance art is that it should only be performed once, and this is the ultimate once-in-a-lifetime performance." "Since culturally we do hold quite a lot of value to the idea of virginity I have decided to use mine and the loss of it to create a piece that I think will stimulate interesting debate and questions regarding the subject."
Everyone views art differently. Some even think art is just paintings and nothing else. He has his views, ideas and feelings that he wants to express, whether you think it shouldn't be classified as art is your own personal opinion.
Art is a diverse range of human activities and the products of those activities; Music, theatre, film, dance, and other performing arts, as well as literature, and other media such as interactive media are included in a broader definition of art or the arts.
It's complicated to argue about it but it is what it is and anyone who loves art entirely understands why this is artistic in some way or other. Art isn't just paintings, sculptures and architecture, those are only the primary focuses.
How is it not art exactly? I really, really hate having to resort to google-fu to do this retarded shit but. "the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power." I see literally nothing which contradicts what this guy is doing. before you start crying again, creative skill and imagination doesn't mean just being good with their hands and a paintbrush. The word "TYPICALLY" there is important. "beauty OR emotional power"
This is free expression. And there is NOTHING wrong with free expression.. Still doesn't make it art, in the most basic definition.
you're getting worked up for no reason dude. art in its basic definition is free expression imo.
I assume you guys think brazzers videos are a form of art too then. Anyway, good chat with you guys. Thanks for bringing your opinions to the table. And thanks for rebutting mine in the manners that you have.
you're getting worked up for no reason dude. art in its basic definition is free expression imo.
To reiterate, at no point was i worked up. Using an "artistic license" with my grammar as a way to exclaim certain focuses of my entires does not necessarily mean i have any emotional attachment other than wanting to debate a subject i disagree on. But your assumption is note worthy i suppose.
Some peoples on Facepunch would call a video of a person shooting themself in the head as long as it was labeled "art"
that is probably because they know what art is

I hope you have a good day!

If you want to think of art in a certain way then yeah, I guess you could call porn art as it is still able to elicit more of a response from people than "wow that looks cool, I wonder how they did that, it's aesthetically so pleasing" porn better than realism true fact
to sum up: "i have a passion for free expression" "free expression is pretentious and you're all dumb" edit: "also I waffle a lot"
Very mature response. You must be.... 13?
Also, given that some men can pleasure women better than other men and vice-versa, sex does kinda require some sort of skill or experience.
Very mature response. You must be.... 13?
Ironic
Very mature response. You must be.... 13?
Holy literal shit grow up. Truth be told that post was a heck of a lot more coherent and mature than anything you've posted thusfar which can be summed up with "I'm stuck in an archaic worldview which sees art as purely aesthetic pleasantries" and "I want to defend what's important to culture". You might not have noticed this in your blind ignorance but the performance done by this 19-year-old has had a bigger impact overall than anything in the past 10 years which you would call "real art".
I should have recorded when my boyfriend painted my face with his cum. It was a true Picasso.
