Just to be clear to the triumphalist "America will win in any case"- retards:
The issue here is not NK possibly winning, their eventual defeat is obvious in any scenario, the issue is the hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions, of inevitable civilian casualties that would ensue from NK doing any sort of initial attack at all.
Get your heads out of your asses, this is not a videogame

Yep, that's the shameful truth. We all know the old saying. War doesn't determine who is right, only who is left.
I think a lot of people need to start getting more concerned with NK. Sure we are more technology advance than them, but their military can still do a large amount of damage.
I'd be inclined to say that NK should really try doing something big, just because it would end up crushing this shitty political regime to an old pile of crumbs.

I'd rather have many civilians die and see all of the following generations free from a long-going totalitarian regime than have things stagnate over and over again until everyone dies out of starvation and madness inside a ghost country that has consumed itself to oblivion.
It's not the best scenario sure but it's still a scenario preferable to not doing anything.

that's not your fucking choice to make dude. you don't get to say that some people deserve to be murdered because it might make other people's lives better.

This. All of my family lives in South Korea, even my parents and siblings. If shit goes down, literally my entire family is in danger, esp. since Seoul is so close to the border.
EDIT: I live in the US btw
it's ok guys, South Korea bought a bunch of these patriot missiles from the Germans

they're missiles that shoot down other missiles.
They don't have enough of them, by a long shot, even assuming a 100% success rate.
You're assuming that the one nuke works (they've a 33% fizzle rate), and hits its target (they have a terrible record for missile launches), *and* isn't shot down by either a Patriot battery or an AEGIS cruiser.
As for the 1M dead from the shelling? That's if they can *last* a day. We'd start counter-battery fire within half an hour. Remember, if their guns can hit us, our guns can hit them. And you're a fool if you think we don't have our own guns in position, not to mention what we could do with airstrikes and missiles.
Yes, Seoul would get fucked up pretty badly. But I doubt the death toll south of the 38th will reach the six-digit range, much less the seven.
Sure, North Korea would get slaughtered. We likely wouldn't go nuclear ourselves*, since the radiation would spread to SK and even Japan, but modern armies have demonstrated a terrifying proficiency at eliminating hostiles.
* If NK uses a nuke and it actually works, *maybe*. But really, using a nuke against North Korea is like using a howitzer against a paper target - overkill, and as dangerous to yourself as to your target. There might be some token tactical nukes used, just for the political "we nuked 'em back!" points, but nothing above 20kt, and probably only against military targets. Despite the events of the past twelve years, America really doesn't like killing civilians.
They have a terrible success rate for their Taepodong missiles; their Rodong and other such missiles are glorified Scuds, which are very much reliable. Whether or not their nuclear warheads are compact enough to fit on one is a different matter. If their nuclear weapons development as every other nuclear power was when they first started out, then imo that's unlikely.

Never said it was my choice to make, I'm just giving my opinion on the matter.
You don't have the slightest bit of influence on this either, so why are you getting your pants in a twist just because I said something you don't agree with.

yea and i think your opinion is dumb that's why i said it. obv. you don't have any actual influence. i'm saying that morally it is not your choice to make whether someone lives or dies, whether you have influence or not.
One psychotic dictator dies, another comes in and fills his spot. Unbelievable. This could either be really bad, or nothing at all.
Honestly at this point i wouldnt be suprised if he was little more than a figurehead. would make sence seeing how much NK flip-flops

Regardless, North Korea is completely capable of fucking up Seoul before anyone else can respond.
Edit: quoted the wrong thing, whatever

Sounds more like Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction to me.
After over 50 years of military tension, the aging President Choi Kim of North Korea began to embrace the "Sunshine Policy" of South Korea, reviving hopes of peaceful reunification. However, the North Korean military became disgruntled with the turn of events, fearing a dramatic loss of their power. Their leader, the brilliant and ruthless Choi Song, believed that his father, President Kim, was losing sight of "North Korea's true destiny." Song led an army of insurgents into a ceremony celebrating a road map to the reunification of Korea. Both North and South Korean political leaders were shot and killed, and Song is reported to have deliberately killed his own father in the process.
After the successful coup, General Song then severed all contact with the outside world. The whole country went "dark" for many weeks, until a North Korean freighter, by accident, was discovered to contain a small but potent nuclear weapon bound for an Indonesian terrorist front. Various intelligence agencies in the world subsequently found North Korea's missile capability to be far more advanced than previously expected. Song's possession of nuclear weapons and ICBMs as well as his deal with terrorist groups prompted the formation of an Allied Nation Task Force. The multinational troops toppled Song's government and captured the launch sites, only to discover that North Korea was building more nuclear warheads at another unknown launch site. The missiles were to be completed in three weeks, and only the elusive General Song had the launch codes. With millions of lives at risk, the AN had no choice but occupy the region and search for Song.
Why are people being afraid of WWIII?
Not a single country is allied with North Korea. They are literally pissing into their own shoe if they do anything.
The will be annihilated in every scenario.

Where not worried about World War 3 where worried about Seoul getting blown to hell
Where not worried about World War 3 where worried about Seoul getting blown to hell
Yes, but few people have been screaming about it, so whatever.
If they plan to blow up Seoul, that's pretty like signing their own death sentence.
maybe they will just play gangnam style and get along x3
Nothing major is going to happen.

Even if North Korea did something (which I doubt they actually will), nobody is going to stand up for them. China and Russia don't want to be associated with them, and South Korea is backed by the USA.
North Korea taking any action guarantees their annihilation
Is it wrong that both as an American and half-Korean, I'm willing to march to war against NK if war ensues?
Is it wrong that both as an American and half-Korean, I'm willing to march to war against NK if war ensues?
It's not wrong, it's just silly.
Their nukes can be worrying, how many do they have? If enough are launched, it could kill the atmosphere.
They barely learned to make ballistic missiles, they can't have that many.
And I'm pretty sure that even if all the nuclear bombs in the world went off the atmosphere would still be in place

you're completely forgetting about the fact that the entire populace of north korea is indoctrinated against the west
every last person would be liable to pick up arms against an invading force
add that on top of the mountainous, forested region that NK is, and also add the fact that there's hundreds of miles of military tunnels throughout the region, and you have yourself a military quagmire on the scale of vietnam
that said, i'm not afraid of NK itself, i'm afraid of getting drafted if a war were to ensue
