Huge leak reveals how the world's rich and powerful hide their money and dodge sanctions/taxes

Capitalism isn't the main culprit here. No matter what you do, there will always be people taking advantage of the system.
Plenty of people want to. It's just that nobody is willing to organize anything and make the first move. We're hurting and we're tired, even here in the West where we live affluent, spoiled lives full of luxuries that we take for granted in a societal structure that revolves around consumerism. It's just that we're not in agony and exhausted yet that we've finally reached a point where we realize we have nothing left to lose and the old order of things has got to be done away with. We still for the most part have comfortable enough lives. We have access to running water, food, a little bit of money (though not nearly enough), a few job opportunities here and there... for what glaring inequalities there are here (which do need to be addressed), we live very comfortable lives considering the international situation in places like Asia, Africa, South America, etc. (the Third World, in short).
I really hope the future gets bleak. Not in the sense that the old order will have a firm domination over us as it presently does, but in the sense that we start suffering more and more economic calamities and begin seriously suffering from the effects of climate change. When people are absolutely poor, start lacking the bare essentials, and when they feel like life is horrible, then they get desperate. That's when you see change happen-- if not from the hand of the forces in power, then from the people themselves. Elites don't seem to realize from history that you can only give ordinary people so much shit before they finally say enough is enough and start partying like it's 1789 all over again. And the odds of them getting out alive are not good, since people like us make up the bulk of society and therefore seriously outnumber them and their families.
It's going to be a fun (in the sense of being the best worst time of our lives) and interesting future for our generation, that much is guaranteed no matter how we may fantasize and imagine things will play out at the moment.
I don't think you have any idea about what you are wishing for. When people get desperate, things get really bad. The Russian revolution initially toppled the Czar and put a democracy together, but the vast amount of Russian citizens were too angry and felt that things were changing too slowly. This resulted in another revolution briefly thereafter, with a civil war following just afterwards. Millions died to political purges, disease and starvation, because the entirety of the "old" system was destroyed with nothing to replace it. Yes, the former Russian elite was systematically destroyed, but so was hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of innocent people too. The result of all this carnage was that Josef Stalin could fight his way to the top. And then people ended up even more afraid and oppressed than they already were under the Czar.
I always just thought of capitalism as something we make do with until we can do something better
Maybe in a future where robotic labor has made our economic system obsolete but its always going to have people playing the system

Sitting in the university catching up with everything that's been going on in the mod chat. Thought Starpluck was fucking around. But nope, it seems to be real :/
Hmm, this is so weird.
Anyhow, just don't ask about it or be so blatant about it on the forums and everything will probably be fine.
The post he was banned for is most likely the one where he talks about "capitalism crumbling under its own weight"
2 edgy 4 the CIA
The guy must have been some muggle discovering the US governments involvement with the wizard world.
Prime minister of Iceland didnt want to step down after this, shits going down over there soon im presuming

I doubt any of the people mentioned in the papers will step down
NBCNews and USAToday now reporting on this.
Front page news on FT, not a peep on WSJ. Classic.
I doubt any of the people mentioned in the papers will step down
Its a bit dieffrent with iceland isnt it though. Back in 2008 they had a major bankruptcy, considering its kinda relevant to what the prime minister is doing now, people already went to the streets of iceland today, asking him to step down.
The NBC article is a good read, apparently it was acquired and leaked by a hacker? So this stuff is bound to come out since they're not the sole controllers of the information.
Cameron and his party are apparently in even deeper shit than some embarrassment, it implicates members of house of parliament.

So, Code Red: SHUT IT DOWN mode confirmed at Facepunch?
Which probably gets followed up by men in black suits tailing the mod team.
And that one poster probably ending up getting ''disappeared'' or worse.
Boy, I don't like where this is going at all.
What the fuck is going on, I thought Facepunch was safe from this shit
It was not about the Panama Papers. I am prohibited from discussing what content was specifically targeted— and I am sure I am treading some lines with garry in discussing what was not targeted. Until we receive a request to remove the information, [del]you can still see it for yourself (As of 4/4/2016— 12:51 PM GMT: [/del]An additional request has been received.) We will block the specified user's access to the site due to prevent further problematic subpoenas until the matter is resolved.
I will not be discussing this matter further.
I'm just gonna be an optimist and assume that subpoena in place because something is being investigated and not because of information control.
I'm really interested to see how much the Mining Companies in Australia have gotten away with. They've basically made billions while only paying peanuts back and got away with it. I can see Gina Rinehart being in a lot of shit.
On that note I wonder how much shit Newscorp is in, or how they're/they are going to cover this. I don't really check the news here anymore aside from the ABC every now and then.
i hope garry doesn't get into trouble with this
I thought JWJ was the worst I'd see from FP...
You guys probably saw that Reddit made some changes in their data handling policy just a few days ago.

If this is related with what's going on here is something I will not speculate on. But put two and two together ...
I find it funny how everyone goes up in arms over privacy when it involves them, but when the privacy of a certain other demographic is breached, everyone celebrates.

I am also very sad about all these corrupt politicians and their privacy being violated
I am also very sad about all these corrupt politicians and their privacy being violated
I'm going for logical consistency here: why is their privacy different from our privacy?
I'm going for logical consistency here: why is their privacy different from our privacy?
It's not. I hope someone would stop me if I were to steal billions of dollars from my country.
Portugal's reporting it atm, even had that interview with the prime minister of Iceland on tv in full.
I wish I could commit crimes and say the evidence is protected by privacy.
Some are able to do that already, just in the name of National Security..

Iceland has a president AND a prime minister? :S
It really is incredible how no-one on the TV news are actually talking about this. I'm watching BBC News right now and they're talking about fucking "Fruit Machine Bandits" and Judie Dench.
What the fuck.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were allowing Panorama to have the exclusive within the BBC channels, then after that airs they will be talking about it 24/7
