wrong. a detention is when you're being limited your freedoms i.e. you're not allowed to leave while the officers question you or you're placed in the patrol car for a limited time while the scene is being processed. an arrest is when you're taken down to the station, fingerprinted, id'd, and then placed in a jail awaiting a sentencing or a ticket or a fine.
you can be detained without being arrested.
are you sure? i thought handcuffing was only done when you're arrested, i've been arrested without being handcuffed though
it all depends on the context of the situation.

and in this case they're in the middle of a hotzone and it's better to be safe than sorry.
that cop is a triggerhappy fuckin idiot and there's too many cops like that. this is why people hate cops
you sir have obviously not read the thread and watched the videos we have posted. If you did, you would not to generalize the cops and make your baseless assumptions
YEAH MAN THAT DOG DESERVED TO BE SHOT
JUSTICE
SERVED
GOD BLESS FREEDOM
most dogs would put up a fuss seeing their owner in a distressing situation like this but few dogs would actually viciously attack
regardless they should have given the guy a chance to put the dog away properly or failing that they should have uncuffed him and let him calm the dog down
this was very sad to watch
I don't understand, why do you guys care about dogs so much?
What the fuck kind of stupid question is this.
Um... yeah?
In this video I see one man being attacked by a dog, surrounded by people doing nothing. Correct me if I'm wrong.
It seems that he could have been arrested for disrupting the peace, he was being a general annoyance at an intense scene trying to be a smart ass.
The dog got shot because it most certainly seemed like he was going to bite the officer, in which he would of been put down anyway.
Lesson: Don't be a smart ass when cop's are doing their job else your violent over protective dog will get shot multiple times
What happend to tazers
What happend to tazers
what happened to reading the thread
I'm not surprised peoples reactions in this thread were calling the cops cunts, because they are total and absolute fucking wankers, they had no right to detain that man and should have asked him to put his windows up before anything happened, but no, another case of these absolute fucking retards being allowed guns and getting high and mighty because they have a silver badge, hope someone shoots their fucking dogs too, whilst something totally irrational and irrelevant to what's actually occurring happens.

The effect this has on people? (The man "detained" the day after)

Yeah guys the cop should have just taken his shirt off and wrestled the dog to the ground.
This pissed me off and made me feel more upset than it should have done.
I know the dog went for them, but holy fuck I couldn't watch them shoot it.
Just give some general training around dogs, not only for the dog but you're less likely to put an officer in the situation where he has to shoot one, or get attacked. It's just fucking lazy in my eyes to ignore the dog until it's a problem and then you pretty much have to shoot it because you're acting aggressive towards it's owner.
The default position on dogs shouldn't be "ignore it until it's an issue, then shoot it" that's just bad for everyone involved.
Are they sure it's the guy?
Last time they decided to go internet detectives they got a innocent arab kid killed after the boston bombings.
Even though that guy died weeks before the bombings but ok, let's make baseless assumptions. Seems to be the general trend in this thread.
What a shit day, feel terrible for him.
Cops could have at least allowed him to close his windows or something, could of all been avoided or at least handled in a more humane fashion instead of just executing the dog just there like that. Jesus christ.
Fucking idiot cop.
If you're going to kill the fucking dog, fucking kill it.
Don't just let it die slowly you fucking moron.
How does that have anything to do with this?
I mentioned the police where in the wrong for arresting the guy. But the dog was barking at him, jumped out of the car and then ran over towards them, and then ended up jumping at the police officer. They had no way of knowing if the dog was going to bite the officer or not, it's an animal.
It's not like they yanked the dog who was cowering in the car out and then proceeded to dump an entire mag into it while it was on the sidewalk.
He likely got put in cuffs for distrupting a police investigation then.
How much of an apologist can you possibly be?
I am bothered about the dog, at the end of the video you saw it squirming on its side, still living.
It was ok to shoot it because it was a threat yet just shooting it non lethally, leaving it in pain was just sick and horrible.
I love how people think if the dog bites you once, you're going to die immediately. Cops are definitely in the wrong since none of that should have happened in the first place, regardless of how "aggressive" or not the dog was.

What the guy should have done is instead of stopping there and watching, just drive away and go where he was going to in the first place. Or the pedestrians filming could have helped instead of saying, oh its going to jump or common jump out.

they fatally shot it. It was definitely lethal. These arent cops from GTA who continue to shoot once your dead or incapacitated. They shot until the threat was no more, then stopped.

Yeah so why not end it's suffering by putting it down... He stopped shooting whilst it was still moving and thus, in pain.

Because then people would complain about that, too, and that is definitely illegal to just execute the dog...

Holy shit, life is not a fucking video game where you have hp bars and can just repair any damage with medkits.
Get out of your basement and get some fresh air, jeez.

A LOT of what they did was illegal.
Likewise, you can't shoot something non-lethally with lethal weaponry on purpose. Especially not if said something is currently attacking you, constantly moving around and you yourself are in stress both from a currently ongoing operation AND the immediate threat before you.
Again, life is not a video game. You are not 100% cool and relaxed at all times, and you don't have an integrated targetting system that just allows you to shoot things in any place with pin-point accuracy. That's also why he shot 4 times - to ensure that he actually hit the dog.
Edit: Not even going to make an additional reply to the post below me. 10/10 missed the point completely.

No one is claiming or implying life is a video game, I don't know where you're getting that.
