did you not realize we posted at pretty much the same time
thats not what I said at all
I said you can't be trained to make them every time.
you can be trained to try
or just use one of the manly nonlethal detainment methods cops are trained in
You cannot be "Trained" to shoot in a non fatal place. that's impossible.
When you take out a gun, you better intend to kill whatever you're aiming for. Because that's exactly what a gun is, a tool to kill something. Nothing else. it's very hard to do purposefully non fatal shots, ESPECIALLY when you need to act FAST.
I understand now. Thanks.
Personally, they should have at least tased it. If they absolutely had to shoot it, they need to be trained to shoot it in a non fatal place.
That's not how guns and injuries work. There was no avoiding how they dealt with the dog, however the wrongful arrest was entirely avoidable.

I think if I taught someone to use a gun, they better have the intent to kill, because they're likely going to do just that.
And because of that, they better avoid using a gun whenever possible, unless they intend to destroy whatever they aim at.
yeah, non-fatal shootings do not exist
it's simply never happened
the first rule of handling a gun is to not draw your gun unless you intend to kill. since things like major arteries exist, non-lethal shots practically don't
Is it time to reiterate how cops are taught to shoot:
1. Shoot center-mass. This insures the highest hit %
2. Continue shooting until the threat is stopped.
also the guy wasn't being arrested, he was being detained for questioning. there's a difference.
the first rule of handling a gun is to not draw your gun unless you intend to kill*. since things like major arteries exist, non-lethal shots practically don't
*Unless its bean bag / special rounds.
which is why anecdotal evidence is bad and I haven't used it once in this thread
So what question were we supposed to ask?

I agree, which is why the cop shouldnt have pointed a gun at the dog in the first damn place
also the guy wasn't being arrested, he was being detained for questioning. there's a difference.
There's no practical difference in this case. The two would have looked and behaved identically in the span of the three minutes.
also the guy wasn't being arrested, he was being detained for questioning. there's a difference.
Ah, yeah, thats true
Often when someone is hating on the police for any conceivable reason, it seems like their entire understanding of police procedure comes from a DMX video

So, what if the dog WAS hostile? He should have just let himself get fucked up?
watching dogs die of gunshots wounds i cant do it
dog doesnt know why its suddenly choking on its own blood ;_;

tasers and pepper spray exist
hell, hit it with your baton, better than fucking shooting it
p.s. those of you asking why he didn't just use a taser or pepper spray is because both are "ineffective" in a sense that all it'll do is make the dog more aggressive.

it's totally his fault that his dog got shot, yeah
pretty sure no one is at fault for the dog being shot
I agree, which is why the cop shouldnt have pointed a gun at the dog in the first damn place
If a dog lunges at an officer, then they're well within their rights to stop it with lethal force. The issue here is that it should never have escalated to that point.
tasers and pepper spray exist

1. Taser and pepper spray are stupid against dogs
2. That second part is basically "letting himself get fucked up would have been better than shooting it"
This happens every day in post racial America
1. Taser and pepper spray are stupid against dogs

how have we established that dog would've fucked him up
and also could all those cops really not restrain one dog?
how have we established that dog would've fucked him up

they took away his master and he ran to protect him
how have we established that dog would've fucked him up

have you tried to take down a 100+ lbs rottweiler before?
how have we established that dog would've fucked him up

1. It jumped at him, none of them had any way of knowing its intentions, obviously, but it was definitely looking like it was about to attack.
2. Good luck restraining a dog, considering how big it is, and the fact that its entire attack set is biting, it would've been almost impossible.
You can't be serious

You get into a fist fight with a dog and tell me you didn't get fucked up
Having a short melee weapon isn't going to help much either
you know, lets assume Star Trek is true, and it's hundreds of years in the future with sentient species allied with us
I guarantee that even in that day and age you'll find assholes talking about what "race is the superior human race"
how have we established that dog would've fucked him up

You don't want to be attacked by a dog, that's fun never, unless they're REALLY short

I'm fairly sure that if a dog isn't making any noise, and even takes the time out to sniff/lick the grass after walking up to the cops, it's not being aggressive.
If the dog legitimately lunged at him, I'm fairly sure a hard kick would be enough to scare it off, THEN use something more forceful to retaliate. Of course, this dumbfuck of a cop thinks that because he has a gun, that's his ONLY form of "defence", because he's apparently unable to do anything but shoot.

No matter how many times you post this or say it, there will still be someone who will say that "non lethal leg shots" are possible and the police should only shoot to wound.
No amount of arguing, statistics, or reiterating training protocol will ever fix it. Then again, most of those on FP seem to have more law enforcement training, protocol knowledge, policy experience, and over all law enforcement experience than any and all police officers on the planet.

Aren't all cops issued steel toed shoes?

A kick would've done NOTHING but make it even more upset, and it would've put the officer at a great disadvantage if the dog decided to bite the leg. This shit takes less than a second, this isn't a turn based game, so get your armchair hindsight warrior shit out of here.
