Origin is literally the only software I have that downloads at speeds close to what my ISP advertises
EEEHHHHH. A much more responsive design but a lot of it bugs me. As nice it is, its still absolutely no reason to jump ship. Origin is just a horrible place overall.
There's no need to "jump ship". Just use both at the same time like a reasonable human being would? One thing I have noticed with Origin is most of my library will launch without the client. This is good. However it does mean the game is then using some other DRM, which thankfully isn't likely to be SecureROM any more seeing as MS broke it.

Generally requiring steam to launch, and often with other third party DRM as well.

Most games integrate with SteamWorks now, which is DRM along with the community features. Then a lot of publishers also have some other DRM in there, as if they were expecting to ship physicals or something. Though SteamWorks is super easy to work around going by the number of totally legit I swear man Steam clients out there.
im not sure that i'm a fan of origins new modular design
Origin is literally the only software I have that downloads at speeds close to what my ISP advertises
Actually it's not quite right. Origin displays a different (higher) download speed as it downloads the full package. Steam downloads the same content but packed and thus just displays a slower speed. Both download speeds are the same.
I find them very restrictive. Not a lot of pictures work well with the format
Don't worry, it'll get better in the future when we have octagonal avatars. [editline]15th September 2016[/editline] :stop:
Which means they're publisher specific.
No.
