I've no problem with non-steam distributors. After all, I'm a frequent patron of GOG.com. But the problem with origin is thus: do you REALLY want to trust EA with your games? EA is one of those publishers famous for unscrupulous practice and stifling creativity.
what does this post even mean what does stifling creativity and "unscrupulous practice" have to do with buying BF3 on Origin.
Well, this was expected.
incoming valve fanboy shitstorm [sp]steam does the same thing[/sp]
The difference is that we all have steam and we don't want to get a whole knew download service for one game. I'm still getting the game but this is an annoying way of them trying to push origins down are throat. [editline]11th August 2011[/editline]
hello i'm a steam fanboy and i want the pc to become like a console where there's only one way to get games
Not wanting to download EAs origins doesn't make me a steam fanboy. Really EAs a pretty hated company and people are going to be angry if they have to support there download service.
incoming valve fanboy shitstorm [sp]steam does the same thing[/sp]
the difference is I already have steam (and a ton of other digital distribution clients) and I don't want more
what does this post even mean what does stifling creativity and "unscrupulous practice" have to do with buying BF3 on Origin.
It means they have to support the download service of a company they don't like.
You can just add the game's .exe and put the game on your gamelist, so that you can enable the Steam overlay while playing any game. Friends, browser, ETC
tried that with the BF3 Alpha It told origin to launch BF3 and the steam overlay wouldn't load
Yeah, and then Origin servers are down for a week because EA "didn't expect the load of new players". Predicting it now.
Yegh. The one reason I use Steam is because I trust Valve. I won't be so keen to hop onto Origin.
well im disapointed. idk if ill even consider buying this right away. but if they did this to ME3 ill be PISSED
Yes. If there is nowhere else to buy games, then what do they care if you're satisfied.
Uh, not pissing off your customers to the point where they won't buy them anyways? Logic?
Why are they forcing us to use shit we don't want to use?
I'm not using Origin not because I love valve, but because I hate EA. How can you guys even respect them? Seriously.
I'm okay with this.
well im disapointed. idk if ill even consider buying this right away. but if they did this to ME3 ill be PISSED
Oh boo hoo. You have to have a program running while you're playing a game. It's the end of the world. How did you feel when Valve first announced Steam and how that needed to be running to play HL2? Bet you didn't like that at all.
I don't think a simple distribution client should hold someone back from getting a really great game.
The only bad part is that like BF3, other Origin games probably won't be on Steam.
I just would like to keep all my games on one platform, Steam. I would just like the ability to launch the game via Steam without having to boot origin (what I wanted retail to be like).
Origin isn't really bad at all. I just prefer not to use it.
Why are they forcing us to use shit we don't want to use?
They're hoping it's shit you'll end up wanting to use :v:.
I can imagine this being like windows live, god that was such a bitch to use.
Still getting it.
From my past experiences with EADM, once you install DLC, the game stops working in the DM client, and you can just create a shortcut on your desktop to bypass it. Didn't try with Origin. Chose to re-buy my single EADM game again on Steam.
Part of the reason Steam is so popular is their remarkable deals and customer service, do you really think they would screw that up just to make a quick buck?
What happens when Valve loses its awesome large leader? [editline]11th August 2011[/editline]
I'm okay with this.
Same here, I'm not going to bitch and moan about something that is really really really insignificant.
Guys new solution Don't buy BF3. I'm not saying boycott it but you have such a problem with it don't buy it.
Steam is popular because it's good, they deserve to have a large share of the digital distribution market. EA on the other hand is known for their shady business practices and fine print EULAs. Remember EA saying that games won't require you to start Origin to play them? Now they're turning around and stabbing us in the back. Not needing to start Origin implies that retail wouldn't need to start it either, way to use non-misleading wording EA. I'm not a fan of Origin, but like others I want all of my games on the same platform and I just don't trust EA with my money like this. I will end up buying it because it's such a good game, and I understand that I should be voting with my wallet, but I won't let a silly digital distribution service get in the way of BF3. Valve does the same thing that EA does, just their service isn't just for proprietary games and they've garnered more trust over the years. Steam has also been around for much longer giving it a larger userbase. I have bought so many games on Steam that switching to something else or using it in conjunction would be ludicrous. Have your money EA, but that doesn't mean I like you.
I think I will get Modern Warfare 3 first then. Im going to get both games, I just dont want to use origin, it will be games for windows live all over again.

Wait, has Steam been going off and on for different people, cause its been happening to me.
I'm not using Origin not because I love valve, but because I hate EA. How can you guys even respect them? Seriously.
I don't respect EA, I just want to play BF3 and not buying the game just because I have to use a certain program to download updates is retarded.
This matters less than the lack of mod tools I'm no longer paying full price for games that I'll need to spend MORE money on in two months to experience new content User created content is a staple of PC gaming and has even spread to console gaming with LittleBigPlanet and Infamous. It's not an optional bonus, especially on this platform.
