So does this mean Mass Effect 3 and the rest of EA's upcoming games will be Origin-exclusives?
So does this mean Mass Effect 3 and the rest of EA's upcoming games will be Origin-exclusives?
It's looking like it. Ugh.
So does this mean Mass Effect 3 and the rest of EA's upcoming games will be Origin-exclusives?
I honestly hope it does, just to spite all you whiners. Anyways, exclusive is a dumb word for this. You can buy it elsewhere, jeez
It's the same damn game whatever distributor you use and you wouldn't even notice Origin except when there was an update or something. The fanboyism with the people on here is as ridiculous as the Youtube community.
It isn't valve fanboysim. Its EA trying to get people onto there service by not letting you get it from other places. Theres a reason pc gamers don't like EA. EA is bad news for pc gaming and thats why we are angry.
I don't see why people are so accepting to a company notorious for being backstabbers purely because some generic looking tacticool shooter is on it.
Its more of the fact that EA is forcing us to support origins. Really It will be a sad day for pc gaming if EA is the leader of it.
Again, when Steam first started the same arguments were made. For fuck's sake when Civ V was going to be steam only, the CivFanatics site had tons of thread in the Civ V thread about people bitching about steam, MAKING THE SAME EXACT arguments. You guys are a fucking broken record player of old points that haven't even happened yet. [editline]12th August 2011[/editline]
It isn't valve fanboysim.
:suicide: EA's boat is going down like the titanic.
No, it's not. Personally I'm fine with this, it doesn't really matter in any case. That does NOT mean they're out to destroy PC gaming, intentionally or not.

Not to mention there is a difference between EA and steam. Steam has always supported pc gaming and gaming in general while EA has always done the opposite. Basically they are trying to use battlefield to make origins popular instead of having a better service then steam. Not to mention they are trying to get pc games to cost 60$ instead of 50$. If they are the only place to get the game there would be nothing stopping them from doing that. I can go on. All you have to do is look at EAs history to see why giving pc gaming to EA is bad.

Also, Is there another big online store I can purchase the Orange Box, L4D and L4D2, Half Life, Counter Strike, Portal 2, and every other Valve game from? And if you were there when steam first started, those who bought Half Life 2 had to way several days TO ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME.
How can they better their service?
How can they have a better service? Obviously by making a better service. If I knew exactly how then I would make my own download service and beat steam. Cheaper prices and community management is one way. [editline]12th August 2011[/editline]
Also, Is there another big online store I can purchase the Orange Box, L4D and L4D2, Half Life, Counter Strike, Portal 2, and every other Valve game from?
Again this isn't doesn't justify EAs use for it. Not to mention the difference between steam and origin is that valve needs steam to update there games right on time, manage game accounts and track items. This isn't the case for origins.
What if somebody who had Origin and didn't want Steam was bitching about not wanting to have to install Steam because he wanted Half-Life?
You can just add the game's .exe and put the game on your gamelist, so that you can enable the Steam overlay while playing any game. Friends, browser, ETC
that doesn't give me access to it on steams reliable download servers. EA's servers suck shit.
incoming valve fanboy shitstorm [sp]steam does the same thing[/sp]
I dislike both.
that doesn't give me access to it on steams reliable download servers. EA's servers suck shit.
That is if battlefield 3 allows you to use steam while playing. I hope it does (unlike bf2).
I don't mind Origin as long as they don't delete my account
Guys! I have a solution, buy the game and torrent a cracked version. Sorted. [editline]12th August 2011[/editline] That's been the defacto way of clearing this kind of bullshit out of games for years anyway.
I don't get the hate against Origin, It's low resource and not intrusive, the only problem is the whole 2 years account thing.
About every game that gets released nowadays needs some program installed for it to work. When I buy a game, I should be free to play the game without having to install anything else, installing that kind of programs should be optional. I don't get why Origin needs to be active while playing BF3: it's a STORE. Previous EA games worked just fine without it, why would it be necessary to run now? I'm pretty sure people who pirate BF3 will even get to play the game without Origin, so they actually have to go through less of a hassle than people who buy the game.
Guys! I have a solution, buy the game and torrent a cracked version. Sorted.
EA will totally allow this. :)
I don't get why Origin needs to be active while playing BF3
Because they want you to buy things from that non optional store they got with it.

[editline]12th August 2011[/editline] That's been the defacto way of clearing this kind of bullshit out of games for years anyway.
It doesn't work like that if you are trying to play online.
Because they want you to buy things from that non optional store they got with it.
Yeah, but you're not going to buy something while playing BF3, right? I could understand why they would require Origin to stay installed on the PC, but there's no reason to let it run while playing BF3.
Welp. There goes a sale.
Your own loss. And then you'll cry how you can't enjoy the brilliant Battlefield 3 over a small fuss.

Really, it's not that much of a hassle to begin with. Log in to Origin, activate CD-Kay, and done, you have the game on there. it's the EXACT SAME as with Steam, come on. You're forgetting that
All Half-Life 2 players on PC are required to have Steam installed and a valid account in order to play.
AKA I could start bitching that "What the fuck I want to play HL2 but I have to install this program first.
Because they want you to buy things from that non optional store they got with it.
Non-optional? What do you mean.
AKA I could start bitching that "What the fuck I want to play HL2 but I have to install this program first. Steam is needed to update there games and keep track of users and items. EA doesn't need this and if they did they could have used steam. Not to mention that at the time steam was the first so its not like anyone had to make an account event for another download service they only needed one which wasn't that bad. Basically this means people who use other download services have to download an unneeded extra or people who haven't needed or used download services have to now for no good reason. [editline]12th August 2011[/editline]
Non-optional? What do you mean.
You need to get origins which includes its store and is the main reason EA is promoting origins.

Also "The Origin client is self-updating software that allows users to download games, expansion packs, content booster packs and patches from Electronic Arts." AKA Origin patches your games too. Origin is quite literally the same as Steam, but with possibly less community interaction.

The reason why they don't want you using steam without buying anything is probably because they don't want to waste there resources on someone if don't buy games since it would also be pretty useless to them as well.

I like Steam because I have all my games in one place and I can see what my friends are doing, but IMO you should only install it because you like the service, not because you like some game.
