Having a replacement Note 7 in hand, the tech that I liked the most that you can't get on any new new phones is the Samsung Pay MST stuff. Plus, I like the large screen. I don't want to have to go back to a Note 5 or S7.
Note 5 is actually slightly larger than the 7
Replace defective removable battery with new, non-defective one? Problem solved???
If Samsung gave me a replacement battery and told me "ok THESE are good" and then it explodes one day, the fact that I can replace the battery myself doesn't really have much to do with the exploding part.
All it really means is that I don't have to send my whole phone in if I'm aware there is a recall. It doesn't do much when the replacements start exploding or there isn't a recall on a defective product yet.
What a tragic tale and with this it might be a good idea to end the brand that is Samsung Note, the bad PR for the next Note will probably continue and lead to even worse sales. Its' either time to rebrand or delete said brand from existence for a little while before reintroducing it as something else.
It's pretty sad for Samsung to've entered this mess again and again, hopefully they can still recover.
why would they end the note line? the bad PR is on the note 7, not the entire lineup
why would they end the note line? the bad PR is on the note 7, not the entire lineup
because when people hear Note they now think "oh those phones that explode?"
name has too much bad blood, best to give it a new name/look and start from zero

Because the bad PR is on "that new Samsung Note"
Can't wait until they move back to the proposed Galaxy S7+ moniker.

I haven't heard any person in my day to day actually believe its all the note phones.

I guarantee you that many people upon hearing that a Note 8 is launched will go "Didn't the last one blow up?"
It's tarnished the line's name. This happens with everything, do you think the same thing wouldn't happen if Ford brought back the Pinto?

this actually damages the entire android ecosystem
your normal phone buyer doesnt know the difference between android and samsung

Most people I've heard/seen talk about it don't even know the model name, they just say galaxy s something because that's what Samsung is to them
on the topic of the V20 as an alternative - go for it
I had a V10 and it was a pretty great phone. Most of the issues with the LG G3 have long been fixed, and the bootloop issue was very rare, especially on the V10. I'm sure it's fixed in the V20.
I wish the V20 had AMOLED. It would make it my next purchase 100%

But I've gone from AMOLED to IPS to AMOLED to IPS to AMOLED and I just can't go back to that again.
Wow, I really did not expect a complete recall to happen. I imagine Samsung was starting to get a lot of lawsuits headed their way. Shit has to get pretty bad for a total recall.
I wonder if now people will stop arguing that vaping/e-cigarettes are dangerous because a handful of people's devices have had the battery vent.

I don't know anyone with an e-cigarette who has had it burst into flames. More likely it's people buying cheap-ass knock-off e-cigarettes online, like what everyone was doing with those handleless segways, that also set on fire
