If I can't get porn there that will severely harm my chances of visiting Iceland this summer.
Iceland banned strip clubs in 2010 and was described as "world's most feminist country" by the guardian. This is what happens when the ridiculous sexist rhetoric of radical feminists isn't countered. http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/mar/25/iceland-most-feminist-country
Yeah those damned radical feminists pushing their fringe agenda with their sexist rhetoric. Oh wait.
A 2007 poll found that 82% of women and 57% of men support the criminalisation of paying for sex – either in brothels or lapdance clubs – and fewer than 10% of Icelanders were opposed
Maybe people in Iceland believe a society can function without strip clubs.
I think she's trying to say that all porn is horrible and violent (which it is... only in her opinion), and that children mimic everything they see (you know, the violent games cause violent kids argument?).
Violence in video games is very different from the way kids can learn from porn. Without proper sex education, many kids will learn what sex is from an industry that continually rapes and exploits injures women. It creates false expectations of what sex is. I'll have to find it for this thread at some point, but there were a series of quotes by people in the industry discussing the regular drugging and raping of actresses, the not paid for anal reconstruction surgeries many of them need, etc. porn is not intrinsically bad, but most porn is made in a way that corrupts our vision of what sex should be: not violence against women.
IMO this isn't a very good idea. While I agree the porn industry needs some reforms I think if anything a ban will be pretty detrimental. It'll drive porn underground which will drive up crime. Yes porn can be very sexist (seeing as its like the only place we still catorgarize women by their physical features) but banning it is not the answer.
Article is not about feminists, does not touch down on uniquely feminist topics and does not mention feminism. The word misogyny was used once in the article Porn banning is not a topic unique to feminists, it's a broader puritanism subject. Also, OP is delusionally anti-feminist Moving on
least they'll still have facebook.
...Guðrún Jónsdóttir, a spokeswoman for Stigamot, a centre that helps victims of sexual violence, said: "It would make my life so much easier not to fight porn but I have to. Why should we allow unfettered misogyny, images of rape? The argument is that we need to ban porn because it hurts our children, and that is true, but it also needs to be stopped because it is hate speech and violence against women and affects people's relationships."...
Where does homemade amateur videos and gay porn fit in this?
We *do* call them out on their BS. It's basically the giant difference between Radical Feminism and Liberal Feminism, but people like to lump everyone together into one big group.
The funny thing is that Radical Feminists are not even that different from mainstream ones. They still believe in equality and support the same ideals. The differences are that radical Feminists view sexism more of an institutional and big picture thing, and not as a series of discriminations. They note various ways in which liberal feminism has been hijacked by fake feminists and the patriarchy to solve specific feminist issues by exploiting gender roles and women's sexuality. They condemn the way acceptance of male feminists has caused men to take over what was supposed to be a women's movement. They decry the way liberal feminists ignore lower class women and women of color. They hate the way specific porn stars and call girls are used to promote sex positivity when most sex workers and porn stars are in those jobs because they are forced to. Radical Feminism tries to examine and change everything about our patriarchal society, instead of looking only at the surface.
Also I think this article more than anything argues that porn jas a negative affect on children which is true to an extent. Not simply because they're witnessing a sexual act but because it paints a poor image of what sexuality is like.
no porn, what's the point??
Someone doesn't get humour. I just wish that the tour inside the volcano you can do there wasn't so expensive.
Where does homemade amateur videos and gay porn fit in this?
It does not fit into this exactly, but radical feminists would note that you do not know if both parties, or whoever was in the video, consented to it's posting. In more extreme and rare cases, sometimes one can't even tell of the sex is consensual, due to the nature of the video. Even these restrictions do not limit all porn though. I know a girl who runs her own private paysite, and she is not being oppressed.
As an Icelander, I'm all for this. I know plenty of complete idiots here who I'm sure will treat women like pornstars. They have recently started teaching equality studies in certain colleges here, and in time, people will think how stupid we were for treating women as the lesser sex. Also, there's no school called "Borgarn" here in Iceland. They probably meant Borgarholtsskóli.

If we're gonna go witchhunting for media that sends out inappropriate and sexists portrayal of sexuality, hollywood does one hell of a job of showcasing men as dumb sex crazed nerds and jocks, of women as shallow bimbos, and of homosexuals as huge flaming glittery faggots. Not to mention telling us how only losers are virgins and how you need to be popular to have sex, and how nobody likes chicks who aren't skinny as twigs.
new fp drinking game. take a shot every time someone uses the phrase "radical feminism" in a disparaging manner (liver dialysis machine required)

Doesn't mean porn doesn't present sexual scenarios in an even more ludicrous way.
Yeah this is true too. Doesn't mean porn doesn't present sexual scenarios in an even more ludicrous way.
Yeah, but one hell of a lot more people are regularly exposed to this kind of media and accept it as the truth of how the world works.
Yeah, but one hell of a lot more people are regularly exposed to this kind of media and accept it as the truth of how the world works.
Yeah I'm agreeing with you, obviously most forms of media need a fix up (especially their portrayal of gender roles). Obviously both need to be adressed.
What the fuck does this even mean?
It means bad parents.
it's just a rangergxi thread
this is legitimately sad
Banning porn is outright extremist though.
Extremist and impossible to enforce on top of that. If people choose to fuck on camera, and someone chooses to watch it, who is being harmed, and who is some random fucking person to say that they can't make that decision for themselves?
So does basically every comedy movie ever. Not to mention telling us how only losers are virgins and how you need to be popular to have sex, and how nobody likes chicks who aren't skinny as twigs.
Hollywood is probably the biggest obstacle to an egalitarian society. The fact there are barely any women characters and the fact that every guy at the end of every movie is promised a girl both contribute to a sense of entitlement many guys have towards women. It gets worse when you see the way Hollywood whitewashes the fuck out of everything.
If this ever goes through, I'd be very interested to see how they define porn. I mean, plenty of movies have sex scenes in them, does that make it porn? They'd have to either have extremely clear and impossible to misunderstand definition of porn that will leave a loophole or two or they actually have to view each piece of content to label them as porn or not-porn.
What the fuck does this even mean?
It means that people attempt to emulate porn in their sex, when sex in porn is not actually all that satisfying or enjoyable for couples, as porn is about gratuitous emphasis on sexuality, rather than intimacy, so using it as a manual of "How-to Sex" is a surefire way for at least one partner to not enjoy sex and cause self-esteem issues.
I don't know where this prejudice against porn that almost all women in the porn industry are victims that are forced to fuck on camera comes from.
Where does homemade amateur videos and gay porn fit in this?
Well, yes, Amateur porn is the exception to the rule, but it's not really what people call to mind when they think "Pornography", same with Gay Porn.
new fp drinking game. take a shot every time someone uses the phrase "radical feminism" in a disparaging manner (liver dialysis machine required)
or when someone is called a misogynist
Yeah this is true too. Doesn't mean porn doesn't present sexual scenarios in an even more ludicrous way.
I believe the porn industry made the money shot the most popular sex act for males in one survey. It's crazy how one industry can practically invent that and make it so popular. It is also really disturbing, considering the subconscious motivation behind comeshots [editline]3rd June 2013[/editline]
I don't know where this prejudice against porn that almost all women in the porn industry are victims that are forced to fuck on camera comes from.
It is not a prejudice, it happens a lot. It certainly is not the norm, I hope.
