The only part of that I actually though was really cool was the X-Wings running along the water.... Like 'Yeah, we're all tactical and shit'.
To be fair, a lot of EU content had hilt guards like that.
One of the new novels coming out next year is titled Fall of the Empire/ Rise of the Rebellion so yeah the Empire in the new movies is most certainly not the powerful Empire in the OT.
At around 1:23, you can hear a "normal" Saber ignition sound.
Also, dat bass when the main theme plays.
All the sound effects seem to be accurate, X-Wings sound like X-Wings, the Falcon sounded like the Falcon etc.
wow this art direction is metal
You guys are taking this crossbar lightsaber thing over the top. Get over it it's a lightsaber?

considering how much of a HUGE mistake the prequels were the crossbar on the light saber is virtually pointless to denote

I mean it's an iconic part of a movie lots of people hold dearly and remember fondly but ok yeah.

Yeah, I noticed this as well. There was way too much - didn't ruin the theme, but it definitely didn't add to it.
Overall, it looks pretty cool. I'm cautiously optimistic.
also guise we don't know if EVERY SINGLE LIGHTSABER IN THE ENTIRE MOVIE will look like that. That red dude in that other movie was the only guy with a double sided saber, and the robot organ guy had like 5 fucking sabers. The movie can deviate, it doesn't mean everything has changed.
p. sure it was announced months ago they would be dropping Episode # from the title.
That's stupid

You do realize not everyone is gonna have that same exact style of lightsaber right?
The Jedi have always been the lamest part of the Star Wars universe, but people just can't get over guys on wires jumping around swinging glowing dicks around. I prefer them in the original trilogy where they were more monks instead of just being anime characters.
The crossguard lightsaber looks kinda stupid but to be fair, lightsabers DO need crossguards of some sort. Jedis would (and obviously do!) lose hands left and right. Hands are an easy target even with guards of some sort.
They should give them crossguards made of whatever vibroblades are made of.

Episode VII will still be featured in the opening crawl - apparently.
Felt a bit too.... "smooth"(?) for me? Dunno, something felt a little off. I'm definitely interested and can't wait for it to come out but something felt off compared to the other movies.
I liked it. Didn't tell you too much, but gave enough to taste. It doesn't look like a classic Star Wars movie, but given how JJ handled the Star Trek movies, I think it's in safe hands.

Vibroblades aren't a thing any more are they? I thought that was an EU idea, and that in the movies, nothing short of a forcefield could stop a lightsaber.
Love it, especially the quick shot at 0:38 of the girl on the speeder thing. It looks so clunky but also feels like it's got its own personality, very organic. Bringing practical effects and prop design back to the forefront already is a huge blessing for this movie.
Cross guard sabers aren't really new to the lore.

While a bit different to the ones we have seen before, having multiple beams is clearly not a problem with the lore before this.
Crossbar isn't pointless, what
look at how many people lost their hands fucking with lightsabers in star wars

I think they were in Clone Wars, so therefore canon.

what I meant (Idk I probably worded it like shit)
people complaining about how "Stupid" the cross guard looks should realize that the prequals were really bad, and that even minor things like the cross guard are pointless to complain about when you look at all the mistakes the prequels made
to put it short: This is going to be WAY better than the last three movies that were made, regardless of how "Impractical" the design is at some points.
personally I think the crossguard looks hella cool
I mean shit if I had a light saber I'd made the handle look like an actual sword (metal cross guards)

He's not saying the cross guards are pointless, he's saying it's pointless to nitpick them in comparison to how bad the prequels were.

Yeah I realized what your post meant. I just took away the quote, there's others in this thread saying that the design is impractical.
A metal cross guard wouldn't really stand up to a lightsaber
I wouldn't say it's impractical but the smaller "blades" look out of place compared to the larger "blade"
I think it looks great so far.
The Blaster appears to be the same basic design

that trailer looks amazing, people stuck in nostalgia traps can stay there.
