The crossguard lightsaber looks kinda stupid but to be fair, lightsabers DO need crossguards of some sort. Jedis would (and obviously do!) lose hands left and right. Hands are an easy target even with guards of some sort. They should give them crossguards made of whatever vibroblades are made of.
Yeah, crossguards are a good idea but making them out of a beam is kinda pointless. Most lightsaber resistant material is incredibly rare or dangerous to mine, but I'm sure a relatively small amount would be obtainable for most sith (or dark jedi) and that's all you need for crossguards. Have beskar or phrik crossguards, or I think KotOR did it as a cortosis mesh in vibroblades? Some of the EU had cortosis as shorting out lightsabers entirely, which would be interesting, though it just stopping it would be enough to be cool.
Most recent fan theory on the crossguard is that it's an exhaust port. This Sith dude probably doesn't know how to make a saber that well, so he ended up with one that was super OP and needed an out for all the excess energy. End result is a saber that looks fucking awesome.
I wasn't impressed, but I wasn't disappointed either.

People complain they want more lore thrown in, so they do with the crossguard saber.......and people still complain.......personally i loved that it's an unstable crossguard saber i mean if its rare and ancient weaponry maybe the enemy is an ancient one? might explain the whole "awakening" part.
If yall complaining about the cross guards saying they are impractical what do you think about AT-ATs from the OT, they look clumsy and are incredably slow. If it looks stupid fine thats opinoins but dont hate something because its impractical when the OT did it too
At least the crossguard saber is practical and probably serves a purpose unlike some of the other editions of saber in star wars.
Is that Revan? Wouldn't that be like putting Julius Caesar in Saving Private Ryan or something? That makes no sens- ah whatever, just about anything will be a masterpiece next to the prequels. Write a competent script, make it look good and keep it under 2 hours. That's literally it, Disney.
Is that Revan?
why would it be
I really hope they leave the impending invasion bit from outside the galaxy. Unfortunately I think that's extended universe so the Empire are back to cartoon villains.
you guys are forgetting that his is a whole new look at star wars. I'm sure it wont be grimdark the whole way through but it will be an action movie- like it always was (until lucas threw in fucking love stories)
I thought it was great. It revealed almost nothing, other than that we will see: Tatooine The Millenium Falcon A new badass villain Black stormtroopers And some other minutiae. It was definitely different - following the falcon in the one scene seemed quite acrobatic compared to the OT and maybe a bit unfeasible, but it was still quite nice. Even if it's shitty, I know I'll still giggle the whole time because I'm an obsessed fanboy.

i clicked and came, does that count
I thought that trailer looked neat as fuck. Tri-saber is a bit weird but not childhood ruining. I'm hoping they don't make it super-serious and gritty like they did the new trilogy
oh man that was nice, can't wait to see more.
I can't wait until they come out with soccer ball astromech droid toys.

Cross saber looks fucking cool. And if theory that they are exhaust ports is correct will only make it more awesome.
I liked how it looked and felt, although it's still only a teaser. I hold the original series very fondly in my heart but I won't criticize the new movies. The crossguard was a bit weird, it had a nice visual look but at the same time it seems totally impractical and unnecessary.

Same hilt+beam design gets boring fast.

I was thinking it'd actually produce even more vapor than it was maneuvering like that because it's such a wide flat disc shape, but I'm guessing there's not a lot of moisture to condense in the atmosphere of <unnamed desert planet>.
Anything for custom lightsabers. Same hilt+beam design gets boring fast.
That is true, some variety and customized lightsabers gives a nice touch to each character. But you can't do much with only one small hilt and a blade that cuts through almost everything on touch.
-Wtf was with the CGI on that saber blade looked wayyy too different? I do not like where this is going
I prefer to think that it's in bad disrepair. It's been 30 years since the events of Episode 6, it's probably hard to find spare parts and trained techs for those things.
That is true, some variety and customized lightsabers gives a nice touch to each character. I wonder that if the original trilogy came out today, there would be endless discussion about the impracticality of the TIE fighter design limiting a pilot's peripheral vision, or why the AT-ATs don't have wheels or snow treading tracks instead of clumsy legs that leave them vulnerable to tripping.
There's a lot you can do but diehard nostalgia junkies will scream their guts out in that case.
This is a kind of movie that will get for eternity just for existing and being new.
-Wtf was with the CGI on that saber blade looked wayyy too different? I do not like where this is going
Damn right it looked different. It looks infinitely better. All light sabers ought to look like that, now that they can. Does Ralph McQuarrie's early concepts for the weapon justice, in that he depicted a much less stable beam.
